24.01.2022 At the Ordinary Meeting of Hilltops Council held yesterday, Wednesday 23 September 2020, Councillor Tony Wallace was re-elected to the position of Deputy Mayor. Councillor Wallace has held the position since 2017 and was re-elected unopposed to continue in the position for the next twelve months. The election of the Deputy Mayor takes place every year, with the Mayoral election occurring every second year. NSW Council elections were due to be held due this month but were po...stponed in an announcement made by Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock earlier this year due to COVID-19 health concerns. The elections have been rescheduled for 4 September 2021. Current Councillors will continue to hold their civic offices until the rescheduled elections are held. *Image taken in 2017.

23.01.2022 That's a wrap on another HUGE Garage Sale Trail weekend. We're proud to partner with awesome people like you to keep heaps of good stuff out of landfill, make new friends and have fun! Help the planet by disposing of any unsold items thoughtfully. That means donating usable items, listing them online, recycling where possible (see @PlanetArk’s Recycling Near You) and, as a last resort, placing in the correct bin.

18.01.2022 Canola hunting in the #HilltopsRegion Did you know that canola takes almost all the nitrogen from the soil it grows on and because of this the soil needs to rest between crops? If you go canola field hunting bear in mind that you will never find canola planted on the same field two years in a row. If you are travelling through the Region to see our golden hills please remember;... Do not stop on a bend or a crest Pull your vehicle completely off the road in a safe location Never enter private property or walk through crops, if you venture in you may damage or introduce pests to the crop. Plus you will be trespassing - let’s remember that this is someone’s livelihood you are stomping on. Rachael Lenehan Photography #roadtrip #canola #springtime #infullbloom #LoveNSW See more

17.01.2022 WATER MAINS CLEANING BY AIR SCOURING Boorowa residents on the water reticulation system within Hilltops Council, are advised that Council will start cleaning of water mains by air scouring next week to avoid discolouration in the water supply during the summer months. The air scouring process may cause some temporary water discoloration, loss of pressure or supply interruption. This may also affect adjacent areas. The activity will be clearly signed by temporary road signs i...n the streets during the cleaning process. The works will start at approximately at 6am each day and should be finished no later than 5pm. Consumers are advised to avoid using their washing machines and dishwashing machines during these hours when the works are in your area. The mains cleaning schedule is listed below: Tuesday 6 October Wednesday 7 October, 2020 Long St, Ford St, Dry St, Farm St, Court St, Queen St, Pudman St, Jugiong St, New St, South St, Dillion St, Oxley Dr, Kookaburra St, Waratah St and Tip Rd. Wednesday 7 October Thursday 8 October, 2020 North St, Little St, Short St, Campbell St, Brial St, Pudman St, Long St, Corcoran Ct, Ford St, Dry St Farm St, Court St, Stevenson St and Park St. Friday 9 October, 2020 Scott St, Marsden St, Market St, Pudman St, Queen St, Jugiong St, Ballyryan Rd, South St, Dillion St and Parnell St. Consumers should check their water supply and flush their own pipes by running a backyard tap, until the water colour returns to normal. There may be some trapped air in house water pipes. The air may cause some splutters and spits as it comes out of the taps. If this happens, run your tap until all the trapped air leaves the pipe. Clearing the pipes of trapped air and dirty water should only take a couple of minutes. To prevent air entering the household water system it is recommended that taps are not opened during the scouring period. For all enquiries please contact Hilltops Council on 1300 445 586. Council apologises for any inconvenience the works may cause.

14.01.2022 A seven dollar tip fee could have saved one Hilltops resident an administrative fee of $577.00 plus the costs of employing a professional excavation company to clean up their property. Council was recently alerted to a large volume of waste material being burnt in a semi residential area of Young and attended the location to investigate. Upon entering the property it was discovered that the owners of the property had been filling a gully with household and general waste for a... number of months, resulting in a large amount of plastics, cardboard, tyres, electrical and white goods being stored illegally on the property. To remove the waste materials the owners set fire to the waste. This resulted in toxic fumes and smoke being released which then drifted to nearby houses placing residents at risk of inhaling potentially toxic smoke. Additionally, as a result of the burning materials and plastics, chemicals and other leachates were created which entered the soil of the property and create the risk of seeping into the ground water and other waterways putting community members at risk. In this case, a large amount of the material burnt could have been recycled free of charge at one of our waste facilities. The non-recyclables could have been disposed of at the same facility for minimal cost. Waste disposal methods and regulations have changed over the years and it is the responsibility of each resident to know the rules and follow them. Within the Hilltops Region there are dozens, if not hundreds of illegal tips leaching potentially toxic chemicals into the environment. The fine for illegally using land as a waste facility is now $4000 for an individual and $8000 for a company. In this instance the land holders received a Notice to clean up the property with an administrative fee of $577.00, and if they do not comply with the Notice within the timeframes given fines will be issued with further Notices to comply, and possible court action. In 2014 the ACT/NSW Cross Border Illegal Waste Dumping Action Project was launched to reduce illegal dumping in this region. A project officer based in Canberra and working with Hilltops Council is coordinating the effort to reduce the incidence of illegal waste dumping and to identify and penalise those responsible. Members of the public can now report illegal dumping through RIDonline. This online reporting portal allows the public to use their smartphones, tablets or computers to report illegal dumping in a few easy steps. The portal allows users to upload a picture of the items that have been dumped, confirm the location of the incident, and enter some details about the items that have been dumped. When a report is submitted, the NSW Environmental Protection Agency alerts Council to the incident for clean up and further action. For further information regarding RIDonline please visit: http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/illegaldumping/RIDonline.htm or call 131 555

03.01.2022 Council are very excited to announce that the Boorowa Skatepark, on Pudman Street, will be open to the community from 9am tomorrow, Saturday 3 October 2020. Just in time for the October long weekend and second half of the school holiday period. The skatepark construction is running well ahead of schedule which is a credit to both contractors and Council staff who have worked hard to deliver the project to this stage. The landscaped area around the skatepark will remain fenc...ed off in the short term to make sure the lawn has enough time to establish. We ask that everyone who visits this wonderful facility remain outside of the fenced area. The skatepark will be officially opened in the coming weeks. We acknowledge and thank the NSW Government for their support of this project under round two of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

02.01.2022 Council have identified a slip hazard on the flume spillway at the rear of Chinaman’s Dam in Young. Due to recent rain, the dams are both full which is causing constant water to flow across the concrete spillway at the rear dam on the north western end of the recreational area. The spillway usually allows pedestrian access to cross the dam wall. This is now a dangerous path. The service access gate between Chinaman’s Dam and Sawpit Gully will now be locked and closed to the... public. The area is fenced to prevent pedestrian access across the spillway. The only established walkway between Chinaman’s Dam and Sawpit Gully is the one to the west of the amenities block and remains open.
