24.01.2022 Excuse the French

23.01.2022 How not to park...

23.01.2022 We need to change this system, too much focus on passing a test and too little time spent learning how to drive.

23.01.2022 It's pretty weather out there in many parts of the state.... So motorists please slow down, pop your headlights on, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you, and drive to conditions. Stay safe everyone!

22.01.2022 WARNING...This is extremely hard to watch but it's 4 minutes which could effectively save lives. Please take the time to 'share' it if you can. This video shows... the aftermath of a fatal crash that happened on the A34 back in August 2016 which tragically killed Tracy Houghton, 45, from Dunstable, her two sons, Ethan, 13, and Joshua, 11, and her partner's daughter Aimee Goldsmith, 11. You may have seen the dash-cam footage from the lorry in question but this video shows the moment of impact and the traumatic aftershock. A truly horrendous example of how easily so many lives can be completely devastated in a split-second. Graphic proof that 'driver distraction' kills! I'm sure anyone watching this will not fail to share in this family's sense of loss & grief. The next time you even think about glancing at your phone or i-pod whilst you're driving remember this and simply think again! Our thoughts are with the family who I consider incredibly brave in openly sharing their painful experience. In memory of Tracy, Ethan, Joshua and Aimee. #ItsNotWorthTheRisk http://www.getreading.co.uk//drivers-using-mobile-phones-w See more

22.01.2022 Learning the hard way....

21.01.2022 Eeeeeeee.......

21.01.2022 It's National Road Safety Week and we're highlighting the top misunderstood road rules - today it's yellow lights. A yellow (amber) traffic light or arrow mean...s stop. It doesn't mean speed up to try and get through the intersection . Penalties for running a yellow light are the same as for running a red light. A driver approaching traffic lights showing a yellow traffic light must stop if the driver can stop safely before reaching the stop line or traffic lights. For more info, check out: https://www.rsac.tas.gov.au/top-5-misunderstood-road-rules1/ #RSW2019

19.01.2022 New bicycle passing distance laws come into force today following a successful trial. New passing laws mean motorists must be at least 1m from a cyclist when pa...ssing on roads up to 60kmh, and 1.5m on roads over 60kmh. Penalties of up to $159 apply and will be enforced by Tasmania Police. But its important to recognise that cyclists must also obey all road rules to ensure their own safety. This includes stopping at stop signs and traffic lights, riding on the left side of the road and giving way to pedestrians on crossings and at intersections. To smooth the flow of on-road traffic, improve the safe flow of cycle traffic on footpaths and reduce confusion at intersections cyclists are now allowed to ride across pedestrian and childrens crossings. When cyclists ride across pedestrian crossings they must always proceed slowly and safely, give way to pedestrians on the crossing and keep to the left of oncoming pedestrians or cyclists. 10.01.2022 The penalty for speeding can be as much as $900, 6 demerit points and 4 months disqualification but the real penalty could be a life. Excessive speed is still... the single largest contributor to fatal and serious injury crashes. Excessive speed for the conditions was a factor in 25% of fatal and serious injury crashes over the past 5 years. On rural roads, driving in excess of the 100km/h limit can increase fatal crashes by 46%. Deaths on our roads are not inevitable there is a cause for every crash and its every drivers responsibility to drive to the conditions. https://youtu.be/p49snWzfaqA #operationcrossroads #wecouldbeanywhere #drivesafe

10.01.2022 At 1.45 pm on Sunday 7 January 2018, Police were conducting static speed checks in William Street, Westbury. At this time police stopped a silver BMW sedan that... had been detected travelling at 97kph in the 50 kph zone as it passed over the railway crossing in William Street. The driver of the vehicle was a 20 year old man from Westbury who had held his Provisional Drivers Licence for less than four weeks. The four passengers in the vehicle were aged between 13 years and 15 years. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with speeding and operate vehicle in public place in an unnecessary execution of speed or acceleration. The driver was bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on 14 February 2018 and the vehicle has been clamped for a period of 28 days. The very high speed, combined with the inexperience of the driver and the fact that all the passengers were teenagers is of great concern to Tasmania Police. Tasmania Police want to remind the community that the current Weve Been Everywhere road safety campaign aims to encourage safe road use by promoting the high possibility of being caught if driving unsafely and the fact that Road Safety is Everyones Responsibility. If anyone saw the vehicle driving at speed or driving in an erratic manner in the Westbury area at the time, they are asked to contact the Northern Road and Public Order Services at Launceston Police Station on 6777 3925. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au
