21.01.2022 After yesterday’s exciting announcement about being open for bookings again, today’s news about metropolitan Melbourne’s Stage 3 lockdown has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works. We’re devastated for our Melbourne guests who made bookings in the last couple of days and will have to cancel (with full refund, of course). At this stage we’re still accepting bookings from residents in regional Victoria. Stay safe, everyone!

19.01.2022 This beautiful piece of minimalist art is actually an accidental photo taken of the ceiling while putting my phone on the dining table. Its the exact point where the two arched modules of the house meet. Cool huh?

18.01.2022 The Grampians National Park is a dog-free zone but dont let that stop you and the pupper from exploring the local area. There are some lovely scenic walks nearby - you just have to head down the driveway and turn left or right.

17.01.2022 I spy... this guy! There’s a great view of Gariwerd from our front window, but peep through a pair of bird-watching binoculars and you can make out all the amazing cliff details (as well as the neighbour’s electric fence ).

14.01.2022 Look! Four fluffy babies! The masked lapwing eggs we posted about a few weeks ago hatched yesterday and their parents are ferociously protective, understandably. We would like the dam back eventually but for the time being were happy to give this loud little family a home. @ Hillrise Cottage

11.01.2022 Working bee weekend! Weve been meaning to do this for the last 2 years. The cottage looks almost new again! Just needs a new front deck and a lick of paint on the outside and shell be sweet as mate.

11.01.2022 We’re back! Geez, this lockdown has been particularly tough, hasn’t it? Poor Hillrise has been sitting empty for over 6 weeks, but we’re so pleased to hear regional Victoria is taking the next step out of restrictions tomorrow night which means we’re open to bookings from regional Victorians from Thursday! (Metro Melb, we bloody miss you guys but hang in there just a bit longer, ok?)

10.01.2022 Were finally open for bookings again!! Weve also installed underfloor insulation and have enough firewood to last the winter, so the cottage is toasty as! We arent taking instant bookings anymore (its by request only), and were blocking out 24hrs before and after each booking for thorough cleaning, but otherwise things are the same (only warmer).

08.01.2022 The locals here are lovely and often pop by for a chat and a bite to eat. They’re a bit shy, but that’s ok - it’s just nice to have neighbours to wave to every now and then.

08.01.2022 This afternoon delivered crazy strong winds, ridiculous heat, a couple of lightning flashes and only 12 drops of rain. Less heat and wind, more rain please!

03.01.2022 A few days of sanding, staining and lacquering and we gots some fresh new floors! Next job is to carpet the bedrooms (hopefully before Winter ), and maybe paint the outside of the cottage, level and deepen the dam and get the outflow channels fixed, get solar power installed, build a treehouse, make some raised garden beds out of the old water tank, build a tiny house next to the dam... (ok ok, unless we live here full time most of these things will never happen!)

02.01.2022 We love Hillrise in Spring. This photo was taken a year ago from the bottom of the hill looking towards the picnic table and the dam. We actually haven’t been to visit the property ourselves for over 100 days now (we’re locked down in Melbourne) but our regional guests tell us it has serenity of nature right at your doorstep with plenty of space for the kids to run around in, lots of swings, climbing trees, roos and birds. This place is the most incredible private hideaway!

01.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 and our commitment to the health and safety of our guests and the community, we have restricted our calendar and are no longer taking instant bookings.
