25.01.2022 National Principals Day is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge and thank our amazing Principal Mr Kevin Lynch. Our school is so lucky to have such a fantastic leader. From dressing up with the kids, being slimed for fun and welcoming and farewelling families on our school crossing, he is always there. Thank you Mr Lynch, we appreciate everything you do.
23.01.2022 Hills College proudly partner with PCYC to provide families in our community a safe and fun Vacation Care facility during school holidays as well as Before and After School care during the school term. PCYC Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) is such a valuable service to our families giving them the peace of mind that students remain on school grounds and with known and trusted PCYC staff who we all consider part of the Hills Family Community. A much more cost effective and ag...e appropriate alternative to other Childcare Centre Vacation Care programs, online bookings makes it all so simple and with themed activities or excursions (when permitted) for each day, the kids have a ball, just take a look at the fun planned for the upcoming school holidays. We are so grateful to be able to work with PCYC in offering this service.

21.01.2022 Our Primary Choir recently took part in the Count Us In Celebration Day where thousands of schools across the country joined in to sing together in the streamed event to celebrate music in school. A huge thank you to Mr Gratton for all his work that went into the choir and this event. #hillscollege #aplacetobelong #IBPYP #countusin2020
21.01.2022 This week our secondary students had a visit from our local police as part of Safety Week. Senior Constables Jarrett and Meyer hosted the lesson Think you know which focusses on dealing with online issues and staying safe whilst doing so. Designed to target all age groups from Prep to year 12 it highlights the dangers of online risks and predators helping students re-think privacy and laws governing what they send and who they send contents to whilst online. It also helps t...o identify red flags which should help protect them further from risks. Senior Constable Fishburn from Road Policing delivered the Road safety aspect which was aimed at Years 11 and 12 and was to highlight the dangers of distractions whilst driving. Mobile Phones are one of the biggest causes of crashes currently and often by younger drivers. The simulation vehicle was used to highlight the dangers in a safe environment whilst still bringing home the reality of the outcome. We are so grateful to our local police for taking the time to help our students understand the dangers they could face and arm them with information and tools to avoid risks.
21.01.2022 Our next big project is underway. During the recent holidays we started the works on the new full size multi purpose courts and it was an exciting day seeing the concrete being poured yesterday. The courts will accommodate Netball, Volleyball and Basketball, and being home to the Hills Hornets this is a great new facility for our students and the community. ... Hills College will be the first school to have this type of surfacing. Dream Court Elite Pro tile is shock absorbing, noise reducing and quick drying. It is not only a better surface for playing sport on but also proven to avoid major injury upon any falls. Progress has been fantastic over the last few weeks and we cannot wait to see the finished product.
20.01.2022 Term 3 has been an exciting time for our Year 6 students. In their final year of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) Year 6 students undertake an in-depth, collaborative project known as the Exhibition. Students conduct their own inquiry into real-life issues or problems and are responsible for synthesising all of the essential elements of the PYP in a variety of ways that are showcased to the College community and families. This year, Year 6 explored the Transdisciplinary The...me of How We Express Ourselves. They were inquiring into the Central Idea that We can use our creativity to make a change. Issues and topics that were explored throughout the process included stem-cell regeneration, deforestation, gender inequality, racism in Australia and poverty. It was wonderful to see all of the students exhibiting the attributes of the Learner Profile when interacting with their families and others. We are very proud of all the accomplishments of our Year 6 students, and how confidently they all communicated their learning on Tuesday evening. Congratulations, Year 6!
19.01.2022 We recently wrote about the amazing initiative from Connor in starting his own Animal Rescue charity, Hope For Paws. Connors work with the community has not gone unnoticed and we are excited to be told that Connor has been nominated for two community based awards, Australias Local Hero and Young Australian of the Year. What an honour for Connor to receive these nominations and we are so proud of him. Hope for Paws has grown substantially over the last few months and Connor ...has built some fantastic relationships with other animal rescue groups. He works closely with groups such as Far North Queensland rescue group FNQ Rescues R Us, and Red Collar Rescue in Bundaberg, and often travels north to rescue dogs. Connor has also been gifted a 2 week holiday to Far North Queensland as a thank you for all the work he has done - what an amazing thank you gift to receive. Hope for Paws have a number of dogs currently looking for homes so if you are looking for a new pet, its the perfect place to start. Well done Connor, it is an honour to have you as part of our Hills Community.
19.01.2022 The Year 11 Art students are currently working on Unit 3: Art as Code. For the Focus of Repetition they drew inspiration from the artist Gabriel Dawe and produced a collaborative art piece using wool to represent the different House colours.
18.01.2022 One of the best things about being a Prep to Year 12 College is having the ability for staff and students across all year levels and subjects to share their knowledge and experiences. Recently, our Head of Secondary Science Mr Chris Schultz welcomed students from Years 3 and 6 into his classroom to give them a taste of Science at another level. Students from Year 6 said it taught them how awesome science is, and they enjoyed going to the lab as they got to learn more about t...he cause and effect of heating and cooling the balloon. All of the students enjoyed the explosion at the end. The teachers of these classes were so grateful and thankful to Mr Schultz that their students have the opportunity to explore areas of science they wouldn't normally be able to and they are all very excited to go back to the lab soon. A huge thank you to Mr Schultz for opening his lab doors to our Primary students and sharing this experience with them.
18.01.2022 It is such a pleasure to receive feedback from parents, especially when this term has been so unsettling for students and parents. This is exactly what Hills College is all about, an inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone belongs. We are so appreciative for this opportunity, thank you. Our daughter has hit the ground running and it is like she has been at the school for her entire learning experience. Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere is ...so nurturing and is exactly what she needed. It is exactly how I envisioned her overall school experience would be like. No words can be used to express my gratitude to you all, staff and students alike. She has received cards from her peers welcoming her into their class and when we arrive at the school in the morning, there has been a student always welcoming her by name. Such a positive and pleasant difference. See more
18.01.2022 Students received a visit from Indigenous Elders recently to spread the message of respect and sustainability of the land. Munungali Elder Aunty Levina Page and Native American Elder Aunty Judy Durand also spoke to students about their respective cultures. We are very grateful for their time and the lessons they can teach us all.
18.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week 2020 Over the last week students have taken part in activities to celebrate National Reconciliation Week. This wall shows the hands of all our primary students handprints - Prep to Year 3 in the centre, and around the border Year 4 6 students have added a message to their handprint about what reconciliation means to them. This display is in the Administration Building for all our staff, students, parents and visitors to see.... This years theme is In This Together which is the core of what we do at Hills College.
17.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day! Our kids loved shopping for all the special people in their lives at the P&F Fathers Day Stall. The raffles were won by Sophie and Kara from Prep F and Mrs McKenzie, congratulations to you all.... We hope everyone enjoys their day.

16.01.2022 Next week our Year 10 students will commence their transition process into Year 11 for 2021 through their Senior Education Training (SET) Planning. Students and their parents will individually meet with the Careers Counsellor over the coming weeks to map out their desired career path, their goals for their senior schooling years and what they can and should do to achieve all of this. Hills College has a wide variety of subjects available as well as VET courses to cater to the... interests of all students. We are excited to see what our next generation of students can achieve.
16.01.2022 Educational Support can be for everyone. At Hills College we aim to not only support students who need additional resources, but to also extend those excelling in various academic areas. To us, Educational Support is about an individual journey for each student. Head of Educational Support, Melinda Bowyer, and the rest of the team, are highly dedicated to implementing systems and strategies to support each student in their learning journey. There is a common misconception th...at support is only for those falling behind or with diagnosed conditions. At Hills College, we believe in positive partnerships with all students, parents, classroom and specialist teachers and staff to ensure the highest possible educational and achievement standards. We want to support and guide our students to achieve their desired short-term and long-term goals, so that they leave Hills with a thirst for knowledge, successful prospects and be positive, active citizens in our society. The Educational Support team played an active role in assisting our students during their online learning experiences and continue to constantly monitor, assess, and evaluate current practices to ensure the highest quality education and support for our students. Contact Hills College today and speak with our Head of Educational Support to see how we can assist your child.
15.01.2022 Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art Congratulations to Loretta MacNellie in Year 10! Loretta MacNellie is one of only 20 students from State and non-State schools in Queensland who has been accepted into the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Arts In residence program. This is a Department of Education (DoE) program specifically for Year 10 Visual Art students who intend to study senior Visual Art in 2021 and have an interest in studying Art in f...urther education. It is supported by the Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA). In 2020, "In residence" will be delivered virtually with students engaging with #QAGOMA, artists and tertiary partners in virtual workshop sessions delivered online. The program provides Year 10 Queensland Visual Art students with the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the academic, experimental, collaborative, and reflective nature of contemporary visual art, and gain an appreciation for the breadth of opportunities in the creative industries. As part of the application process, Loretta was required to research, reflect, and respond to the featured artwork Bride I (Victoria) 2015, from the Coming to terms series by the artist Abdul Abdullah. Loretta completed a written analysis and a visual response of the artists work. Loretta produced a collagraph print with graphite pencil and watercolour paint in response to Abdul Abdullahs artwork. Throughout the program Loretta will conceptualise and prepare works. This will begin with two preliminary virtual workshop sessions led by an artistin November and then three days in December working from home to create artworks during the holiday. The college congratulates Loretta on her successful application into the Year 10 In residence program and we look forward to seeing the visual responses created during the workshops.
15.01.2022 A big welcome back to all our students and families of the College. We are looking forward to a wonderful and exciting Term 3. #hillscollege #ibpyp #educatingglobalcitizens #aplacetobelong @ Hills International College
14.01.2022 A big congratulations to our four students who have secured golf scholarships. We are so proud of your efforts and wish you luck with your future adventures.
13.01.2022 Music is one of those special subjects as school where students get to explore and try out a variety of instruments and follow their passions. Students at Hills can learn guitar, violin, piano and vocals through individual or paired lessons through Music Teacher Mr Gratton or visiting music specialists. To expand on our existing programme this year we introduced The Music Bus which is a visiting mobile music classroom. Students can jump on board and learn ukulele or the dru...ms in a group lesson, and the kids have loved it. We currently have two choirs: the Juniors from Y1 - Y3 and the Seniors Y4 and above. We are in the process of starting a string group and rock band. Our extra curricular groups are growing in popularity all the time. They are free to join, students just bring their lunch to the music room at the start of lunch and be ready to play or sing! Students are also exposed to gamelan, a traditional form of music from Java. Mrs Pope, our Gamelan expert, teaches this to secondary students and also runs the gamelan group. There is a strong love for music within the College; youll often see Principal Kevin Lynch get his guitar and play a few songs at various events. Mr Gratton has also become a bit of a superstar since starting at Hills in May 2019. The students and staff instantly warmed to his fun loving attitude, but it was during online learning where parents also got a taste of the fun that is had in Music. Mr Grattons Music Room became an online sensation, it was the class that students couldnt wait for while they were learning at home and parents were even joining in the fun. Mr Gratton also got together with the staff at Hills to create a video for the students showing them how they were missed when they couldnt be on campus. Having Mr Gratton join us has been amazing and we are so grateful for all that he does in the area of music. Thanks to Mrs Pope for her work in the secondary school Music program, particularly for introducing music from around the world to Hills College.
13.01.2022 Hills International College held the annual Under 8s Day on Friday 28 August ensuring Play, Playfulness and Engagement was delivered to all of the Prep to Year 3 students. It was a wonderful morning that captivated the exceptional connectedness that exists throughout the Prep-12 student community. Our Year 9 and 10 Drama students riveted their junior audience with a series on engaging performances. Our art students were playful in their face painting designs, while our senio...r music students encouraged all to have fun as they played the drums in the Samba Room. The Year 6 student leaders supported running a variety of activities, while the Year 5 students, as part of their Future Leadership Program, escorted the Preppies around each of the zones and assisted in ensuring they had the best Under 8s Day ever! If this wasnt enough, all of the students had the opportunity to conduct experiments with Street Science as they worked with materials (solids and liquids) to create a lava lamp. What an amazing Hills International College event which showcases why our school really is a place where everyone belongs. See more
12.01.2022 Every year we remember and show our respects to those who have, and are still fighting for our country. Our students make us so proud standing tall to honour the soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Primary and Secondary Captains presented to the school at a ceremony outside the Resource Centre as well as laying a wreath and standing for a minutes silence to remember them and what they have done for us to live in this beautiful country.... Congratulations to all of our Award recipients.
10.01.2022 Last year, after an excursion to Boonah RSL, Year 2 students wrote letters and created a care package for deployed soldiers, a big thank you to Mr Nigel Booker for coordinating this. They shared what they had learned from interviewing the veterans, sharing their understanding of our past and the importance of preserving the ANZAC spirit. A year later, Corporal Nicky Logan was cleaning out the post office in their base in the Middle East where he was deployed as part of the Th...eatre Communications Group 10 and found the misplaced package. CPL Logan took the time to write back to every letter referring to the information each student provided in their letter. With the help of Mr Booker, these letters were recently handed out to the now Year 3 students who were very excited to receive this amazing package and enjoyed learning more about how Australia is helping the world to remain safe.
