25.01.2022 M O S M A N We are well into the Mosman project with the new structure up and windows and doors in, it has been a solid 12 weeks and weve enjoyed the cracking pace. We thought wed show you a few of the early shots of the old house before we show you the new stuff. The entire back of the house was demolished removing the huge laundry, sunroom and bathroom, as well as the external granny flat which was a 1960s ugly ducking next to the traditional features and brickwork of the original federation house. 22.01.2022 R E D F E R N The warehouse library is well on its way, and those with a keen eye will spot the design is actually based around the wine rack we created for our previous client in the Surry Hills terrace. The Surry Hills piece came up so beautifully our client wanted to replicate it on a much larger scale for the warehouse. The integration of naturally aged wood and elements of steel work well together and visually connect the library to the surrounding warehouse materials.... 16.01.2022 R E D F E R N The original warehouse had a tiny, dark and very narrow staircase located at the back of the block. In our new layout we created two light filled spaces that will be home to two generously portioned staircases. To be in balance with the huge scale of the warehouse surrounds and the large floor to floor height of 4m, the new staircases needed to match the grandeur of the building. We wanted the overall look to be timber to bring a natural element to the indus...trial building, with such great spans we couldnt achieve the look we were after in timber alone. For structural strength we designed laser cut steel staircase stringers which will soon be cladded in beautiful 300 year European oak. 11.01.2022 R E D F E R N These steel pelmets were designed to fill the small void between the exposed brick and the roof as well as enclose the eternal box guttering. We designed these custom steel pelmets to integrate with the steel panelling we used to strengthen the trusses. We selected steel instead of using plaster board or timber to ensure it was in keeping with the industrial nature of the building. 05.01.2022 R E D F E R N The roof was in desperate need of repair so we removed the old roof structure and restored the trusses back to original condition. These trusses are over 100 years old and made from oregon. In their current condition they wouldnt have been strong enough to hold the new roof. It was important to us to keep the original trusses, so rather than replacing them we reengineered their strength capability to ensure they could withstand the weight of the new roof structure. 04.01.2022 R E D F E R N Seamlessly holding its own weight the rear warehouse staircase elegantly unfolds and concertinas in 3 stages connecting the upstairs kitchen to the ground floor. The internal steel inside the cladded stringers has been engineered in such a way that it can hold its own weight and sits as if its almost floating independently off the wall. Working with an old building with uneven brickwork, as well as the 300 year old reclaimed European oak with all its irregula...rities and character meant our team carefully selected each piece for colour and character, then cut, hand shaped, and fit each tread in place. Our in-house joinery team have loved designing and crafting all the joinery details of this staircase. Now that the rear staircase is done, its time for the front staircase! We designed an elegant 4m bench top for each en-suite that effortlessly balances against the rumbled edged limestone tiles. The weathered bass tap ware, earthly tones and texture of the tiles and the 300 year old oak timber blend beautifully together.
