What the best part about your role at HS? - "I love to help the broker and end client find a positive solution and the best outcome. As well as the support that I get from High Street and learning something new everyday." What does a typical day look like? - "We get notif...ied of an urgent claim which we need to have a loss adjuster on site the same day due to the type and extent of the loss and damage. Other times its much more straightforward. It is so easy now for our brokers as all our forms are online, you can go on and grab the one they need and send it back to us. We are in an exciting stage, making steps to account for time frames between receipt and delivery. High Street are proud supporters of their worthy causes, in particular Hummingbird House and The Brisbane Relief Hub. Hummingbird House is Queenslands only childrens hospice, and one of only three childrens hospices in Australia. They provide a warm and welcoming medically supported home away from home for these families, which can... encompass short break stays, family support services, creative therapies, and when the time comes - end of life and after death care. Hummingbird House is a place where kids can be kids, families can reconnect, and precious memories can be created. The Brisbane Relief Hub supports those in the community who are in financial stress, lacking basic necessities, homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. 03.01.2022 We sat down with High Streets CTO Andrew Martin, all-round computer guru and rubiks cube genius to find out his thoughts on the future of IT in the insurance industry and what High Street is doing to stay ahead of it all. Q: How long have you been with HSUA and in IT in general? A: After moving to Australia from England, I became a bespoke web software developer for 5 years, where I learned the art of rapidly building solutions in a high pressure environment - an invaluabl...e weapon in the insurance IT industry. I started at HSUA in November 2016, I can safely say it is one of the most demanding, frenetic but ultimately rewarding industries I have worked in. Q: How do you see tech influencing the future of the insurance industry? A: Its inevitable that companies that avoid the shift towards a technology centred business model will ultimately fall behind in any industry. There are so many levels to the insurance industry that the overall adoption relies on everyone from brokers to our London underwriters being on board. In the near future, more sophisticated data modelling, data integration and broader information mining will make it easier to gauge a risk specific to the client immediately. Realtime connections to centralized data warehouses will mean increased claims for analysis specific occupations, excess adjustments and global risk will all factor into a tailored quote on the fly. The best possible cover can be obtained at the best price while protecting the underwriters covering the risk. The increasing reliance on technology doesnt come without additional risk however. We are now not just relying on our underwriters to gauge risk and understand their products, but also make sure our software reflects this and imposes the same constraints and safety that a manual procedure would have done. As we move further towards improved automation for our brokers to get quotes as efficiently as possible, the integrity of insurance software is more important now than ever before.
