24.01.2022 And were back into it again... First of the No.9 stud calves getting a stamp put on them today.

22.01.2022 A few photos of some Hillside stud cattle. A nice reminder of how things can look when it does actually rain! These are a few examples of the type of cattle our stud strives to breed.

22.01.2022 Another successful year at the Northern Beef Producers Expo Commercial Cattle Competition. Couldnt quite catch a blue but still extremely pleased with how the Hillside Droughtmasters commercial cattle went against some quality competition. We were honoured to sponsor the Trade Heifer class again this year, congratulations to the Allingham family, Fletchervale in first place, Adam and Tash Sibson, Shadowvale Holdings in second place and Lisgar Pastoral Company in third. A big congratulations to all vendors, winners and place-getters. An even bigger congratulations and thank you goes to the organising committee - it was a fantastic event! Well done.

21.01.2022 Driving home yesterday from checking wet season licks and waters, we drove through one of the stud paddocks and a little mob of cows came to have a look and chat. These are mostly maiden heifers in this video. Its great to see the bulls very active with plenty of cycling females. Rockstar has had his work cut out for him this season. Cant wait to see more of his progeny in 9 months.

19.01.2022 We took the stud weaners off back in July. We continue to be happy with the Cashmere Rockstar progeny with plenty showing the great length and depth of their sire as well as excellent temperament. This was also the first crop of weaners by Rondel Volt and to say we were very pleased with them would be an understatement. The Rondel Volt progeny averaged 266kg at weaning, with an exceptional bull calf topping the weaning weight at 345kg. We considered this good weight across the mob considering the seasonal conditions at the time of calving. The Volt weaners all have lovely polled heads, are as long as a roadtrain and have faultless temperament. Here is a quick little video of them in the yards at the time of weaning.

18.01.2022 The 2019 DN sale is over for another year. We are pleased to be taking home a draft of 7 bulls to be used in the breeder herd. Well done to all involved on a very successful sale.

18.01.2022 We were fortunate enough to purchase two Wallace Vale bulls at the Roma Droughtmaster Bull Sale this week. Introducing Wallace Vale Idol and Wallace Vale Inca to the Hillside Droughtmasters herd. Both bulls have some impressive weight for age, are both homozygous poll and structurally correct. We look forward to seeing the impact these blokes have on our herd in the future. We cant wait for Spring 2020! ... Eversleigh & Wallace Vale Droughtmasters

17.01.2022 We have been very quiet on the page so far this year! 2020 has been a very busy and full year already. Kurt and Mellissa welcomed their first son, Ben Luke Angus, in February and it has been all systems go since then. As a bit of an update, recently we have completed semen testing of the Number 9 cohort of young bulls and also returned from the Droughtmaster National Bull Sale. We were successful in picking up 6 quality bulls at the sale and these will be dispersed between ...the commercial breeder herd, select female group and possibly one new sire for the stud operation as well. We look forward to sharing the details of these bulls very soon. For now, here is a photo of one of the stud cows checking out the new passenger on one of the water runs.

17.01.2022 We have purchased a new sire at the Droughtmaster National Sale. Introducing Rondel Volt, an impressive polled 17 month old youngster with plenty of sire appeal. Volt is showing plenty of growth, weighing in at a whopping 831kg as a milktooth, with a 135cm EMA, 12mm fat on the P8 and 9mm on the rib. He also boasts a scrotal size of 41cm. Volt is the son of Glenlands Sandstone, out of a Angle Zed cow dating back to Durack Quartpot. We are very happy with the purchase and cant wait to see the impact Volt has on future Hillside progeny. Congratulations to Rondel Droughtmasters for preparing a solid line of bulls for this years DN sale.

17.01.2022 All in the name of progress and land improvement. We have done the first bit of blade ploughing here at Dawson Vale (home of Hillside Droughtmasters) and are now looking to the sky for it to rain to see the results. Mellissa Angus Photography

15.01.2022 Not a bad year for Hillside Droughtmasters. Pretty good run at Clermont Show and a good run at the Charters Towers Northern Beef Producers commercial cattle competition, what will the next year hold for Hillside.

11.01.2022 Enjoyable morning putting the sires out with their cows and now for the very long wait to see how the progeny turn out. Very excited to have both Rondel Volt and Cashmere Rockstar joined with select groups of Hillside females this season. We have been extremely fortunate to receive some wonderful rain over the past couple of weeks. It sure is a lovely change to see some green grass. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and wet New Year.

10.01.2022 Even though this time of year is usually starting to get dry and dusty, we can't help but love it because it also means the start of calving. So exciting to see these little fellas starting to hit the ground. For management purposes at pregtesting we decided to put all the pregnant cows together. So these calves could be by either Rondel Volt, Wallace Vale Inca or Wallace Vale Idol. Inca and Idol were joined together with one mob of cows and Volt was single sire mated. All three of these sires are ranked fairly high in the Hillside stud herd and we will be keen to DNA verify these progeny to see who is who in the zoo.

10.01.2022 Angle Zed Franco was purchased at the 2012 Droughtmaster National Bull Sale for $25000. At the 2019 Roma Droughtmaster Bull Sale four Wallace Vale sons average...d $7500 to a top of $10000 for Wallace Vale Inca bought by the Angus Family Hillside Droughtmasters Charters Towers. Franco was retired last year and Jake will be the last of his sons sold at auction. See more

07.01.2022 We have been extremely fortunate here to receive an ideal amount of rain over the past couple of weeks. It is extremely bittersweet to share this though as we know of so many doing it extremely tough in the north west due to the floods, and those on the complete other end of the scale who are still desperate for some rain. Wed like our fellow graziers and industry to know they are much very much in our thoughts.

07.01.2022 Join us this Friday night as we explore the story of a QLD iconthe mighty Droughtmaster.

05.01.2022 We are looking forward to supporting the Northern Beef Producers Expo Commercial Cattle Competition again in 2020. The Expo as a whole is a great event for the Charters Towers and wider region. If you can spare a day or two make sure you get along and have a look at what’s there. Thanks to a beautiful start to the season we are looking forward to putting aside some Hillside Droughtmasters commercial cattle over the next couple of months to enter in this year’s competition.

01.01.2022 First progeny by our sire Cashmere Rockstar have started hitting the ground. We are pleased with the first lot and looking forward to seeing the rest.

01.01.2022 This week saw us brand the 2021 stud calves and also undertake our first ever round of AI. We continue to be impressed by the Rondel Volt, Wallace Vale Idol and Wallace Vale Inka progeny and can’t wait to see how they continue to grow. The AI was carried out mostly on Cashmere Rockstar daughters. All fingers and toes are now crossed as we eagerly await the result. ... #droughtmasters #artificalbreeding #geneticimprovement #waitinggame
