17.01.2022 The green smoothie we’ve all heard of it. But why is it so popular? And is it really healthy? Well it all depends on what you put in it. Higher in fruits = higher in sugars not so great. BUT .. the more greens and other veg we use, the higher the nutritional value. Green drinks are quick and easy to make and when packed full of nutritious ingredients are healthful and nourishing. Little powerhouses for on the go. A healthy ‘fast food’ option when I know I have a...Continue reading

16.01.2022 We would like to welcome Sam Strahan, our new counsellor at Hills Natural Health Centre! Sam moved to the hills at the beginning of this year and is excited to give back to her new found community by both signing up to become a volunteer firefighter and through offering her compassion and wisdom as a counsellor. Sam is passionate about helping women to find joy and happiness and she has a thriving interest in empowering women to find their purpose for living a fulfilled and m...eaningful life. Sam’s counselling approaches are holistic, person-centered and integrative. She is keen to help you to transform issues of anxiety, depression and limiting beliefs in a nurturing environment. Sam loves nature and hiking and this has culminated in an offering that we like to call ‘Walk and Talk Therapy.’ As such, Sam is also offering the opportunity to counsel clients while enjoying gentle hikes through beautiful local walk trails. So, the only question now is, do you wish to let those old issues go as you walk through nature or as you find peace and comfort in the nurturing ambience of our lovely rooms? Sam holds both a Diploma in counselling and a Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences/Counselling and is a member of PACFA. Samantha will be available for appointments alternating Mondays and Fridays, 9am to 1pm. Give us a call on 9298 8332 to book your appointment today!

15.01.2022 What is Person-Centered Therapy? Person-Centered Therapy is a non-authoritative counselling approach that allows clients to take the lead in the therapeutic process, ultimately discovering their solutions. The therapist is seen as an empathetic and compassionate facilitator, listening to the client without judgment and validating and acknowledging the client’s individual experience without directing the conversation. Person-Centered therapists support and encourage their clie...nts and guide the therapeutic process making sure not to interfere with the client’s process of self-discovery. Who would benefit from seeing a Person-Centered Therapist? Are you someone who is looking to gain more self-confidence, a stronger sense of identity, or being a voice or advocate for yourself? Are you looking to build healthy interpersonal relationships? This counselling approach can also assist clients who suffer from depression, anxiety, grief, stress or abuse. Did you know that clients that are motivated to change their lives are also more likely to succeed in doing so? What makes this approach to therapy different? Person-Centered Therapy is notably different from traditional approaches. Rather than the therapist coming from a position of authority, the therapist attempts to find common ground, or rather they present themselves on an equal level as the client. For the therapist to establish trust and for this approach to be effective, the therapist must not present themselves as having all the answers; nor that they see the client as a ‘disorder’ or having ‘something wrong with them.’ As Carl Rogers often noted, he saw every client as a person, not as a diagnosis. "As no one else can know how we perceive, we are the best experts on ourselves." Carl Rogers If this approach interests you, call 9298 8332 to book in with counsellor Samantha Strahan today!

14.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome to 2021! If you have overindulged during the Christmas season you may be thinking about the need for DETOXIFICATION... Detoxification is a complex process involving not just your LIVER, but your GUT, SKIN, LUNGS, and LYMPHATIC system. It is important to safely address all channels when detoxifying and to ensure you are consuming the right nutrients to assist the detoxification processes. ... So, firstly, let's talk about the liver and the magic of ST. MARY'S THISTLE... ST. MARY'S has been used in traditional medicine for over 2000 years. Today, it is commonly used for many different types of liver problems and has been shown to strengthen the liver and support healthy regeneration. ST.MARY'S is considered the 'king' of detoxifying herbs, and may assist in the elimination of heavy metals, prescription medications, environmental pollutants and alcohol in the liver. WAYS TO CONSUME ST. MARY'S THISTLE: 1. Eat the ground up seeds - sprinkle 1/2-1 tsp on your food. 2. Herbal tincture or supplement (this should be prescribed by a qualified Naturopath to ensure it is suitable and safe for you). For a personalised and safe whole-body detoxification program book an appointment with one of our highly qualified NATUROPATHS. Yours in health, Lori Fryer (Naturopath)

11.01.2022 THE GUT-SKIN AXIS The cells of the gut, brain and skin are linked by common embryonic origin, with shared signalling and innervations. Many skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, psoriasis and eczema, have increased inflammatory or immune activity, with links to dysbiosis and increased gut pathogen overgrowth.... Some experts indicate that intestinal dysbiosis (disruption of the normal bacterial flora of the gut with a disproportionately high concentration of unfriendly bacteria) can promote atopic eczema. Supplementation with probiotics has been shown to improve this condition in some cases. In addition, gut dysfunction and stress-induced changes of the gut microbiota has been linked to increased intestinal permeability (or leaky gut), which could lead to systemic and local skin inflammation. Major other factors that can contribute to eczema include: Family history of allergies Personal history of allergies Digestive disorders (e.g. low stomach acid) Dysbiosis and/or liver toxicity Exposure to environmental allergens and/or toxic compounds Nutritional deficiencies Excessive consumption of fruit especially citrus fruits Stress, anxiety or underlying emotional imbalance Book in for a FREE HEALTH CHECK with one of our experienced Naturopaths to discuss your skin condition and how we can help to identify and address your underlying cause.
