25.01.2022 Great to get some rain. Hopefully more is coming.

25.01.2022 I need labels like these in some areas of our garden! I saw this on another site - so I cant take credit for it, but I thought other gardeners could relate to it as well!

25.01.2022 We had a great time yesterday hosting the Redlands Organic Growers Inc (ROGI) on the tiny farm. It was good to be able to get answers and ideas from wise and experienced gardeners.

25.01.2022 Some more photos from our street garden planting day. Wouldnt it be wonderful if people all around the world grew gardens in their street for the neighbours?! This is our dream. From little things, big things grow - Paul Kelly.

24.01.2022 Today we finished making the Elderberry Syrup. It is apparently good for colds and flu as a medicine, but I think it will be equally as good as a sneaky tipple around the fire!!

23.01.2022 Bath time and breakfast time in the chicken run.

23.01.2022 We have cabbage and lettuce seedlings to give away. They are on the street library. Help yourself.

23.01.2022 A funny memory of the day Meg ate some books out of the street library!

23.01.2022 This is a gorgeous little video. We don’t have Ground Hogs here in Australia, and as much I think they are so cute, I’m glad I don’t have to contend with them. It’s enough that our chickens get in the patch every now and then and make a mess without having a family of these munching their way through everything!

22.01.2022 Its a cold day today, so the chickens and ducks got some warm rolled oats. Happy girls and boy!

20.01.2022 Watering the vegetable patch in the morning is peaceful and relaxing.

20.01.2022 Hello, from Agnes....

20.01.2022 Good morning from Henry!

18.01.2022 A family in our neighbourhood has had a little puppy join them. He is settling in but they were concerned that his crying would disturb neighbours, so they put a letter in all the letter boxes. Our little Charlie sent a letter back to welcome puppy Magnum to the street!!

17.01.2022 Happy Earth Day - 22 April. Lets make every day Earth Day - care for and love our only home.

16.01.2022 This is an excellent video from Jerry Colby-Williams about growing protein. There are some great plants ideas here.

15.01.2022 Oh, I would love to draw these on the road outside our property with them going to the gate...!!!

14.01.2022 Farm barrow is out on the verge with cabbage. choco, onion, beetroot and eggs for sale.

14.01.2022 Poppy and Tulip think they are lumberjack log rollers!!

14.01.2022 The girls are having a delicious lunch of lettuce. Happy chickens!

12.01.2022 Our mulberry trees are laden with fruit. We cant wait until they are ripe. Jam, wine, desserts and simply eating them by the handfuls..... that should take care of all of them!

12.01.2022 The Higgledy-Piggledy Street Garden is looking good. Bok Choi leaves and salad green leaves are ready for neighbours to pick as they pass. Thank you Michal and Guilia for all your work to make this possible. Enjoy. There are some lettuce seedlings and lemons to give away - they are hanging on the street library.

11.01.2022 One of our ducks was missing tonight when we went to close the chicken run. She was eventually found sitting on a clutch of 16 eggs! We got these ducks a couple of months ago as point of lay birds and were expecting they would start laying soon.....seems they have been holding out on us! These will make VERY nice cakes!

11.01.2022 It is a sad day. Today we lost our beloved Meg. Yesterday Meg ate something that caused an obstruction in her stomach. I am sure it was really tasty at the time. The vets and DRU worked so hard to save her but whatever she ate was just too much for her. When we visited her at the hospital she welcomed us with her gorgeous bleat and she nuzzled into Rell arms. We sat with her as we said our goodbyes. We remembered special moments and showered her with love. Rell and Em fro...m DRU held her gently as Meg took her last breath. Thank you Em, Michal, Giulia and Juan for being with us, We are profoundly grateful for your love. THANKYOU Kate, Em and all the crew at DRU where Meg has been living for the last year. You have loved her and cared for her so amazingly. I am going to miss coming to see her and watching her run towards me bleating with joy. We love you all at DRU. Meg, we miss you. I am going to miss you nuzzling my neck with your velvety lips. You were the perfect embodiment of both goat and human. We hope you find peace and mischief munching on everything the next world offers.

10.01.2022 See this white hen? She is the winner of the Miss mulberry 2020 beauty contest! The evening light makes it look grey, but it is actually a purple hue..... normally she is pure white. Because our mulberry trees are so loaded, the ground around their pen is dotted with fallen fruit. This is our hen that LOVES to dust bath and she is now purple coloured from the mulberries in the dust bath dirt! She is

10.01.2022 The first cabbage harvested from out street garden. We ate it for dinner. So many things out there are ready for eating - we hope that the neighbours enjoy the food.

10.01.2022 The new Bee house is finished. I hope the bees like it! It is a combination of a flow hive and a Langstroth box.

09.01.2022 I am sitting under the mulberry tree with the chickens, eating a slice of mulberry cake and enjoying a cup of tea. The mulberries are fresh from the tree......and the cake is delicious. The chicken who jumped up on my seat and took a few peeks from my cake agrees!

09.01.2022 A carrot harvest is always satisfying.

07.01.2022 Picked a good haul of limes this afternoon from the tree. Now to work out what to do with them! The tree is laden with fruit so we will sell some on the cart outside tomorrow.

06.01.2022 Heres a bit of lighthearted humour! The lockdown due to the Covid19 pandemic has meant that a lot of work has been going on in our garden, but I confess that I have also planted myself in front of the television more than usual over the last few weeks!

06.01.2022 We have a duck (Poppy) who has gone broody and she has colonised the only egg laying box the chickens like to lay in! While some of our hens dont care and actually sit on top of her to lay their eggs, the others have obviously given up and found another place to lay! Yesterday, we found 32 eggs in the television box! They have produced their own reality show of survivor!

06.01.2022 Bees are in trouble in Australia due to bushfires and drought. We are planting flowers for bee food and putting out sugar syrup stations to help. We can all do a little bit to help these magnificent creatures. Our survival depends on them.

05.01.2022 This is still our best scarecrow ever! This was our 2013 model. Proper scary!

04.01.2022 Here are some of the big issues. Take a permaculture design course to start filling in the gaps. #PermacultureGoals

03.01.2022 We have been experimenting with the Kraty method of hydroponics. Very pleased with the results so far. The buckets need to be painted in dark colours to reduce the amount of light, and therefore the growth of algae getting to the water in the buckets. So, I still have a lot of buckets left to paint!

03.01.2022 Since the onset of the covid19 pandemic, our little farm has been building a verge garden as a gift to our street. The soil on our verge was not great so over a few weeks Giulia and Michal have been building it up wth compost and straw - it now looks and smells like beautiful soil. There are more boxes to be built and the other corner street to do, but our plan is to fill it with edibles that neighbours can come and help themselves to. We had a street garden before but it ...was only 4 square metres. We live on a corner block and after both street verges have been planted out, we will have 33 square metres of vegetable patch for the neighbours to enjoy! We are all very excited about this project. Today our household got together and planted out pawpaws - this is the first planting day. Seedlings will go out this afternoon. When we planted them out we all wrote our hopes and dreams for the vegetables and the garden and the community ..... these messages were then put into the hole with the pawpaws, and the trees and the vegetables will grow as our messages become compost. Growth will come from our messages of hopes and dream and wishes! It was a beautiful moment. When the pandemic is over, we hope that street garden will become a community space for tea and conversations. We already have a street library which is well used, so we hope the neighbours will like their garden as well! Enjoy the photos. Just so you all know, when you see the photos and see everybody in them - we didnt have a gathering ..... we are a family household of 8 people!! This is our normal!

02.01.2022 Today is World Naked Gardener Day! It was a bit too cold and blustery in Brisbane today, but some of our farm workers were happy to have their photo taken in the nudie!!

01.01.2022 Our little Silky Chicken died this morning. Molly had the best hairstyle and laid great little eggs. She was feisty and independent and she was a chatterbox.....as she was doing her scratching and pecking, she would make little clucking noises all day. She was very cute! We made a burial shroud for her, thanking her for her life and for adding to the happiness of our tiny farm. We then wrapped her in the shroud and buried her in the chicken run with her sisters. A grave was made to honour her short and precious life. Thank you Molly.
