21.01.2022 This weeks Bah Bah Bio is none other than the lifeblood of this club, our great President Steve Wickman. One of the nicest people that anyone has ever come across, Steve year after year ensures the best possible cricketing experience for any Bah Bah from sunrise to sunset and beyond. Let’s get to know him a little bit more. Player Profile Steve Wickman Nickname: Ruben... Occupation: Full time Spool host, Professional storyteller. Junior Club: Hills Barbarians Senior Clubs played for: Hills Barbarians Highest Score: 92no in B1s Best Bowling: 6/45 off 21 in an A grade GF Personal Cricket Highlight: 8 Grand Final Wins in 10 Seasons Best Player Played with: Best Bat Ian Johnstone Best Bowler Matt Rudd Best Player Played Against: Can’t separate Mick Hartin, Darren Rudd and Steve Karam Not Bob Smith!! Funniest Teammate: Greg Dunn Most Annoying Teammate: Probably Bob Smith Funniest thing seen on a cricket field: My brother running out a batsman after he told him four time the ball did not go for four. The batter went off his nut. Best Advice Received: Always listen to anyone trying to tell you something or help you. Take it in say thank you and use it if it works or throw it out if not. People only try to help because they like you. Favourite current international cricketer: Marnus Favourite all time cricketer: Shane Warne, could watch him bowl for days

17.01.2022 It’s that time of year and our A grade boys are undefeated on the field and doing great things off it as well. Led by Captain Angus Salvador Dali Carroll and his team of merry Mo’s, the boys are doing their part to change the face of men’s mental health. If you can spare a little to help the boys out, every donation is greatly appreciated! Please see the link below ... https://movember.com/t/HillsBarbarians

16.01.2022 MASTER BLAST AND JUNIOR BLAST Hi disappointingly due to the poor weather and the saturation of the grounds we have decided to call the program off this evening. Hopefully next week we will have better weather please stay out of the weather and be safe Steve

15.01.2022 Not a lot of cricket possible around the grounds today but our A grade side gave themselves every chance to get the points!

14.01.2022 Around the grounds for Round 2, a mixed bag of results. A grade and B12s with very good wins and B13s unfortunate to only come away with a draw from a very strong position. A Grade 3/166 (A Carroll 60* K Milne 55*) def Guildford Leagues 163 (G McCartin 6/37 S Wickman 2/42) B2s Bye ... B4s 58 def by Winston Hills 109 (Y Nishchay Jr 4/8 P Vasani 3/27) B5s 106 (P Harris 44, M Bellam 35) def by Kings Langley 8/113 B9s Bye B12s 3/117 def Pendle Hill 115 B13s 3/197 (D Clay 123) drew with Greystanes

14.01.2022 This year, we’re going to be running a weekly player profile entitled Bah Bah Bios and what better place to start! Grant is the current reigning, defending and undisputed A grade player of the year. After a very impressive season with both bat and ball he is looking to add a maiden A grade premiership to the resume this season. Know your Bahs - Grant McCartin... Nickname: Sponge, GMac and about 20 other variations thereof. Occupation: Client Relationship Manager Junior Club: Wenty Leagues Senior Clubs played for: Blacktown DCC, Seven Hills, Hills Barbarians Highest Score: 186 Best Bowling: 6/11 Personal Cricket Highlight: 98 in 1st grade at 16, back when Grade cricket was tough. Couldn’t get over the hump but to me that was basically like climbing Everest. Team Cricket Highlight: Winning U/17's Nationals title with a great side and some good mates. Winning an A Res comp with my brother and best mates at Hills Barbarians probably tops it though as an experience. The end of season trip following was absolutely something else. Best Player Played with: Corey Collymore. Completely different level to the rest of us and an absolute legend of a bloke. You would never know he had played test cricket just from speaking to him as he was humble as they come and was more interested in you than talking about himself. Best Player Played Against: Simon Katich or Monty Panesar. Chris Tremain and Shaun Abbott have bowled me a couple of very short, angry, fast spells though that made me realise just how far away from the top level I was ! Funniest Teammate: Alan Day. Played with him at Blacktown and would have us in stitches all day without fail. Most Annoying Teammate: Haven't had too many annoying ones. I will say Jack Michie. PEST. Funniest thing seen on a cricket field: My great mate Michael Abela bowled a ball that ended up at the square leg umpires feet on the 5th bounce. Couldn’t even look at him the rest of the day without laughing. Best Advice Received: A quote I read when I was quite young that has set me in good stead for always remembering that sport is just a game and is intended to be an enjoyable part of life, and rarely being nervous or anxious on game day. Said by Keith Miller (Ex-Aussie Test Cricketer circa WW2) when asked about the pressures of playing cricket "Pressure? There is no pressure in cricket. Pressure is flying a Mosquito with a Messerschmidt up you’re a*se. That’s pressure!" Has stuck with me for at least 15 years now. Favourite current international cricketer: I find it really hard to go past Pat Cummins as a do it all cricketer. Also really enjoy watching Neil Wagner on pure heart alone. Favourite all time cricketer: Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting or Richard Hadlee. Different players, different countries/eras but on pure skill and technical execution, no better.

13.01.2022 Bah Bah Bios this week focuses on injured A Grade opening bowling Jack Fitzsimons. He suffered an unfortunate fall in the first week of last round so figured we’d put him to work. Player Profile Jack Fitzsimons Nickname: Fitz1 or 2 ... Occupation: PE Teacher Junior Club: Hills Barbarians Senior Clubs played for: Hills Barbarians (Only club I see myself playing for unless I leave Sydney) Highest Score: 40 Best Bowling: 6/25 Personal Cricket Highlight: Taking a hat trick playing b2s Team Cricket Highlight: Winning the 16/1s grand final in a team of mates who lost every game of junior cricket from 11s - 13s (from what I remember) Best Player Played with: Steve .Safe Wickmen. Surprised he hasn’t taught a few junior Bahs to bowl exactly like him. Best Player Played Against: Played against plenty of great cricketers over the years that showed me a few things but to be honest I don’t really take much notice of names in the opposition. Funniest Teammate: The current AGrade squad is made up of some pretty funny blokes but I think every team I have played in has had a few funny guys getting around which has made playing cricket so enjoyable Most Annoying Teammate: Nick Abbott and Jacob Smith share this award for me Funniest thing seen on a cricket field: A former team mate once performed a double knee slide to save a boundary which resulted in the ball being thrown over the boundary instead of stopping it. I also do enjoy seeing players sliding to stop a ball which has already stopped. Best Advice Received: always try to make the batter hit the ball where you want. Be the player you want to play with. Favourite current international cricketer: Pat Cummins, Tim Paine and Marnus Labuschagne. I enjoy their competitiveness when they play and their determination to make the oppositions job as hard as possible. I enjoy watching anyone who I feel thrives on competition and is happy to do the hard yards for their teammates. Favourite all time cricketer: Ricky Ponting Andrew Symonds and Brett Lee. These players are the guys I always remember at a young age thinking if they had an impact on the game Australia would win.

13.01.2022 Bah Bah Bios for this week focuses on one of our longest standing A Graders and long time Bah, Lewis Whales! Nickname: Lewi, Lew, Lew man, Lew dog, Loops (this one has nothing to do with my name, just the way I bowl) ... Occupation: Student Junior club: Norwest/ Bahs Senior clubs played for: Barbarians are my one and only Highest score: 116* Best bowling: 4/6 in my first ever game (in 11/2s) Personal cricket highlight: opening the bowling in A Grade with my childhood hero Steve Wickman (I can’t believe we didn’t win that game) Team cricket highlight: I’ve won 2 premierships (A Grade and B2s) in both games we defended totals we didn’t think were enough. I remember both final wickets vividly and the moments straight after have to be best I’ve ever felt on a cricket field. I can’t split the two, both shared with great blokes. Best player played with: Steve Wickman (AKA Walt Disney) wins this on stories alone Best player played against: There have been a few guys in our comp over the years Mark Liddell, Steve Karam, Michael Bright. Funniest teammate: all of them, best part of cricket is the banter. Most annoying teammate: all of them. But of all time Jacob Smith, find me someone who disagrees! Funniest thing seen on a cricket field: slightly off the cricket field but after being presented the trophy a very proud premiership captain Rhys Pobjie gave a speech in front the sold-out McCredie club house. Being humble in victory he got his words mixed up and thanked everyone from Guildford for their hostilities. We have never been provided snacks at McCredie since. There is another Steve Wickman story from the same day that is right up there as well. Best advice received: move your feet Favourite current international cricketer: I like the way Kane Williamson goes about his business. But for just playing on a different level to everyone else Steve Smith Favourite all time cricketer: I’ve been spoilt for choice in my lifetime but I’m going to go with Justin Langer

12.01.2022 VALE ROBERT LOZINSKI Its with a heavy heart that I let all the Hills Barbarians Family know that an old Barbarians Robert Lozinski has passed away. Lozi as he was affectionately known was a good mate to many of us growing up together loving a beer after the game. Lozi played in the Junior Club before becoming a member of the A Grade team and playing in the mid B Grades for many years with John Betell and Paul Salzmann. Many great memories of Lozi taking bowling attacks apart... and his roaring bellowing laugh when something humorous caught his attention. Rest in Peace mate have a beer with Bob Baker for me! See more

06.01.2022 James Cahill is offering 100% off for all Tooth Picks that go along with your Xmas order for the Baas Family. Limit of 3 per order.

06.01.2022 Day 2 of play has many of our teams in great positions despite some rain affected cricket last weekend. Let’s make sure to get back to the Hills Club at the conclusion of play to support our major sponsor for the last 25 years!! Go Bahs!

03.01.2022 Around the grounds from the weekend sees a mixed bag of results however more wins than losses with 1 result to come. Round 4 was highlighted with last years A grade grand final that never was. With redemption firmly on the minds, the Bahs didn’t come out with their usual high standards with the ball, some sloppy fielding and multiple dropped catches allowed Baulko to make a respectable 193. President Wickman the stand out with the ball taking 2 wickets and countless play and ...misses. What took place over the next few hours however was as dominant display as you’ll ever see in an A grade run chase. A 113 run opening stand off the first 23 overs between Grant McCartin (80) and Angus Carroll (63*) followed up by an 83 run partnership with Carroll and Milne (44*) off the next 8 overs saw the runs chased down with 9 overs to spare!

01.01.2022 A-Grade minute silence on Saturday in memory of Robert Lozinski, thanks to umpire Jerry Serrano and Western Wolves participating and supporting.
