25.01.2022 Hoping that everyone has had a beautiful long weekend and has had the chance to sit back, relax and enjoy a ridiculous amount of food (and chocolate) with loved ones This little brushtail possum was brought to us over the weekend and after a check over from Dr. Jane she was deemed fit and healthy and was sent to a carer for some TLC. After this, (and once she’s grown a little bigger) she will be released back into the wild.
24.01.2022 we hope everyone is out enjoying the sunshine

19.01.2022 PATIENT OF THE MONTH - JULY Reg presented for lethargy and poor appetite, as well as dribbling urine after toileting. Blood tests showed very high blood calcium levels and high levels of a blood protein called globulins. He was also severely anaemic and was showing signs of kidney disease. Reg had an extensive work up including abdominal ultrasound and chest x rays (both were normal). This allowed us to rule out many causes of anaemia and some types of cancers. ... He had a bone marrow biopsy and x rays or his spine and legs. This led to a diagnosis of a rare type of cancer - multiple myeloma. This cancer left untreated caused kidney failure and eats away at the bones. This beautiful gentleman has been receiving chemotherapy since January and has been in remission for 6 months!! See more
17.01.2022 Dodsworth - this beautiful old soul, came in for a dental yesterday and recovered so well Anaesthetics on older pets have a higher risk, which is why we always recommend pre anaesthetic blood testing prior to the procedure (which Dodsworth had) - This allowed us to create a plan specific to his needs allowing Dodsworth the safest anaesthetic possible for his age.

10.01.2022 With the current COVID-19 situation in South Australia we would like to reassure our clients that we are continually maintaining a high level of disinfection. To protect ourselves so we can stay open and care for your fur babies we have introduced the following precautions.... If you are unwell or you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 please stay home! If you are worried about your pet please phone us to help you organise a solution.... Please use the hand sanitiser provided in reception and consult rooms. To adhere to social distancing rules, we ask that you please try to avoid bringing young children to the vet with you. We currently have a limit of 1 person per patient, and if there are more than 2 people in the waiting room, we may suggest that you wait in your car for your appointment. Please pay by card where possible. Please phone to organise any food or medication prior to coming to the clinic to limit exposure. If you have any questions or concerns please phone us on 8278 4147 to speak with one of our friendly nurses. We will be constantly changing and updating our policies as the current situation evolves. Stay safe! The team at Hills Vets
08.01.2022 *IMPORTANT UPDATE - PLEASE READ* By now everyone is well aware of the current situation regarding COVID-19 and SA’s lockdown. We want everyone to know that we are still here for your beloved pets in this critical time. However, a few things must change... ... From 12.01am on Thursday 19 November 2020 for a period of six (6) days, people will only be able to leave their homes in South Australia for prescribed reasons. Relevantly, veterinary surgeons and veterinary services providers in South Australia will be permitted to remain operational BUT ONLY TO MAINTAIN CRITICAL SERVICES. What does this mean for you and your pet? - Our phone lines will continue to be open following our normal hours for ANY questions or concerns. Our friendly staff are more than happy to give advice over the phone, where suitable. - All routine appointments (such as vaccinations, nail trims etc) & surgeries (such as desexings, dentals etc) will be postponed. - If you require any food or medication for your pet you MUST call in advance to have the items prepared for you & where possible we ask if you can please pay for your items over the phone. We will then ask you to phone the clinic once you are in the car park and the items will be brought out to you by a staff member. - The front doors of the clinic will be locked. This means if you do have to bring your pet in for a critical appointment, we will ask all clients to remain in the car, and phone to check in. Our staff will then come out to collect your pet & examine them in the clinic while you wait in your car. The vet will then phone you to discuss any findings or treatment required and we will take payments over the phone, where possible. - If you do have to bring your pet in, please ensure all dogs are on leads and all cats are in carry cages. Because we will ask you to remain in your car, and assess your pet in the clinic, we must ensure patients are safely secured when in the car park. - Please remember, masks are now to be worn any time you have to leave the house. - If you are unsure about whether your pets problem is critical or not, please call us. Our staff will assess and develop a plan to help you while also meeting our obligation to protect staff and client safety. - We are doing the best we can to be available for you & your fur-babies! We ask for everyone to remain calm, patient and respectful in these unknown & scary times. Thank you all for doing the right thing and staying home! We will continue updating everyone as the days progress. Stay safe, we are all in this together! ***** Update 19/11/20: Due to some staff issues our normal hours may have to change slightly. Please phone before your visit (whether it’s for a consult for a sick patient or to pickup food or medications) so we can let you know our hours for that day. Thank you!
06.01.2022 **Update: We are back up and running! We apologise for any inconvenience caused & thank you all for your patience! Our phones and computers are currently down! We apologise for the inconvenience and we are working hard to fix the issues! If you have an emergency please come straight down! Otherwise, please be patient with us!
05.01.2022 PATIENT OF THE MONTH - DECEMBER a beautiful gentleman who couldn’t be more deserving of our last patient of the month for 2020. Henry, a 19 year old Burmese, has been coming to visit us for many years but due to how stressed vet visits make him (i think we can all relate to that) we don’t get visits as often as we’d like. Henry’s mum wears aromatherapy oils on her arms during henrys visits to help keep calm and happy. a beautiful boy, loved by us all.

01.01.2022 We are so thankful to have such passionate and skilled nurses working at the Hills Veterinary Centre Most people have a pretty good idea of what the vets do but not many people have a clear understanding of what vet nurses do! Vet nurses are highly skilled and fulfil a number of key roles in the vet clinic.... including assisting vets in diagnosis and treatments and assisting pet owners by providing informed advice regarding every stage of your pets life. Vet nurses a...lso assist vets by helping collect blood samples, placing intravenous catheters, monitoring anaesthesia, providing hospital patient care and so much more! This relieves some of the time and pressure from our busy vets to help them spend more time focussing on the best possible outcome for the patient. Thank you to our wonderful vet nurses for all the incredible work you do! See more
