23.01.2022 Meal times are a very important part of the day; not just for providing nourishment, but for setting up regular family bonding. Sitting down for meals as a family can be a positive experience for both adults and young children as they share the day's adventures. Meal preparation is an opportunity to teach children about healthy food choices, food textures and food flavours. #foodie #healthyfoodchoice #mealtimes ... #children @nof1_child_wellbeing Child Health, Development and Wellbeing Consultancy & Coaching See more

20.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday An apple a day keeps the doctor away; it also seems to keep the weariness at bay! Parents there could be an alternative to that cuppa. Apples contain lots of natural sugars which elicit a similar effect on the body as caffeine. They also contain vitamins, phytonutrients, antioxidants and fibre, which are released slowly into the body. This gradual release provides more consistent and sustained energy levels and prevents the dreaded energy crash often associate...d with coffee or caffeinated drinks and sweets. #funfactfriday #healthfoodchoices @nof1_child_wellbeing @Child Health, Development and Wellbeing Consultancy & Coaching

19.01.2022 RESETTING YOUR SLEEP ROUTINES This might come a little late to some but it is important that you set your children’s sleep schedule back to what would be expected of them to successfully be on time and wide awake for school roughly 2 weeks in advance of the beginning of the school year. Ideally the recommendation is that your child maintains a regular and similar sleeping pattern regardless of whether it is holidays or a weekend, going to bed and waking at a similar each a...nd every day. If that has not been the case these holidays, make sure you get your children into their sleeping routines and this should include dimming lights closer to bed time, limiting screen time at night, waking at the correct hour and having a full and delicious breakfast. @nof1_child_wellbeing @Child Health, Development and Wellbeing Consultancy & Coaching #kids #vibes #doctor #children #babytalk #backtoschool #school #health #healthcare #medicine #lifestyle #wellness #parenting

19.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday Exposing mushrooms to sunlight for as little as 10-15 minutes prior to eating them increases their vitamin D content by nearly 8x! Placing 5 button mushrooms or 1 portobello mushroom in the sunlight will provide a vitamin D level which is roughly 1000 IU or the equivalent to that found in most vitamin D supplements. They will retain this elevated vitamin D level for up to 8 days if refrigerated.... For the best effects turn the mushroom upside down, with the gills facing towards the sunlight and/or slice them prior to placing them in the sunlight. #mushrooms #foodie #kids #healthylifestyle #funfact #children #healthyfood Child Health, Development and Wellbeing Consultancy & Coaching @nof1_child_wellbeing

14.01.2022 MINDFUL PARENTING ! Mindfulness can be practiced in every moment, through meditation, body scans or taking the time to breathe and think when children spill something instead of hastily scolding them for it. Mindful parenting practices include embracing imperfection, practicing appreciation, gratitude and forgiveness and of course engaging with full presence in play and fun activities!... Research suggests that mindful parenting increases positive interactions within the household which is linked to a reduction in negative behaviour and emotional dysregulation in children and teens. 06.01.2022 HOW CAN I GET MY FAMILY TO BE MORE MINDFUL? Mindful families stay together and thrive through the highs and lows of life as a collective. Here are 3 ways to get your family to be more mindful: DEDICATING TIME FOR FAMILY CONNECTEDNESS ... For many families this time can be dinner time. The goal in this time is to turn off all distractions (TV, phones etc) and fully engage in the process of mindful eating and conversation with full attention on your food and family members. Listen to each other with curiosity and engage each others’ experiences with a growth mindset. PRACTICE PATIENCE, GRATITUDE AND APRRECIATION As parents we are often quick to demand from, judge and reprimand our children. We should also be just as quick to show our appreciation and gratitude to them by acknowledging moments such as being ready on time, emptying the dishwasher or learning something new. These small acts will shift the culture of the entire household by allowing everyone to introspectively appreciate themselves, the others around them and their environment. EMBRACE IMPERFECTION As parents we will never be perfect, whether that is at work, with your spouse or at home. So learn to embrace imperfections. Recognize when you hurt your child's feelings and apologize to them and explain how mummy or daddy made a mistake. Teach your child by example how to recognize their own mistakes and navigate through the failures and mistakes of life in a healthy way. This will model to them good coping strategies such as self-compassion and acceptance which will carry them throughout their lives Child Health, Development and Wellbeing Consultancy & Coaching @nof1_child_wellbeing #kids #vibes #children #timeless #wellness #parenting #lifestyle #healthcare #mindfulness #paediatrics #doctor #mentalhealth #healthylife

05.01.2022 FUN FACT FRIDAY Missed sleep is missed sleep ! Studies have shown that making up for lost sleep may not necessarily be helpful and rather may lead to decreases in reaction time and ability to focus (similar to symptoms of sleep deprivation).... This means that it is best to practice good sleeping habits and attain your recommended hours every night. If you do fall short however, do not force your body to sleep extra rather return to your usual sleep routine, and allow your body to dictate your sleep recovery.
