25.01.2022 Don’t get annoyed, mask or ignore your body if it’s giving you signs or symptoms. It’s trying to communicate with you to make changes! - Have your spine assessed today!

25.01.2022 SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

25.01.2022 As a Chiropractor this video is AWESOME (yes watched it over and over) !! For many this is a fun game you can try out at home with adults or your kids to stimulate their brains! #isogames - For a Chiro, watching how well a person’s brain and nervous system can interpret visual input then control and coordinate movement is sooo cool! ... - This is why we look at the big picture of what is happening with your function not just your PAIN. As PAIN is only 10% of what the nervous system can do! 90% are all the other functions of your body! . . Repost @fisioterapiallove

24.01.2022 Last year we did a 5 day health refocus! I think it’s super fitting if we press refresh on the year and we re visit this again!

24.01.2022 Don’t laugh it actually happens

24.01.2022 Most people sit in their health comfort zone. Not really feeling any pain or symptoms but not really thriving or actively perusing good health. - Until they present to us with symptoms and want to be instantly fixed or put back in their comfort zone. - What is really great is when people understand the cause of their symptoms and get to the underlying issues. ... - We then help them with a plan for not only getting back to their comfort zone but also heading towards optimal health and function! - Don’t wait until you’re in poor health to see us. Let us help you with a plan towards better health NOW See more

23.01.2022 Patients usually present to us with a number of symptoms. It is our job to not just treat the symptoms but to investigate why you have them. - Without a significant trauma most of the time symptoms have built up or are an accumulation of different stressors and factors over time. That then lead to a gradual or sometimes sudden onset of symptoms. - Your Vitamin D levels are one of many different factors we may discuss getting checked and liaise with other health practitioner...s for. - #chiropractor #chiro #vitD #vitaminD #health #symptoms #pain #mood #immunity #sickness #bones #heart Picture: timelesshealthclinic. com See more

23.01.2022 Running into the weekend like...

23.01.2022 What happens if you wake up in pain today? Does that mean the problem wasn’t there yesterday? Obviously different when we are talking about significant incidents of trauma but usually we find patients present with an accumulation of different factors that has led them to this point. As we know good health is not based on purely the absence of symptoms! ... - Questions to ponder on!

22.01.2022 Feeling better verses functioning better!

21.01.2022 With over 8.7 MILLION people working from home at the moment, that’s a lot of people reporting pain! Why not consider a chiro? Usually it’s an accumulation of many different factors like stress, diet , activity, posture, desk step up, change of routine etc that contributes to the end result ... pain. Don’t mask or dismiss your pain, there is a reason your body is telling you change is needed! -... Let us help you function and feel at your best See more

21.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all our amazing dads. We hope you have a lovely day!

20.01.2022 Day 4- Posture - A Chiropractors most talked about topic! Remember posture isn’t then 20 seconds of sitting up straight that you can do voluntarily, it’s how your spine stands upright involuntarily every moment of the day. It’s what allows you not to fall into a jelly heap but to have a structure to move with. - Posture can tell us a lot about the health of your system. Think about how well the lungs can expand, how well the nerves can move freely, how stressed a person is, w...hat joints will wear faster, what muscles will fatigue quicker etc.. - Questions: Do you sit or stand long periods of the day? Has your office set up been checked? Do you use a laptop often? Do you get short of breath? Do you get tight shoulders and neck? Do you get a stiff lower back? Do you find it hard sitting up straight and have to slump after 30 seconds? - Tips: Set regular stretch breaks. Every traffic light or roundabout when driving, use as a posture check and tuck your chin in. Don’t pull arms/shoulders back, squeeze your shoulder blades down on the rib cage. Stretch backwards over a big gym ball. Have someone point out when you’re slumping. Set your computer straight on to avoid twisting. Lie flat on the ground for 5 mins a day. Or over a rolled towel. Focus on tummy breathing. Use a door frame to stretch the pecs. Stretch your hip flexors and glutes. Download a posture reminder app. Anything over 20 mins of the same activity (sitting, lifting, standing) change up for 2 mins before continuing. Walk to printer as many times as you can. Use bathroom breaks as stretching breaks also. Have your posture and spine assessed regularly by a Chiropractor. The connection between a healthy spine and the state of your overall health are closely linked! See more

20.01.2022 Doesn’t matter how famous you are... you still need a good Chiropractor! - Imagine seeing the world through the eyes of your Chiro ! Everyone looks very different - Your ears should line up with your shoulders. ... When your head sits forward not only does it look bad it increases the amount of weight on all the structures of the neck. This can lead to pain, headaches, degeneration, poor shoulder function... the list goes on. - Quick tip : Squeeze your shoulders back and down then retract your chin back (like you’re trying to make a double chin) don’t look up or down keep you’re eyes fixed ahead! Once you’re there take a big breath in and then as you breathe out relax your muscles whilst trying to maintain that new posture. See more

19.01.2022 World SPINE day!! See if you can spot our clinic in the video

18.01.2022 How amazing is the human body? The parasympathetic nervous system is our rest and digest system. Or what we do automatically when we are at rest or relaxed. Ie go to toilet, regulate reproductive organs, absorb nutrients well, restore and regenerate etc The sympathetic nervous system is our fight or flight system or what our body does under stress. ... Stress is needed (to kick us into gear) at certain times but prolonged periods of stress can have a great effect on the body long term. Is isn’t it interesting that the location of a lot of nerve roots for the sympathetic nervous system can be found in the spinal column?. Makes sense to make sure your spine is functioning at its best and why decreasing dysfunction and stress is so important for your overall health

17.01.2022 OMG How can this be? - Make sure you have ALL your appointments booked for the rest of the year as they will fill up fast and we will be closed for a few weeks! -... Don’t wait until next year to get your health and body back on track. Be the best you can be at Christmas and start the New Year ready to be able to achieve your goals! See more

17.01.2022 Love a good flash back! - Did you know that Dr Ursula’s husband actually designed, built and installed all the joinery for the clinic? A very handy person to have around

16.01.2022 The Life of a Chiro... imagine what we are like walking through a Shopping Centre

16.01.2022 3 ingredients only! SO SIMPLE! Coconut , date and cashew slice or balls! - Super easy and super yummy. You can see that even with zero skills of pouring or cooking you can make a very simple and healthy snack! You don’t have to have a thermomix you can use any food processor. -... I don’t like getting my hands dirty rolling them into balls so I make it into a slice and then cut it up to what ever size I’m wanting at the time! - Kid approved also! All very rough measurements : 1 cup of dates and 1 cup of unsalted cashews, 3/4 cup of coconut. Then 1/4 cup of coconut on top.

16.01.2022 Never been to a Chiropractor before or you have but it’s been years? - Not sure what Chiropractors actually do or how they might help you improve your overall function and health? - Been to other Chiropractors and not sure what type we are? ... - Or you just want to know what exercises to work on or avoid when training at the gym/home? - If you answered YES to any of those questions... Why not come and have a Chat and Check with us? FOR FREE - This is a great opportunity to see if we maybe able to assist you. Ask any questions you may have and have a quick check of your posture and spine. - From there if we are the right fit for your health needs then we can book in an initial consult (50 minutes) where we look at your current health status and do a thorough neurological, orthopaedic and chiropractic assessment and if indicated begin your care. - We all have a spine and nervous system, how well you look after it is up to YOU ! Can’t wait to see you soon! See more

16.01.2022 Are you one of the 1 in 10 Australians who puts off seeking help ? Hoping the pain goes away, don’t have time to deal with it or don’t think it’s that big of a deal cause the pain comes and goes? - If the problem doesn’t get solved or corrected ... it’s still there! You’ve just found a way to keep moving until it arises again but usually with more wear of the structures and complexity. - Why not consider a Chiro? ... - Don’t wait until you’re unable to move to seek care for your body. - That’s like getting warning signals on your car and still driving it until it breaks down on the side of the road. Or waiting until a warning light comes before you get it serviced or have a check up . - let us help you function at your best. #considerachiro See more

16.01.2022 Dr Laina will be doing an EXTRA day this week to make sure we can fit everyone in before Christmas. Thursday 17th 2-7pm. She will also be coming back early on Wednesday the 6th of January.

15.01.2022 How patients get onto the Chiro table. - Which one are you?

15.01.2022 Some great tips from Dr Kyle

15.01.2022 How can a Chiropractor help you? More and more, evidence supports early referral and assessment of musculoskeletal pain patients to an appropriately qualified musculoskeletal clinician such as a chiropractor. Chiropractors are not only trained to treat musculoskeletal pain patients, they are also trained to facilitate health promotion and lifestyle advice, rehabilitation and patient education. Consumers usually seek chiropractic care for back pain, neck pain and headaches, as... well as for general health and wellbeing. - https://www.chiro.org.au/patients/about-chiropractic/faq/

15.01.2022 Welcome to the Hills Health 5 Day Health Refocus - DAY 1 - STRESS Stress changes the way the body functions both in the short term and long term. The way nutrients are digested, hormones work, immune system and muscles function. Stress is inevitable but the way we recognise and work to reduce stress is vital. Questions: Are you clenching your teeth right now? Relax your jaw ... Are your shoulders and neck always tight? Do you worry about things you can’t control? Do you worry about what others think? Do you have a clear perspective of the situation? Are you waking up refreshed or still tired? Do you fall asleep easily or does it take you time to wind down? - Action Plan: Choose ONE thing to do each day. - Go for a walk. Lie on the floor with your legs up against the wall. Focus on your breathing for 1 min.. Write your to-do list down. Get adjusted. Get some perspective. Call or text a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while just to say hello. Eat something healthy. Go for a swim. Watch a movie. Read a book. Listen to some music. Have a massage. List 1 thing you’re grateful for today. See more

14.01.2022 Day 5- Sleep Thanks for joining the recap of our 2020 health plan in 2021 If approximately one-third of our lives are spent in bed, it makes sense to ensure you achieve the right quality of sleep. Short term sleep deprivation studies have shown a variety of adverse health affects including hypertension activation of the sympathetic or flight/fright part of the nervous system... impairment in the ability to metabolise sugar increased inflammatory responses in the body Good lifestyle habits are the first step to getting a good nights sleep. Questions: Do you wake up refreshed or still tired? Do you wake up sore? Are you a restless sleeper? Are you sore during the night? How old is your mattress and pillow? Is it over 5 years? Is it too firm? Is it too soft? Are you not sure if it’s suited to your body type? Do you sleep on your stomach? Is your spine in neutral when sleeping? How many pillows do you use? Do you grind your teeth? Do you snore? Do you sleep with your mouth open ? Tips : Write your to do list before going to bed. Go to bed when tired, don’t stay up late. Once the kids are asleep, go to sleep as well (even though an hour to yourself is lovely) Caffeine is a stimulant and can keep you from falling asleep. Ensure you have a comfortable supportive mattress and pillow. Speak to your Chiropractor for advice on choosing the right mattress and pillow for long term spinal health. Expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right for you. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Follow a routine to help relax and wind down before sleep, such as reading a book, listening to music, having a bath or shower. Turn off the TV and other electronic appliances. Try not to sleep on your stomach. Eat well at dinner - not too heavy or high in sugar. Focus on your tummy breathing. Pray or meditate before bed. Download a sleep or calming app. See more

12.01.2022 Did you know that a lot of these foods contain the SAME amount of calcium and some even up to 2 times more than MILK? - The body needs calcium to maintain strong bones and to carry out many important functions. Almost all calcium is stored in bones and teeth, where it supports their structure and hardness. The body also needs calcium for muscles to move and for nerves to carry messages between the brain and every body part. In addition, calcium is used to help blood vessels... move blood throughout the body and to help release hormones and enzymes that affect almost every function in the human body. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Calcium-Consumer/

11.01.2022 We are on the cusp of a new season ! - On my walk this morning, I looked up to see this beautiful tree and realised...Spring is almost here... the autumn leaves have fallen, the winter branches have resisted the cold and it’s now time for new life to blossom! - Does any one else feel hopeful of new things to come? There is something awesome in taking the time to reflect on the transitions of seasons or life changes. ... - It’s time to step into a new season whatever that may look like for you... in health, at home, in relationships, in stress, in exercise, food or simply in strength and self worth! - Bring it on!! 11.01.2022 SPINE FACT : The spine is designed to protect your spinal cord. The spinal cord is a column of nerves that connects your brain with the rest of your body, allowing you to control your movements. Without a spinal cord, you could not move any part of your body, and your organs could not function.... The spine has over 120 muscles in it. This is why our spine is so flexible, and why it allows us to use it in so many different ways. Cartilage in the spine can expand and contract. Gravity can cause the cartilage to expand and contract, that is why sometimes when people go to space they come back taller! You are also taller in the morning than at night, because at night you have had gravity pushing down on you all day long. Approximately 70-90% of Australians will suffer from back pain in their life. Back pain is one of the main reasons people miss work. Humans and giraffes have the same amount of vertebrae in their neck. This is what provides humans with so much flexibility in their neck. A Baby’s spine begins developing just two months after conception. The spine is the first bone to start to grow when we are in the womb. The highest bone in the neck is the ‘atlas’ and is named after the Titan god Atlas. He was charged with holding up the sky our humble neck bone was thought to hold up our whole head, and so aptly named. We’re born with 33 vertebrae and we lose some as we age When we’re born, our spine contains 33 vertebrae, but most of us end up with just 26. What happens to them? As you grow older, some of the vertebrae fuse together and form the sacrum (back of the pelvis) and coccyx (tailbone). How many did you know? https://www.umms.org//spine/patient-guides/anatomy-function https://walkinchiro.com//59358-ten-amazing-facts-about-the https://goodhealthcentre.co.uk/10-facts-about-your-amazing/

11.01.2022 Now I know you’ve all been waiting to see what the famous tree looks like ... well here it is, GREEN with NEW life - What is this new season going to look like for you? What are you hoping it will bring ? - New health, hope, breakthroughs, jobs, fitness, relationships, happiness ...? ... - Once you choose hope anything’s possible! - Christopher Reeve See more

11.01.2022 We FEAR what we don’t know or understand. - Chiropractic is the profession, not the technique. That means there are so many different ways we can restore and improve someones function and health! - We have had so many new patients tell us that they were unsure about seeing a Chiropractor as they had heard stories and now can’t believe they ever lived without one! ... - Love this info from Body Genius Institute. - https://www.bodygenius.com.au/chiropractic-spinal-adjustm/ - A complete review of the scientific literature was performed in a study of the risks of cervical adjustments. Every published study found that the estimated incidence of stroke from cervical adjustment is 1 to 3 incidents per million treatments. The good news is that you’re more likely to be injured by soap (1 in 11,380), a hammock (1 in 85,350), a toothbrush (1 in 99,340), or a drinking straw (1 in 100,600). To put this statistic (1-3 in a million) into perspective, cervical adjustments should be compared to other prominent treatment protocols for neck pain such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and surgery. NSAIDS Ibuprofen Nurofen, Advil and Bugesic Diclofenac Voltaren, Dinac and Fenac Naproxen Naprosyn, Naprogesic and Aleve Celecoxib Celebrex The literature is clear; the use of NSAIDS for neck pain carries a hundred-times-greater risk of severe injury or death. The chance of you being hospitalized from the use of NSAIDS is 1 in 3,190, and the possibility of you dying from their use is 1 in 21,267. As you can see from the literature, the risk associated with cervical adjustments is very minimal, especially when compared to other forms of treatment and other lifestyle factors.

10.01.2022 Long weekend ahead! We will still be open Saturday 3rd of October but will be closed Monday the 5th.

09.01.2022 Dr Ursula spent today observing in a THRIVING practice in Mudgee, NSW! - So many great ideas to bring back to Hills Health and Chiropractic to help improve our patients overall experience and health outcomes. Our staff meeting tomorrow is going to be awesome hehe ... Can’t wait A HUGE thank you @ryan.hislop.chiro and his team!

09.01.2022 Today the Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA) are back filming at our clinic

09.01.2022 Day 3 Nutrition - A tough one when there are so many different opinions about when and what you should be eating. Nutrition can be simple when you look at it as what your cells in your body will absorb, create fuel, repair and rebuild your tissue with. Questions: Will what you’re eating help this process or hinder it? ... Are you craving certain things like sugar or salt? Is it a mind game of what you know vs what you feel? How many nutrients is in that item of food? Did the piece of food have to change form at any stage from the farm to shelf? How many chemicals are in it? Will this food satisfy you for more than 1 hour? Will I feel heavy or bloated after eating it? Does my behaviour or mood change when eating certain foods? Did you know if your muscles don’t get the right nutrients it can cause fatigue, spasm or cramping? - Tips: Win the battle over know vs feel. Try a glass of water first when you’re hungry. You could be just thirsty. Even if you change 10% of what you eat that’s a great start. Eat 1 more piece of fruit today. Eat 1 more vegetable today. Try a different way of eating that item of food ie steam, bake, mix or add it to another dish. Plan, plan, plan. Write out your weekly meals even down to the snacks. Get excited about eating well. Notice how you feel after eating well. Shop when you’re full. Start with very small steps so it’s achievable longer term. Notice when you’re tired what you’re fueling your body with. Don’t take the enjoyment out of eating, find ways that excite you about eating well. Choose something on the menu you have never tried. Small wins = 1 change for the Day Choose high nutrients over high chemicals and low calories. Long lasting small changes is key. Remember this is a battle for everyone not just you, so be kind to yourself. Saw a great quote yesterday - if you’re not changing it you’re choosing it! See more

09.01.2022 DAY 2 - Exercise - Our bodies are designed for movement. Unfortunately in this day and age our RANGE of movement has become limited. Exercising or moving well has HUGE benefits to our overall health not just our physical appearance. See the opportunities in your day to get your body moving in a range of different ways and intensities. Keep your brain challenged and aware of different movement patterns. This can reduce the chances of injury and improve your balance, coordinat...ion and health. - Questions: Do you enjoy exercise? If not you should do find something different to do. Do you stand or sit most of the day? Do you do a variety of exercises throughout the week? Are you too busy to exercise? Think about the reason you aren’t exercising as much as you would like to? Do you think you’ll wait until you can do 3-4 days a week to exercise? - Tips : Try and implement just ONE new thing into your week. Find something you like doing. Enjoy exercising even if just once a week to start. Lie on the ground and focus on getting up and down with ease. Then try it without using your arms or hands to help. X10. - Get off a chair without using your arms/hands x10. Use items around the house as weights ie bag of rice, Go for a 10min walk. Take the stairs. When picking up kids toys, use it as a squat or lunge exercise. Focus on how you are moving. Tuck your chin in before bending forward or lifting. Get back to basics of moving - crawl, quad exercise, cat cow. Schedule breaks to get up and stretch. Use a toilet break as a quick stretch break also. Download a walking/running app. Chose 2 days this week to increase your exercise time by 5mins. Use a skipping rope. Use the free trial at a local gym. Ask someone to help keep you accountable. Go for a Swim. Ask a friend or partner to come out for a walk with you. Kick a ball at the oval. Instead of watching the kids at the park play with them on the equipment. Ie try the monkey bars or do push ups against the pole. Use it as your gym. Take kids on a bike ride. Remember it’s not all or nothing, 1 more exercise added in your week is a great start. See more

Did you know we have to keep payment receipts for 1-2 years and patient files for a minimum of 7 years even if they are stored on the computer? ... that means we have to have a LOT of storage to be able to keep it all! So today we had some custom joinery put in by Dr Ursula’s husband Scott

05.01.2022 We have a very special guest today helping Mummy on reception! #schoolholidays

04.01.2022 Wow! This is a great blunt and straight to the point reminder, that if we aren’t working towards health we are working towards dis-ease. Most people live in a false health zone... ie no symptoms but not moving towards making better health choices. Just surviving day to day in the hope nothing is thrown their way to rock the boat . I know we are all guilty of this and this year has taught us, we need to be building and working towards functioning well and strengthening... our systems. How committed are you in 2021 to make steps towards health and not float in just ok land? I know I am ready to make 2021 my best yet! Are you?

04.01.2022 If only there was a magic posture button for adults . - Voluntary control of spinal muscles can be hard for kids to comprehend and coordinate. We find this is a great way to talk to kids about their posture and what they should trying to do when sitting or standing. - The kids we see in clinic have so much fun showing us how they press their buttons at home. We have even had requests for battery changes , noise upgrades and conversions to a switch instead. ... - It is a great reminder for parents to start the conversations early especially these days with devices being used earlier and for longer. - Posture is not only important for spinal health but also for their overall health! 03.01.2022 First day of our 10,000 step team challenge! .......... and announcing the WINNER of our pillow competition!

03.01.2022 Think about these areas of your life... even if one is increased our bodies have to adapt, compensate, fight or run away. We often see an accumulation of one or all of these stressors leading a person to a point of dysfunction, pain or dis-ease. - Think less about physical pain = physical cause Ie: oh I must have bent down or slept funny but more at what has led you to this point where the body is now out of balance that a small trigger causes a large response.

03.01.2022 Primitive Reflexes are repetitive, automatic movements that are essential for development of head control, muscle tone, sensory integration and development. They form the basis of our postural, lifelong reflexes. - Most of the time primitive reflexes will integrate as higher learning and functions are practiced and controlled but when they remain active many difficulties, behaviours and/or delays can occur. - We work alongside many other health practitioners such as OTs, na...turopaths, physios, paediatricians etc to help maximise a child’s potential and function! - The following chart is a rough guide to understand at what MONTH something should still be present (blue) or emerging vs integrated or absent. - See more

03.01.2022 Knowing where to park on your first visit can be tricky! Lawton House, where we are located, has its own undercover parking. - You can walk straight on in from the carpark to our practice. -... It is busier certain times throughout the day. So if the carpark is full there is parking on the roof top (Barwell Centre) and other carparks close by. - We hope this makes it easier to find us See more
