20.01.2022 Excited Engineers Stage 4 girls finally had their opportunity to test their drop cars and see if they could beat the boys, who raced earlier in the year. They harnessed potential energy to gain the furthest distance and had kindergarten and teachers vote on the best-looking design. 16.01.2022 Terrific Transition Year 6 students from Hillston Central School and St Joseph's enjoyed meeting their 2021 teachers and having a taste of high school life. Over the 3 days, they learned new skills and information in various classes, as well as in extra-curricula activities. 16.01.2022 Class Pet Year 3 enjoyed the story "I Wanna Iguana' so much that they decided to write letters to our school principal, Ms Ryan, to try to persuade her that they needed a class pet. The letters were so persuasive that Ms Ryan has given in and has presented the class with their very own therapy-pet alpaca. The class have called their new pet Blueberry. ... 13.01.2022 EggSellent Eggs HCS students have been busy caring for the 16 Isa Brown chickens at our Ag Plot. They feed them, give them cuddles, talk to them and collect their eggs. We have plenty of eggs for sale at the Front Office. $4.50/dozen for our large eggs and $3.50/dozen for the smaller eggs from our pullets which have just started laying. 13.01.2022 Engineering Experiments Stage 5 Industrial Technology Engineering students have spent the last few weeks building and destroying various engineered structures. They turned compressive loads into tensile reaction forces with mysterious tensegrity models, reinforced cantilevers to hold large loads with improved torque resistance and connected this knowledge to create arch bridges that had enormous strength-to-weight ratios. All models were tested to failure in order to discove...r maximum loads and weak points in their designs. Special mention goes to Lachlan and Sohan, as their bridge weighed less than a kilo and held a whopping 78kg! Well done Engineers. Owen Cooper | Industrial Arts Teacher

11.01.2022 History's Dark Side As part of understanding World War 2, Stage 5 History today learnt about Stolpersteine, or stumbling stones. More than 75,000 of these memorial stones remember Holocaust victims in the world's largest memorial project. They can be found in the pavement outside the former homes of victims across Europe. This stone remembers David Jacobs, a Jewish man from Sögel in North-West Germany. Students appreciated learning about and showing respect for Jewish and other victims of one of history's darkest times. Gregor Newton | History Teacher

08.01.2022 Yummy Honey in my Tummy! Our Flow Hives have been drained for the first time this spring and have produced some excellent honey. 06.01.2022 That's A Wrap! Year Twelve celebrated their last day of Muck-Up Week as Chris Lilley characters like Mr G, Becky, Gavin, Joyce, Ja'mie and Jana. The class wrapped up their week of shenanigans with a Year Twelve breakfast and a fantastic Students vs Teachers game of netball (congratulations to the Students on the win). While we're sure they have caused enough havoc at HCS, Year Twelve will return at the beginning of Term 4 to complete their final week of preparation before sitting the HSC exams. 04.01.2022 Food Trends Have you ever tasted edible insects? Year 9/10 Food Technology students sampled mealworms, snack crickets and chocolate muffins using cricket flour. Students also prepared food using locally sourced produce, incorporating seeds and crunch. These are some of the latest food trends hitting the industry at the moment. 03.01.2022 Finals Fever Congratulations to the Untouchables team on winning a very tightly contested league tag final today against the Chicken Tenders, who put up a strong opposition in the race for first place. Well done also to Tagged who placed third and to Thunder who finished in fourth position. It was great to see so many secondary students involved in this competition. 02.01.2022 Always was, Always Will Be This week we celebrated NAIDOC week at our school. Students were involved in a variety of activities to celebrate Australia's Indigenous Heritage. Activities included writing a personalised Acknowledgement of Country, making a Rainbow Serpent and didgeridoos, painting gum leaves and Indigenous games. Some of our students were invited to help complete an awesome painting on one of the emus near the swinging bridge. Students were justifiably excited to be personally included in the painting design. 01.01.2022 Into the Wild This morning, Year 2 set off on an adventure to Altina Wildlife Park. We saw a range of animals, our favourites being meerkats, giraffes, red pandas and lions! We learnt lots of new facts about the animals, their country of origin and their food and habitat needs! It was amazing to see the animals we have been learning about in real life!
