22.01.2022 Bill Mosley, Hill End Artist, held a ‘Tintype’ workshop on the 25th June 2020 at Cranbrook School in Sydney. Tintype is the same technique as used by Beaufoy Merlin to produce the Holtermann Collection of images that are now held by the State Library of NSW https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/stories/holtermann-collection. Cranbrook School, founded in 1918, has a wonderful Motto: Latin: Esse Quam Videri; (To be, rather than to seem to be) Its connection with Hill End arts goes back to the 1970’s, their art teacher Justin O’Brien, was a close friend of Margaret Olley, Peter Kingston and other artists that drew inspiration from Hill End. All students involved had a great time learning this fascinating process of producing images, it is hoped to run the workshop again....

20.01.2022 For this week's #BRAGStudioSet we look at Rockley-based artist Tim Miller. "I work in the landscape and from my studio in Rockley As a painter I study light and... its reflections off surfaces and its bending through the atmosphere. The way a high cloud five hundred kilometres away can change the bend of the light and hence colour of a sunrise or sunset inspires me to continue looking and learning. At the moment I am painting a small plein air study each day looking at the ambient frequency of the light of winter. I am also revisiting some of my older paintings and recomposing them My studio and garden has been an ongoing building project since 1981 when my wife and I moved to Rockley with our eldest son. My Studio and Gallery has been the place of many workshops and exhibitions and is currently open by appointment." Tim Miller Rockley, August 2020 You can visit Tim’s website via the following link: www.rockleystudio.com.au Images: Tim in Studio, Tim Miller, two samples of recent plein air studies, 2020.

19.01.2022 See Melbourne through the eyes of Rupert Bunny. 'Bunny returned to Melbourne in the 1930s after thirty years of considerable success in Paris when his beloved ...wife Jeanne died and he was facing extreme financial hardship. I think walks in the gardens were some sort of salve, as was painting. These small works always seem like little beacons of hope modest, but full of life and optimism and the appreciation of the small and fleeting things in life.'
