23.01.2022 Meet Laura Fensom, owner of The Wool Room and discover why you should take up crafting this silly season. The Wool Room has been operating for around 25 years now and proprietor Laura Fensom took over management in 2014. Specialising in all things natural from clothing, yarn to crafting supplies and equipment the store continues to grow and prides itself in both its online and shopfront presence.... Crafting occupies our time and lifts our spirits, the repetitive motion of knitting for example soothes and calms the mind. Other activities such as spinning, weaving, macramé and felting reduce anxiety keeping us busy, focussed and interested which is good for our mental wellbeing and in these times that’s a positive. Discovering your inner crafter is just the start of the process. At the Wool Room we have noticed an increase in online purchases for crafting supplies and equipment so people are beginning to recognise the benefits of such things. No need to leave the house, our online web site has everything available with free shipping over $99 and our order despatch is fast. We are only a call away to offer free advice about your next craft project start exploring the possibilities at https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/ or visit us in store to check out what’s available. #ShoptheHilltops

19.01.2022 Canola hunting in the #HilltopsRegion Did you know that canola takes almost all the nitrogen from the soil it grows on and because of this the soil needs to rest between crops? If you go canola field hunting bear in mind that you will never find canola planted on the same field two years in a row. If you are travelling through the Region to see our golden hills please remember;... Do not stop on a bend or a crest Pull your vehicle completely off the road in a safe location Never enter private property or walk through crops, if you venture in you may damage or introduce pests to the crop. Plus you will be trespassing - let’s remember that this is someone’s livelihood you are stomping on. Rachael Lenehan Photography #roadtrip #canola #springtime #infullbloom #LoveNSW See more

18.01.2022 A passion for gardening and history coupled with a love of mazes was what led to the development of the tourism venture of ‘The Rustic Maze & Country Garden’ The brainchild farmers Jane and Jodie Costello. Their property ‘Lower Coolegong’ is lacted between Young and Grenfell. Farming is a tough gig with a great reliance on the weather to make a living. Like other farming families, they were on the lookout for ways to diversify. Jane had always wanted to do a maze out of hedgi...ng plants & trialed potential species to use; but years of drought and limited water supplies for the garden put a dampener on those ideas. So, thinking outside the box, the idea of a tin maze was born. After much planning and a bit of self-doubt, they went ahead regardless. Naively we went into it with the philosophy of build it and they will come. That was 2015. Since then the maze was completed, the old shearers quarters were dismantled and rebuilt to become the cafe and entrance building. The beautiful garden has expanded, with even more activities developed for their visitors to enjoy; & more ideas in the pipeline. Jane really looks forward to having group tours, organisations and private visit, to share the history of the family property which was settled by the Maroney family in the early 1850’s; also talking about the maze and gardens development. Offering tour and meal packages. ‘I know we have developed a unique experience. The Rustic Maze & Country Garden opens on selected weekends during the year so follow them on social media or check out their webpage: therusticmaze.com.au The Next Open day will be Saturday October 3rd ad Sunday October 4th (bookings essential) #shopthehilltops #HilltopsRegion

09.01.2022 The annual 'Running of the Sheep' in Boorowa is going virtual! Covid - 19 has turned the tables on Boorowa's annual Woolfest celebrations for this year. However, all is not lost and we are having a Virtual Woolfest! The highlight of the festivities during Woolfest has to be the Running of the Sheep down the main street of Boorowa. At 12pm 150 sheep make their way down the street urged on by one of our local farmers and his dogs! It is an incredible sight!... Each of the sheep is tagged with a number and like all Australian sports everyone can add the extra thrill of a lottery and win a cash amount by purchasing one of the sheep's numbers! $5 could turn into $250! There are multiple raffle pools of the 150 sheep numbers! In previous years there have been 4-6 winners of the raffles on the day! St. Joseph's School Boorowa uses the Running of the Sheep Raffle as one of its major and essential fundraiser events for the year. Monies generated go towards upgrading the School's facilities, providing student's with resources, excursions and program opportunities to enhance and support the their learning and engagement at School. We hope you can be a part of and enjoy participating in our 2020 virtual Running of the Sheep. A video of the sheep being run down the road will be uploaded on the day, as well as the announcement of the winning number! We will contact all winning entries on the day and post these on our website and facebook pages. Thank you for your support of our rural School. Brendan Maynard Principal
