20.01.2022 Tough times for City Council administration and Elected Members. Even tougher times for the contractors who were hoping to pick up work delivering these now aba...ndoned projects. I hope that Council does not lose sight of the fact that every tough decision with red pen through a spreadsheet equals a 100% disaster for the contractors who expected to deliver on the project. The journey through this recession will be slow and painful. A cash-strapped city council cannot make it through alone. It must engage fully with the SA Government to consider how best to mitigate these tough times. There are ways to engage with the SA Government that might just provide some relief. Just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Council approved a new Strategic Plan. This crisis must trigger a complete rethink of priorities, and of timeframes. I have called for a City-State Summit to bring deeper thinking into the development of the chart of budget pain. This is why we have a City of Adelaide Act, and A Capital City Committee - chaired by Premier Marshall. It is time that this important governance device was put to the test.. #MacksFactor https://indaily.com.au//cash-strapped-council-puts-city-p/

19.01.2022 Vote 1 Greg Mackie for Central Ward ACC. #MacksFactor #adelaidecitycouncil #cityofadelaide #gregmackie #sa #adelaide

18.01.2022 NEWS RELEASE - Greg Mackie is the standout candidate. The Adelaide Park Lands Preservation Association has thrown its weight behind Greg Mackie to fill the City... Council's vacancy in Central Ward. The Association's Annual General Meeting voted today to support Greg Mackie and recommend a second preference to Malwina Wyra in the postal ballot currently under way. "Our AGM today resolved that Greg Mackie was the standout candidate for a number of reasons," said APPA President Shane Sody. "The meeting's resolution was based not only on his support for and proposed initiatives on Park Lands issues (such as creation of an Adelaide Park Lands Trust) but on looking more broadly at his 40 year track record as: * a previous member of the Council; * a city business operator; * CEO of the History Trust; * Founder of the Adelaide Festival of Ideas; and * a high-level State Government administrator." "No other candidate comes close to offering such well-rounded credentials to the City Council," Mr Sody said. APPA invited all Central Ward candidates to respond to questions on Park Lands issues and has published their responses here: www.adelaide-parklands.asn.au/central-ward The vacancy in Central Ward was caused by the resignation earlier this year of Councillor Houssam Abiad. Postal voting is currently under way and concludes on 11 May. There would appear to be some delays in postal processing due to Covid 19-induced demand on the system which make it important to get ballot papers returned as soon as possible so that they arrive by the 11 May deadline.

17.01.2022 For those eligible to vote in upcoming ADELAIDE City Council Central Ward . Ballot papers due 11 May.

16.01.2022 Hello friends - theres plenty at stake in the current Central Ward by-election. If the media is to be believed, factionalism and headline hunting have come to ...replace ideas and constructive debate on our City Council. And yet we endure meetings that last for more hours than marathons...! There are eight candidates - and no doubt each of us offer something different for voters to consider. The times are unique. And the circumstances facing our capital city central business district - state and nation have never been more dire in our lifetimes. According to the statistics, out of just under 10,000 registered electors, we will be lucky if a mere 10% of eligible voters will lodge a postal ballot. If you are one of the electors, I urge you to exercise your vote - even if not for me! Democracy deserves an active constituency. Do not let the fate of our capital city be determined by a vocal minority. And even worse - do not let the ballot be cancelled and the result determine by a simple majority on the floor of Council - under the Local Government (Elections) Act, that is the only alternative to proceeding. No-one foresaw a global pandemic. As your candidate, I offer experience you can trust, having previously served with passion and energy, and committed my adult life to service. And in the years since my last service on Council, I have learned even more about how systems can work better - and the importance of strong and positive relations with the State Government. This is why we have the City of Adelaide Act. Having served in significant leadership roles for many years, and having helped shape a more dynamic capital city - by dramatically growing the cultural economy, I have a vision for a more dynamic, sustainable and purposeful City Centre. Over the coming three weeks I look forward to outlining my case as the best candidate for a future in which we face the greatest challenges to our quality of life and identity. Carpe deum - sieze the day! Please share - and stay tuned... Greg Campaign Scrapbook #MacksFactor https://citymag.indaily.com.au//whats-at-stake-in-the-cit/

12.01.2022 For those eligible to vote in the upcoming Council elections in Central Ward of the ADELAIDE City Council.

12.01.2022 Dear #MacksFactor supporters - we need more people with a vote in Central Ward to get voting! Out of 11,689 electors, as at Close of Business Thursday 30 April,... there were only 1086 ballots returned to the Electoral Commission. While the non-compulsory ballot technically closes midday Monday 11 May, owing to chronic Australia Post delays, there is no guarantee that even these priority post returns will get there within normal time. PLEASE ensure that you lodge your ballot into the post by Tuesday 5 May to guarantee it will get there in time to be counted...!

11.01.2022 Happy Easter in Iso mode. Hope you are are chillaxing and savouring the change of pace. Meanwhile, back in City of Adelaide Central Ward by-election mode, the B...allots were drawn by the SA Electoral Commission for the order on postal ballot form (see image attached). Some people get uptight about the suggested allocation of preferences among candidates. I have faith in the intelligence of electors to make their own considered judgment. Of course, I have personal preferences, and some preference deals would benefit my election prospects to some extent. But there is only one position - and that is to win on primary votes. The most important thing in a voluntary postal ballot is less about preferences as it is about actually encouraging people to bother to vote. By-elections in local government enjoy incredibly low voter participation. So - even if I am not your cup of tea, you can help the cause of democracy by simply encouraging anyone you know in Central Ward: resident (tenant or owner occupier), dwelling owner, business operator, or commercial property owner - to please take an interest and exercise their right to complete and submit a their authorised vote. I have attached a map of Central Ward and the list of candidates Democracy - be in it! Vote [1] MACKIE, Greg - Experience You Can Trust

04.01.2022 "Hamilton backs Mackie at Adelaide City Council by-election" As a former Deputy Lord Mayor and a long term council member, I am urging Central Ward electors to... Vote 1 Greg Mackie OAM (https://gregmackie.com.au/). Greg, a former deputy CEO of the Premiers Department, and current CEO of the History Trust of SA, is a truly outstanding candidate who has the vision, experience and capability to best assist in re building our city in the wake of COVID-19. Greg would be an extremely high calibre, independent, addition to the current council, which is dysfunctional and faction ridden. Greg has a long history of successful policy development and excellent organisational leadership. Please locate your ballot papers and vote at this most vital of elections for our city. If you have multiple votes, then please ensure that individual members of your family or group exercise each vote separately. Please Share this post!!!
