23.01.2022 As we journey deeper into the ‘realm’ of technology and virtual realities, can we truly say that we are aware of the adverse effects it could be having on our children’s development and wellbeing? Have we unknowingly succumbed to video games and isolated activities instead of social interactions and productive play because it’s a ‘behavioral pacifier?’ From conception, our brain is continually changing, gathering and molding to the environments in which it is placed; the de...velopment of our brain's circuitry is a result of many intricate neurodevelopmental events, influenced by both genetic and environmental exposures. While we may have limited control of the development of some of our brain’s ‘pathways’, we do have the ability to change some of their exposures and environmental influences. Although technology can provide some quality educational experiences subjectively speaking, of course we really should consider what is best for our children and negotiate the time spent on unproductive technology.
