24.01.2022 Boundaries and teenagers. How is it going for you? Feedback we've received from our parents has shown setting boundaries is never easy and they can be difficult to maintain. One of our wonderful School Counsellors has some tips for parents around the 'Balancing Act of Boundaries'. Due to COVID-19 we've been unable to run our EAC Parent events at Hillbrook so we've been doing them via Zoom or video. We hope you enjoy the "Balancing Act of Boundaries" with School Counsellor Catie Dunlop and parent Todd Bagshaw.

23.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who decorated a hand for Reconciliation Week. We hope it provided a chance to think about Reconciliation Week and what it means for you. Our neighbours at Teralba Park Stolen Generations Support Group Inc shared this post with their community and we would like to share it with ours.

20.01.2022 The Hillbrook Photography Competition is back! It is open to current and past families. We are asking you to take a snap of something that says 'new beginnings' to you. Send in your photos (5 entries per family) and you could be featured on our annual calendar. There's also a special Hillbrook goodie bag for our 12 main winners. Enter here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020photocomp The photo below says 'new beginnings' to our Principal Mr Newton.

16.01.2022 Have you met Hermione, our Hillbrook Hound yet? She mostly lives in the Library at Hillbrook and goes home each night with Loris our Librarian. She's a very popular staff member and we thought we'd share a day in the life of Hermione with you.... You can read about her day here: https://www.hillbrook.qld.edu.au/hermione-our-hillbrook-ho/ #dogsatwork #Hillbrook #dogsoffacebook #cavalier #highschool

12.01.2022 This year, Hillbrook is embracing the two themes of Reconciliation Week (27 May 3 June) - In This Together and Racism Stops Here. We would like to invite our community to share what reconciliation means to us all, by decorating a hand print in a way that represents your thoughts and sentiments on reconciliation. These prints will be displayed on our front lawn next week. If you’d like to be a part of this installation, you can collect a hand print from Reception or down...load the template from the link here - https://www.hillbrook.qld.edu.au//05/Hand-print-templates. Please return your decorated hands to Reception by 9am, Monday 1 June. The dates for National Reconciliation Week remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Lily Hensley, winner of our 2020 Playwriting Competition (how fortuitous that writing is the perfect isolation activity!) Lily is a 2018 grad...uate of Hillbrook Anglican School, who is currently studying a BFA Drama at QUT. Many of you will recognise Lily from her stint as Hillbrook receptionist, or her appearance in the Basement Arts production Death Drop (Laura McBeath's winning entry in our 2018 playwriting comp). This year, our competition was judged by David Megaritty, whose play The Holidays won the Queensland Premier's Drama Award and is set to be performed by Queensland Theatre Company later this year. Thank you to David for his careful consideration of the submissions and the detailed feedback that he offered entrants. Lily is currently developing her play, for hopeful performance later this year.

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Lynne Hinton AM, appointed Member of the Order of Australia in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours for significant service to education, to philosophy, and to professional associations. For those of you who don’t know, Lynne established the Philosophical Inquiry curriculum and PI teaching materials for Hillbrook, and is responsible for the design and implementation of Professional Development courses; including the Philosophical Inquiry Introduction and Master... Practice courses. In addition, Lynne is also a recognised author in the area of Philosophical Inquiry for children. For more on Lynne’s philosophical approach to teaching children, listen to her episode of Conversations with Richard Fidler at the link below. https://www.abc.net.au//programs/conv/lynne-hinton/7774372 Photo: Lynne (second from right) with Hillbrook’s Philosophical Inquiry Team

09.01.2022 The Hillbrook community sing One Small Voice as they join together for Foundation Day 2020. Happy 33rd birthday Hillbrook. Thank you to David Jones for the amazing production of this video and thank you to every one of the 80 voices :)

09.01.2022 On any other year, today would be the Ekka public holiday. But 2020 is not quite like any other year, is it? This year the Ekka has come to the Hillbrook Library, with Best in Show displays, Sideshow Alley, fireworks on TV the list goes on. Even Hermione has got in on the action to show us how it’s done in the agricultural display. We wish you a relaxing long weekend, whether you choose to host your own Ekka at home with your pets, visit the Ekka online, or just enjoy the extra time with the family.

08.01.2022 As the sun sets on another week, we hope that you’ve all enjoyed a relaxing term break. Maybe you were lucky enough to catch a beautiful sunset like this one photographed by Ryan - Year 11. We’d like to wish our school community a safe and happy long weekend, and look forward to welcoming our students back for Term 4 on Tuesday, 6 October.

08.01.2022 Additional locations to be aware of in regards to a positive case of COVID-19. Will post the previous locations in the comments. Stay safe everyone.

08.01.2022 What a ride Term 2 has been so far. After 5 weeks of remote learning we are so excited to welcome back our students. We've missed you all and can't wait for the school to be filled with your energy.

06.01.2022 Congratulations to past student and emerging screen composer Isabella Lauf, who was recently invited to join popular kids TV show Bluey as assistant composer. If you haven’t seen the Brisbane based animation, Bluey, it is fun for big kids and little kids alike. Thank you Isy for the wonderful shout out to Hillbrook and Mr Jones!... I went to Hillbrook Anglican School and the music program was great. The teacher, David Jones, was amazing. I still talk to him every now and again. I think having the choice and freedom to do what I wanted in that class from time to time, while also learning the things I needed to know, made me realise you don’t have to be a performer or a teacher to have a career in music. We can’t wait to see what Isy does next.

05.01.2022 Did you know the Environment Club, together with Mrs Johnston and Mr Larkin, fossick through the bins and skips to make sure Hillbrook's rubbish ends up where it should! This ensures our soft plastics, compostable materials and recycling are not contaminated by the wrong rubbish. It's a smelly and messy job, but the Environment Club do it anyway. A huge thank you to this dedicated group of teachers and students for the effort they make to reduce our ecological footprint! ... 02.01.2022 Join in our #bestbackyardbug challenge and share photos of the best bugs you can find in your backyard in the comments below. We'd love to see what caterpillars and beetles are lurking in your gardens :)

02.01.2022 Sorry we've been a bit quiet over here on Facebook. We've been very busy putting together HIllbrook in Action Online so you can still come into our school for a look at who we are and what we do, despite the restrictions due to COVID-19. We invite you to click on the link below, spend some time, look around and if you have any questions, ask them in the comments below or via the form at the bottom of the Hillbrook in Action page.... You might also notice while you are there, that we have a brand new website which we have also just launched. Please look around and we hope you find it helpful. https://www.hillbrook.qld.edu.au/hillbrook-in-action-online/
