08.01.2022 Are you breathing in hidden mould? Most of us are experiencing condensation in our homes due to our indoor heaters. This is perfect breeding environments for mould, especially the black kind thats particularly detrimental to your health. A few things you can do to prevent condensation and potentially mould:... -Venting clothes dryers to the outdoors where possible. You dont want moisture being removed from clothes to get into the rest of the house. Alternatively keep windows and doors open during the cycle. -Use clothes drying racks in a well ventilated area. -Using bathroom exhaust fans during and after showers and baths, and ensuring they are vented externally and not just into your roof cavity. Install a timer and let them run for at least 15 minutes after the taps are turned off. -Using kitchen fans that vent directly outside during and after cooking or baking. -Airing out the kitchen, bathroom and laundry during and after use by opening a window for a few minutes. -Using a fan in short cycles within a room when the problem is excessive -Wiping down the wet surfaces including windows (use an old towel) and keeping the windows and walls as dry as possible. -Making sure your windows are correctly and adequately sealed and that any weather strips close gaps on sliding window parts. -Purchase condensation trappers from Bunnings. -If you notice mould forming on your window seals spray seals with a mould killer spray and wipe with an old cloth. Keep room ventilated until completely dry.
