24.01.2022 Whilst we're sticking with social isolation as much as is possible, there are still plenty of jobs we're happy to do for people. Blinds and awnings are no problem, and some fabrics are on special at the moment if you're interested in getting a quote, or going ahead with a job we previously quoted on. 19.01.2022 A few weeks ago i had the pleasure of refreshing this 4x4s rear canopy. The canvas had well and truly shrunk, and with holes from wear spots in the roof it was no longer watertight. The design also caused issues, with ventilation windows at the front, but nothing in the back, allowing the wind to flow through, resulting in the cover flapping and banging against the back wall of the cab whilst driving. This design in a grey ripstop canvas had a ventilation window at the fro...nt on both sides, and a large one at the back for the wind to travel smoothly. Breezeway mesh was used in the window sections. The side windows were also made taller for easier access. The back wall was also made longer against the cab. I allowed an extra inch all around on the canopy to ensure that when the fabric does shrink, that it will not become too tight and limit its life. Canvas will always shrink, there is no way around it, the key is to ensure the fabric is used the right way around at all times, to allow even shrinkage everywhere, making covers slightly bigger to allow for the shrinkage, and also ensuring that if it gets washed or soaked in the first 6 months, leaving it in the shade to dry out is far better than in the full sun. All things that need to be considered when working with a fabric that is substantial, and should enable 10-15 years if looked after and treated decently. 15.01.2022 This lounge suite, featuring a 2 seater sofa and a single armchair was reupholstered this week using Warwick Fabrics Australia Bodhi Cloud fabric. Just for interest, on average, the price to reupholster something is similar to buying new these days, BUT, the difference is that older style furniture, that has lasted the test of time generally has a far more solid frame than most furniture available on the market which is usually all made in China. I get asked quite often, when... should you opt to reupholster something or choose to replace? If your lounge suite is an older style, but you're happy with the look of the shape and it's COMFORTABLE, then it's worth keeping, because the quality will be there. You can't guarantee you get what you pay for these days with NEW furniture when it's China made... I've repaired brand new $2000 leather armchairs and it had cardboard inside and thin masonite. There are quality furniture makers in Perth that design and make lounge suites to order. But if you want to chat about reupholstering an older suite, send us a p.m. with some photos and we'll try and give you an idea of cost to recover like new. 15.01.2022 This bike seat was in a pretty poor condition, due to a poor cover design allowing water to penetrate through all the stitching, resulting in rotting the foam in sections and rusting parts of the base of the seat. After foam and seat repairs, a new cover was needed and the request was for any design with 2 tone black and silver to compliment the bike. I chose a simple smooth cover and a subtle silver stripe with the piping. An uncomplicated design which will last longer and won't suffer when there's any chance of water run off. 15.01.2022 Resurrection stages of a beautiful antique armchair we upholstered this week. Many hours stripping down to the bare wooden frame before rebuilding. All the old springs and coconut fiber removed and replaced with quality elastic webbing and a thick 100mm foam cushion and dacron. Good for the next 80 years of it's life. 02.01.2022 An unusual request, from a biker whos gf has a larger bottom than his, and therefore tends to move forward far too much during long rides.... being a gentleman, he was far too polite to bring up this issue with his partner, instead bringing the seat in for modifications to help prevent 'further movement forward' in the future. The foam was sculpted at the back, losing over an inch at the back and in the centre to create a 'dip' and raising the front of her section over an ...inch to help create a barrier in a fairly compact foam. 'His' section was also lowered to help differentiate 'his and hers' sections. A new grab strap and a fresh cover and chances are she'll never know why he's a happier rider now.
