25.01.2022 What a lovely surprise we have found in the backyard this afternoon with so many Cockatoos in our tree. Maybe there are some positives from Covid19 with less pollution in our environment. #whoknewCockatoosmadesomuchnoise #raresighting #environmentsmatter

23.01.2022 The Peilcan children have been busy creating Indigenous symbols using playdough this morning. Great activity to celebrate Naidoc Week!

23.01.2022 The celebration continues for our Educators this week. A big thanks to the Cremin and Zhuravlov families for their lovely gifts of thanks today. Also thanks to other families who have sent lovely gratitude emails.

22.01.2022 We are in the process of building a narrative our preschool’s RAP.

19.01.2022 Due to Covid 19, the National NAIDOC Committee has confirmed the new NAIDOC Week dates for 2020 will be 8-15 November. This incredibly, beautiful 2020 NAIDOC Po...ster ~ SHAPE OF LAND ~ by Tyrown Waigana, a 23 year old Noongar and Saibai Islander man, won the National NAIDOC Poster completion for best illustrating this years NAIDOC theme: ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE! Tyrwon Waigana explained, ‘The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to Country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time ~ ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE ABORIGINAL LAND Tyrwon Waigana. 19.01.2022 We were very lucky to welcome Brendan an Aboriginal performer into our Centre today. Brendan played his digerdoo and showed us many beautiful artefacts. Brendan told us many Dreamtime stories but our favourite was the one about the giant Kangaroo . We finished our time with a smoking ceremony to cleanse and wash our bodies. #NAIDOCWeek2020 #holisticlearning #indigenousculture

14.01.2022 Addressed To Hilltop Kids Preschool 61 Barnsbury Grove Bardwell Park 2207... Dear Children, I was looking forward to being with you today, December 1, but unfortunately I am in quarantine! You see the borders have been closed everywhere and life has been ho hum, very boring. I was in Melbourne and Lockdown was terrible. This man with glasses kept everyone isolated, no one could walk their dogs or play sport! However, I got out and I am looking forward to Christmas. I am in a very fancy hotel next to the airport. Last week I saw a little boy called Oliver who was also staying in the hotel. He loves aeroplanes. I think he mentioned Hilltopkids... I haven’t had much on; I have been sleeping in and watching Netflix. Not much else to do. This is day 14 so I will be with you tomorrow-December 2nd. My outfit is pressed and my suitcase ready to go. I have organised an Uber and will be there by 9. I hope you have all been happy, playing with your friends and looking forward to Christmas. I have been told the Owlets are growing up, crawling, walking and talking. The Galahs have always been busy little people, darting around, testing everyone’s patience; learning to use their teeth to chew their food rather than bite their friends. Kookaburras... The first Hilltop Babies! All grown up! A rather important and confident little group with photographic memories, who have a great reward system of cup-cakes. And lastly but not least, The Pelicans. I have been told you are a very creative and cooperative group. You love LEGO, you paint like Picasso, love playing with the bbq and you listen to your teachers. Because you have all had such a tough year and been so resilient we will have lots of fun together! See you all tomorrow! Let the Countdown to Christmas begin! Snowflake (Our Centre Elf)

13.01.2022 Happy Educators Day to all of the Educators All over the World but especially our Educators who dedicate their working lives to support the children in their care every day. Thank You to the Nelson’s for their coffees today and the Pace’s for their voucher which we put towards a beautiful morning tea platter.

09.01.2022 This interest came to life after reading the story Windows by Patrick Guest & Jonathan Bentley written during Covid19. After the children read the story as a group, we reflected back on the year that was and the impact the virus had on our school, the children in care and the world as a whole. The story shows how the world stayed connected and showed each other that even though we were so far apart we found ways of staying in touch. The story showed pictures of when children and people put a rainbow and teddy bears in their windows, symbolising the sunshine after the rain. That one day when we will all be together again. The children wanted to do something which extended from the story so we built houses, painted rainbows and placed them in the 'Windows'.

08.01.2022 After celebrating Naidoc week last week the Pelican children created their own paint brushes using sticks they collected on a Nature walk and rosemary that the Benton family had donated. The children then painted artworks using these nature brushes. We then used playdough to make Australian animal tracks and did some rainbow lettering over the name of each animal. To extend this interest the children are going to create their own Uluru. Watch this space!! #Australianculture #indigenouslearning #learningthroughplay

05.01.2022 Handa's surprise is a favourite story of the Pelicans. So this week we have been focusing on various parts of the story. The children have created their own fruit baskets in the craft area and weaved a bag. This morning we spoke about the animals in the story and some children were a little confused over what animals live in Africa and what animals live in Australia. So we created a sensory tray for both environments! #learningthroughplay #reggioinspired #smallworldplay
