The 4Ball Best Ball Championship semis saw Jacob Alkin and Shakeel Pillay having a convincing win over Justin Gu and Kimi Wu by 5&4. 24.01.2022 A wonderful celebration last night at our Golf Academy awards dinner. All the students dressed up beautifully and we all enjoyed a 3 course dinner provided by our chef, Michael Francis and his staff. The highlights of the evening were the celebration of the Class of 2020 graduation, acknowledging all our College Championship winners, interview with 2019 graduate, Bright Thongsom who is now playing for Oklahoma State and the farewell speech from Dunks, who is finishing with the Academy after 28 years service.

23.01.2022 Mirabel Ting had the low round of the day with a 5 under 67 to finish the Katherine Kirk with a 10 under total of 206. She finished 2nd overall and winner of the under 16 Division. Jamie Hsieh played well all week to win the under 21 Division with a total of 213 (71,70,72). She gave herself lots of opportunities on the green but couldn’t buy a putt all week. Hye Park won the tournament with a tournament record of 198 (-18). A world class performance which should be applauded. Maisie Doan finished in the top 10 closing with a 72 (224 total). All our girls competed very well and they all were better for the experience.

23.01.2022 The College Foursomes Championship is under way today. Some of our students warming before they went out. It was a friendly atmosphere before tee time. Let's hope they are all still friends by the end of the day. Foursomes is a tough test of character.

Maverick starting one stroke out of the lead heading into the final round caught the over night leader, England’s Aaron Rai during the front nine but fell back with a couple of mid round bog...ies on the difficult thick roughed Galgorm Castle course. Both players however were caught and over taken by American John Catlin and recent Andalusia Masters winner, who fired a superb 6 under par 64 to close out the tournament at 10 under par Maverick who moved up 63 places to 86th on the Race to Dubai rankings said that he had been playing well but not getting the results in his campaign but kept the process the same doing the same thing has allowed his form to flow this week. Faye Ye, Yoyo Huang and Steven Chen were on the next rung at +3. Guoxin Chen had the low gross round of 67 with Yoyo Susanto also breaking 70 with a score of 69. Well done to all those students who competed so well today.

20.01.2022 Last official Wednesday competition for the Golf Academy students for 2020 was remarkable. Mirabel Ting had an amazing 12 under par, 60. She had a string of holes starting from the 5th where she went birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie, birdie, birdie, birdie (9 under in 8 holes). Phenomenal scoring and clearly the best round ever produced by an Academy student around Hills. Her 45 points wasn't good enough to win the comp, however, as Yoyo Huang produced his best score ever scoring 48 points (86 off handicap of 27) to cruise to an easy win. Ashton Gurung and Aaron Chou must be wondering what was going on as they could only finish in 3rd placing after handing in excellent cards of 42 points.

20.01.2022 Malcolm Ting shot rounds of 67,74 and is tied 3rd midway through round 2 of the Qld 72 Hole Men's Stroke Championship. College Champion, Franklin Lydra is on 146 (74,72) and within the Cut Line. In the Women's Championship, Maisie Doan is our best performer with a total of 161 (77,84) and in 13th spot after 2 days of windy conditions. Defending champion, Mirabel Ting is on 163 (T14th) with Chloris Li 1 shot further back on 164. Jamie Hsieh is 1 further back on 165. The top 16 scores after 72 holes will qualify for the Qld Amateur Championship in both the Men's and Women's events. The final 36 holes will be played tomorrow. We potentially have 6 possible qualifiers at this stage of the tournament. Go the Hills students.

20.01.2022 Final round of the junior pennant series saw our team take on Windaroo Lakes. Our team of Mirabel Ting, Ashton Gurung and Victoria Lee went down 2/1 to finish in the middle of the pack. Mirabel won her match 1 up whilst both Ashton and Victoria lost 5&4.

20.01.2022 Our students performed well at the Gary Player Junior Classic with 9 making the cut in their respective age groups. In the 18 to 20 years, Malcolm Ting is T6th on 217, and Zubair Firdaus is T14th on 223. 2018 graduate, Bhavi Sohal is 2nd on 214 just 1 shot from the lead. In the 16-17 years, Franklin Lydra and Jaskaran Sohal are T11th on 225, Yoyo Susanto T16th on 228, and Evan Yu is T19th on 229. In the 15 years and under, Harrison Gomez is T13th on 232, William Huang is T19th on 238 and Tom Yao is T22nd on 242. The Academy wish to congratulate them all in making the cut and wish them all the best for the final round tomorrow. Yuki Kubota, Andy Chen and Jung Soo Yang unfortunately just missed the cut line by one shot. Other former Hills students who made the cut were Hans Yim, Sam Slater and Mitchell Revie.

19.01.2022 Mirabel Ting leads the Keperra Bowl at the halfway mark with a score of 142 (73,69) -2 to be 1 shot ahead of Queensland Amateur Champion, Lion Higo. A further 3 shots back on 146 are Haruhi Nakatani, Charlie Jacobs (South Australia) and Minji Kweon. Round 3 continues tomorrow. Good luck Mirabel.

19.01.2022 Rugthai (Bright) Thongsom has shot a round of 66 which has officially earned him his Oklahoma State University golf bag. OSU have deemed this a criteria for him to be presented with his bag. Bright is in the OSU locker room where OSU alumni like Matt Wolf and Viktor Hovland display their earned gold bags. Well done Bright.

19.01.2022 Some good scoring in today's competition with Aaron Chou coming out on top with 43 points. Aaron has been playing well lately and his handicap is coming down rapidly. On her last competition at Hills, Jamie Hsieh (67) was on the second rung with Steven Chen with 40 points. Ashton Gurung was alone in next place with 39 pts with Guoxin Chen and Harrison Gomez next with 38. Guoxin continues to play consitently well posting an 8 under gross score of 64 today. Others to break 70 were Jamie Hsieh(67) and Yuki Kubota (69). Scores of 71 were returned by Zubair Firdaus, Franklin Lydra and Harrison Gomez. Congratulations to all those mentioned above and farewell to our year 12's.

19.01.2022 Nine Hills Golf Academy players have made the cut for the last round of the Gary Player Classic tomorrow. Harrison GomezT13, William Huang T19 and Tom Yao T22 made it through in the 15 years and under division. In the 16-17 age division Franklin Lydra and Jaskaran Sohal are T11 with Yo-yo Susanto T16 and Evan Yu T19 have gone through. 2019 Graduate Bhavi Sohal lies 2nd one stroke behind the leader in the 18-20 age division and would have had the lead outright if it weren’t for two bogies on his last two holes, however he is placed well to make a serious challenge for the title tomorrow as is Malcolm Ting T6 four shots off the lead with Zubair Firdaus T14

19.01.2022 Warm and calm conditions greeted the students today who played the weekly competition. With most of the year 12s and all of the year 11s completing their certificate 2 in sport and recreation the field was smaller than normal. YoYo Huang continued his improvement, recording 40 points to win the stableford competition by one from Johnny Chiu, Daegun Im and Jung Soo Yang, all returning 39 points. Naoki Takahashi was next with 38 points. Best gross score was Jung Soo Yang who made 8 birdies 2 bogies and a double bogie for a fine 68 Zubair Firdaus 69 and Mirabel Ting 70 rounded out the best scores of the day. The Academy would like to wish Chloris Li a happy Birthday

19.01.2022 Hayuno Tateura player beautifully this week to finish T4th in a Japan Ladies PGA event. Hayuno recently gained a new sponsor and they obviously saw the potential of an up and coming star. Clearly a great decision and Hayuno is on her way to establishing herself as a solid tournament professional. Hills Golf Academy wish to congratulate our former student and are proud of her achievements.

18.01.2022 It has been a landmark day for 4 students who are graduating from Hills College and Golf Academy next week. All 4 have signed their intent to represent US Colleges on Sporting Scholarships (Golf) for next year. Jamie Hsieh (University of Washington, Wash), Franklin Lydra (Washington State University, Wash), Zubair Firdaus (San Jose University, Cal) and Jaskaran Sohal (Indian Hills, Iowa) were proud to be part of the official signing ceremony at Hills today. Mr Kevin Lynch (Pr...incipal of Hills College), Ken Berndt (High Performance Coach of Hills Golf Academy), Kurt Tippett (AFL football star), Paul Sohal (Jas's Dad) and Tom Berndt (Director of Golf of Hills Golf Academy) witnessed their tremendous achievement. The Golf Academy has consistently had graduating students gain US College scholarships but in this Pandemic year, it has been amazing to have 4 such quality players fulfill their dreams of playing College golf. 17.01.2022 Jamie Hsieh shot a second round of 70 (-2) to be in a commanding position of 8 shots clear of second place in the Katherine Kirk under 21 Division. On a very windy day, Jamie played solidly all day. She witnessed first hand one of the great rounds in female amateur golf as her playing partner, Hye Park fired an sensational 10 under par 62. Hye is leading the under 18 Division of the Katherine Kirk by 12 shots with a 36 hole total of 127 (-17). Mirabel Ting sits tied 2nd with a total of 139 (65,74). 16.01.2022 It was the last Wednesday competition for our year 12's who will finish school at Hills next week. It has been an absolute pleasure working with these wonderful golfers. The Golf Academy is amazed at their resilience in this challenging year of Covid. They truly have inspired many of the other students at the Academy and have been the glue that have held the cohort of students together. Thanks for the memories and all the best in the next steps for all of you.

15.01.2022 Preparing for the Katherine Kirk Junior Classic which starts tomorrow. Best of luck to all our girls who are competing. Maroochy River is well prepared for the tournament.

15.01.2022 All the hard work is paying off for Genta Sasaki who won the Red Tee Challenge today with 40pts. In a tie for 2nd were Chloris Li, Mirabel Ting and Jaipreet Singh who all had 36 pts. Mirabel and Jai had shared the best gross with 68's. Kimi Wu had his best score of exactly 100 today. He is swinging with more club head speed and it won't be long now before he cracks the ton. Well done to all those mentioned above.

14.01.2022 Coming to the last few events before the end of the year, Mirabel Ting showed why she scooped the pool at the awards dinner last night by shooting a phenomenal round of 62 (-10). She had 10 birdies and the rest pars in an amazing round of golf. Her net score of 66 was just good enough to beat Yoyo Huang who posted a net 67. Jerry Tsai and Fiona Feng were on the next rung with 69's while Steven Chen and Yoyo Susanto had net 70's. Other players to break par today were Yoyo Susanto 68 and Guxin Chen who posted a 70.

13.01.2022 Our team played a hard fought draw against Meadowbrook Golf Club today. Playing at Carbrook, Tom Yao halved his match, Daegun Im lost 3&2 and Johnny Chiu won 1 up. Tom was 4 up with 6 to play but the +3 handicapper realed off a few birdies to make a great comeback. Daegun was 1 up after 12 but his opponent made 2 birdies in a row and forged ahead. Johnny was even after 16 but played well under pressure to win 1 up. Great match and thanks go to YoYo and Ton who caddied today.

13.01.2022 Malcolm Ting made a hole in one today on the 16th hole at The Southport Golf Club enroute to a superb round of -4 67 to sit one stroke behind the 2019 Australian Junior Champion Elvis Smylie, who fired an incredible 66 at his home course on a cool sunny day with strong buffeting winds. Franklin Lydra fought well in the conditions recording a 3 over par 74 in T23rd position and Yuki Kubota 75 T37 with Andy Chen 76 T49 being our best performed Hills students. Round two starts early tomorrow. Meanwhile at Arundel Hills Golf Club, Maisie Doan shot 77 in the wild conditions to be T3rd with 2019 Hills Graduate Annabelle Hutchings 78 T6 also enjoying good play. Chloris Li and Jamie Hsieh are T21 Defending Champion Mirabel Ting had a day to forget and lies T29 Good luck to all tomorrow

13.01.2022 Mirabel Ting had 2 eagles on her way to shooting a 7 under, 65 to be equal leader with Hye Park at the Katherine Kirk Classic. Hye and Mirabel were paired together and it was fantastic to watch both girls tear up the Maroochy River Golf Course. Both could have had much lower as several putts from close range were not converted. Jamie Hsieh also played well for her 71 (1 under) with several putts missed from inside 10 foot. Jamie leads the under 21 Division by 1 shot from 2019 graduate, Annabelle Hutchins. Maisie Doan also played nicely to fire a round of 74 in almost perfect condition. Round 2 continues tomorrow.

13.01.2022 Hills students once again produced the goods at the Queensland Intercollegiate tournament today. Playing in their backyard at Hills, it was expected but nevertheless, they had to "Do it". Yoyo Susanto had the leading boys gross with a 2 under par, 70 whilst Jamie Hsieh won the girls gross with an even par 72 in very strong winds. The round of the day came from Jeung Min Seo who won the Juniors with a staggering 48 pts in the stableford format. Our boys won the gross teams event, the girls also won their gross event and the juniors won their event. An excellent day out for our students. Well done to all team members for their consistent performance.

12.01.2022 One of our best pennant wins today as our team won 5/1 away at Kooralbyn. The day started off poorly with our #2 player, Jake Corben, not able to play due to illness. Naoki Takahashi had come to caddy but found himself thrown into the team to partner Aaron Chou in the 4Ball match which they won 1 up. Tom Yao substituted for Jake and found himself 3 down after 9. In a remarkable comeback, Tom won 3&1. YoYo Susanto kept his unbeaten year in tact by winning 2&1. Evan Yu and Russ Lovell won 1 up respectively. Our only loss came with Jacob Alkin & Adrian Paterson going down 2&1 in their 4 Ball match. We now play the semi final at Hills because we topped our Pool for the home and away series. We meet Carbrook next Sunday and all supporters are invited to cheer along our boys at midday for the first tee time. Go the Hills team.

12.01.2022 Mirabel Ting played solidly in the round of 16 to scrape over the line 1 up against Kate McFarlane. However she brought her A game with her this afternoon beating Sarah Wilson 4&3 in the quarterfinals. Mirabel hit every green and had 2 eagle putts in a near flawless round. She had to tap in birdies as well to have a convincing win. She meets Sarah Hammett in the semis tomorrow morning.

11.01.2022 Yoyo Susanto and Justin Gu both returned a Vs Par score of +5. Yoyo had a wonderful gross score of 65 (-7) to win on a countback because a tremendous back 9 of 5 under, 31.Justin broke par as well with a 71 but unfortunately, he played the front 9 well which doesn't help his cause in a countback situation. Rishi Iyer was alone on the next rung with (75) +4. Jaskaran Sohal and Roy Huang were just 1 further back on +3. We have 23 boys and 9 girls competing in the Gary Player and Katherine Kirk events respectively next week and the Academy wishes them all the best.

10.01.2022 Evan Yu won the Hills Junior Classic with a total of 139 (69,70). He won by 3 shots over Dujuan Snyman (72,70) who is just 13 years old. Mirabel Ting won the girls gross with a score of 142 (71,71). Toby Martin won the best net on a countback with 139 and Mia Love won the girls best net with a score of 139. Thanks to all the participants and parents/friends who supported them in getting to the event. Also thanks to Robert McNamara (Hills Golf Course Manager) and his staff for preparing the course and the Hills Golf Academy staff of Ian Peters and Bradley Nienaber for their professional assistance.

10.01.2022 Mirabel Ting raced to 4 up in as many holes in the Qld Women’s final but that wasn’t enough to stop Lion Higo from winning 3&1. Lion played flawlessly the last 14 holes making 4 birdies and 10 pars. Mirabel didn’t make too many mistakes and so can hold her head up high in making it to the final and giving it her best shot. The Academy is proud of her efforts.

09.01.2022 Who will make the finals? The 4Ball Championship is down to the semi-finals with Jacob Alkin/Shakeel Pillay v Justin Gu/Kimi Wu and Genta Sasaki/Hayato Abe v Jennifer Cho/Victoria Lee. Good luck to all teams.

09.01.2022 Mirabel Ting played her way into the final of the Queensland Women’s Amateur Championship by convincingly beating Sarah Hammett in the semifinal by a margin of 5&4. She will meet Lion Hugo in the final this afternoon. Mirabel was 2 under this morning on the demanding Arundel Hills Golf Course. The Academy and students wish her all the best in the final. Go Hills.

08.01.2022 Vicious storm yesterday forced our Wednesday competition to be abandoned. Students got in just before the hail came. It bucketed down and water came into the Golf Academy even though we had all the roller doors closed. Proud of the students who saw early lightning and came off the course. Another part of the learning curve is to be aware of the dangers such a storm cell can bring. Well done everyone.

08.01.2022 Harrison Gomez shot a very commendable two over par 74 in the final round of the Gary Player Classic finishing on 306 to move up to a T7 in the 15 and under age division. William Huang playing with a slight injury 316 T17 and Tom Yao 325 T23 rounded out this division. In the 16-17 Division Franklin Lydra 300 T9 Jaskaran Sohal 302 13th Amadeus Susanto 303 T14 Evan Yu 311 T24 The 18-20 age group Malcolm Ting struggled with the putter to record 76 for the round on 293 in T7 position Zubair Firdaus played a very solid round of level par to finish on 295 T11 place 2019 Graduate Bhavi Sohal struggled in round four however still playing well enough to claim outright 4th with 291

08.01.2022 To make the dinner run so smoothly, there was a lot of planning and help prior and during the night. A special shout out to our IT guru, Scott McNee and Head of Secondary, Julie-Anne Skelton who both helped us immensely on the night. I would also like to mention Anthony Quayle, 2020 Qld Open Champion and Hills alumni, for giving his time to speak and present, all the staff of the Academy for their hard work in the weeks leading up to the dinner and Mr Kevin Lynch (Principal), Mr Joe Marinov (CEO HEF) and Mrs Joelle parer (Year 12 Coordinator for their continued support of the golf program.

08.01.2022 In a reduced field for the Monthly medal due to the Queensland Amateur tournament, we still had some very good performances. Stanley Lin shot the low net with a 69 (83) with Brad Hsu (82) and Tom Yao (80) coming in a tie for 2nd with a net 71. Hayato Abe (82) was next with a net 72 and Ashton Gurung (86) a shot further back with a net 73. Well done to those mentioned above in competing well from the championship tees.

08.01.2022 Johnny Chiu played well to record a stableford score of 39 pts to win the competition today. He was 2 points clear of second place which was shared by Guoxin Chen (64), Jaskaran Sohal (73) Roy Huang (78) and Yoyo Huang (106) with 37 pts. Guoxin had a remarkable round of 64 off +7 and His playing partner, Zubair Firdaus, shot a 69 to have the only rounds in the 60's today.

07.01.2022 After a shaky start Jake McLeod regained his game to shoot a 2 under 69 in the third round of the Celtic Classic on the European Tour and lies T9 at 10 under par. Maverick Antcliff carded a one under par 70 and enters the final round at -4 in a T55 Good fortune in the final round Gentlemen

07.01.2022 Round 1 of the Hills Junior Classic is under way today in near perfect conditions.

07.01.2022 Although the greens had been renovated, the scoring was still very good today in the Wednesday competition. Genta Sasaki won the event with 41 stableford points. He edged out Justin Gu, Faye Ye and Ton Jiadnongyung on 40 pts with another trio of Ella Murray-Williams, Ashton Gurung and Brad Hsu all on 39 pts. Justin Gu had the low round of the day with a 2 under 70. Well done to all those mentioned above.

06.01.2022 The final round of the SEQDGA pennant season saw our team play against Meadowbrook Golf Club. Jeongmin Seo was hit be an errant golf ball and was forced to retire his match after 6 holes. Jennifer Cho and Ton Jiadyungnong also lost their matches in a close tussle with their Meadowbrook opponents. The Redland Bay team won the pennant in a strong display all season. They beat a solid Windaroo Lskes team 2/1 in the final. I was proud to have presented the Tom Berndt shield to the Redland Bay team at the conclusion of the tournament today. They defended the shield that they won so convincingly in 2019. Well done to all our Hills reps for the season.

06.01.2022 Jai Singh played nicely today to win the comp with 42 points (70). Jai had 5 birdies in his round with a 3 under back 9. Hayato Abe (75) and Aaron Chung (71) were tied 2nd with 40 pts. Roy Huang (76) and Stanley Lin (77) were on the next rung with 39 pts.Low round of the day went to Mirabel Ting who fired a 5 under 67. She has "Bragging rights" over brother Malcolm who had a 69. Well done to all mentioned above.

06.01.2022 Our students competed in the South east Queensland District Men's Championship at Beaudesert yesterday. Evan Yu was our best player finishing Tied 3rd with a round of 74. Zubair Firdaus and Malcolm Ting returned 76's for Tied 7th. The greens were hard and fast which contributed to some higher than expected scoring.

06.01.2022 Sydney Naro has won the Ontario Woman’s Amateur by one stroke shooting 4 very consistent rounds of 72-73-72-71. This is a very prestigious tournament in Canada and has been won in the past by Alena Sharp and Brooke Henderson. Hills Golf Academy congratulates Sydney for this amazing win and hope it catapults her to future success

06.01.2022 Jake Mcleod shot a one under par 70 in the final round of the Celtic Classic on the European Tour to drop into a tie for 14th on 11 under par after previous rounds of 65-69-69 This was the first cut made by Jake in this new Covid campaign and hopefully helps some successful momentum to develop in the next two weeks. Maverick Antcliff fired a four under par 67 in the last round to move up to tied 31st on 8 under for the event having previously made one cut for a T55th is also hoping this propels him to some higher finishes in the events to come.

04.01.2022 Our Special Development golf group were privileged to have Titleist Guru, Matt Dowling, ran a workshop on understanding the difference in golf balls and how they react. The students were using wedges to observe the ball flight and spin rate on the different golf ball (Pro V1 and Pro V1 X). Matt also gave the students some insights in the history of Titleist and the R&D that goes into creating a high quality product. The Academy wish to thank Matt and the Titleist team for their continued support of our Program.

04.01.2022 Our students in action on the last day of the Qld 72 hole stroke. Tough pins with fast greens are asking some questions. Mirabel has fought her way back to be 7th with one round to go and her brother, Malcolm is T 17th. The top 16 qualify for the Maych Play.

04.01.2022 I brought my puppy Dasha out to the Academy to keep a close eye on her because she had a tick removed from her eye. She befriended all the students that day. I realised that many of our international students have their own pets back home and miss them dearly. When they would come in after their rounds on Wednesday, many students would sit beside Dasha and give her some rubs and pats. I realised that it was good therapy for the students to engage in such an activity with a pet because they have been somewhat isolated here in Australia and can't get back home to visit their loved ones and pets. So now, Dasha has become a regular visitor on a Wednesday. She has become the Golf Academy mascot.

04.01.2022 It is with great sadness that the Golf Academy wish to announce that Bradley Nienaber has resigned from the Golf Academy to take up a position as Teaching Professional at the prestigious Pymble Golf Club, Sydney. Bradley will head to Sydney in early January to commence work there. The Golf Academy congratulates him such a wonderful achievement and wish him all the best in the future. He has been a wonderful asset to our coaching staff and he will be missed. Our loss will be Pymble's gain as he is an outstanding golf coach. Good luck Bradley.

04.01.2022 The last pool match of the 2021 Pennant series was played against Kooralbyn at Kooralbyn. The day started with a late withdraw to our team and supporter and caddy Naoki Takahashi was given an immediate promotion to play with Aaron Chou in the lead out 4BBB match with one set of clubs. The match was very competitive and was sealed when Aaron chipped in for a birdie on the last hole to win 1 up Tom Yao was promoted up to the new number 2 singles position and acquitted him sel...f admirably winning 3/1 after being 3 down at the turn. Amadeus Susanto fought well to win at number one 2/1 with Russ Lovell and Evan Yu both winning on the last hole. This gave Hills 5 of the six matches with only Jacob Alain and Adrian Patterson going down 2/1 in a close encounter. It was a pleasure to play the iconic Kooralbyn course which was presented in fine condition despite the heavy rain that fell the evening prior. See more

02.01.2022 What an incredible semi final match against Redland Bay today. With only a few holes to play , it looked like a 3 all draw was going to be the result. However, a series of clutch birdies saw our team fall over the line 4.5 to 1.5. Thanks to the Redland Bay team for making the match a memorable one. They are a great bunch of guys who played the game in such a fine spirit.

01.01.2022 Our girls represented Hills in the Junior pennant series today at Windaroo. They won 2.5 to .5 against Carbrook. Maisie Doan won 5&3, Fiona Feng won 2&1 and Faye Ye won the last 2 holes to halve her match. They all played solidly and they enjoyed the match play experience. It has kept our slim chances of making the finals alive. Well done girls.
