12.01.2022 ALL REGIONAL TRIALS GOING AHEAD - STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED As you are aware, the Australian Government has announced that all organised, non-essen...tial mass gatherings attended by more than 500 people must be cancelled from Monday 16 March 2020. While the announcement was very clear this does not apply to schools, and that there is no need for mass school closures, it does include activities such as fetes, fairs, concerts and the like where they involve more than 500 people. As our response to COVID-19 is all about containment, a decision has been made to cancel the following Queensland School Sport events: - Swimming for Boys and Girls aged 10-12 years state championships (Monday 23 March to Wednesday 25 March). - Swimming for Boys and Girls aged 13-19 years state championships. (Thursday 26 March to Saturday 28 March). These directions are all about supporting the effort to contain and slow the spread of COVID-19. Our schools play a vital role in this effort and I ask for your continued support and attention to actions that will support this containment effort. Information regarding payments, refunds and uniforms will be sent directly to all those affected, so we please ask that you wait for direction. We understand that at this point in time patience is required and we truly appreciate the efforts everyone is going to as they remain patient and calm. REGIONAL TRIALS At this stage, all programmed regional trials will still go ahead as planned as the numbers are generally lower than 500. Obviously the situation can change at any given time, but for now, please continue to plan for any trial dates as per normal. The department will continue to provide ongoing communication to you as Australia’s response to COVID-19 evolves. Thank you for your vigilance in minimising the risk to students, staff and communities during this time. The above message will also be posted on the Queensland School Sport website and the content can be distributed through your networks. We welcome sharing of this information to minimise the strain of constant phone calls to the office.
