25.01.2022 Another program of Vedam Chanting Classes will begin in January. Classes will be held via zoom and are open to any age from children to our senior citizens. The Hindu Society of South Australia will continue to offer these classes due to continuing demand and interest. Mr Raghuram who runs the free chanting classes represents the Vedic and Cultural Centre of Australia.

16.01.2022 The state government has further relaxed COVID-19 restrictions from 29th June 2020. Accordingly, Shri Ganesha Temple is opening for more people. But please watc...h for more announcements should COVID19 conditions change. Please do not visit the Temple if you are feeling unwell or have other symptoms. Please keep our community safe. Please maintain social distancing and hand washing/sanitiser practices at all times. We can now accommodate: * 1 person per 2 square meters * Max of 80 people Also: the Temple will open for longer hours so that more devotees can visit the temple. The new temple opening hours are: Monday to Friday 7 8:30 am 6 - 8:30 pm Saturday 7 9:30 am 6 - 8:30 pm Sunday 7 1:00 pm 6 - 8:30 pm Please note that devotees wishing to perform a special pooja/havan outside of these hours can contact our Chief Priest Sri Skandarajah Kurukkal in advance on 0408893075. If you would like a prayer to be performed on your behalf the pooja can be streamed live if you can't attend in person. Please contact our Chief Priest at the above number. Vedic and Cultural Centre of Australia cordially invites you for its first Lalitha Sahasranaama Laksharchana to be held at the Hindu Community Cultural Hall attached to Shri Ganesha Temple, Oaklands Park on Saturday, 19th Oct 2019 from 9 AM to 11:30 AM. Lalita Sahasranaama is a text from Brahmanda Purana containing 1000 names of the Divine Mother (Shakti) or Goddess Durga, known as Lalitha Devi and is also used in the worship of Parvati, Kali, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Bhagavati. During the Pooja, devotees will do Archana reciting the 1000 names of the Divine Mother. Attached is the flyer with program details. 10.01.2022 VEDAS AND SHLOKAS CHANTING CLASSES Weekly Vedas and Shlokas chanting classes from mid-June 2020. When: Saturday morning from 9 am to 10 am ... Where: Community Cultural Centre in the Ganesh Temple Complex, 5 Dwyer Road, Oaklands Park Registration: [email protected] / phone - 0406 022 404 Subject to the COVID-19 restrictions, the number of students present in the classroom will be limited in accordance to the government rules. Those who cannot be present at the premises may join online on Zoom. The tradition of Vedic chanting is proclaimed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of human society. The classes are open for all age groups. Classes must be attended regularly except for health reasons or other unavoidable circumstances. After every class, audio files will be provided for chanting practice. Texts in Sanskrit and English will be provided. Regular practice is expected from students. To register, please send an email/whatsapp/text message with your full name and names of family members who wish to join to [email protected] / phone - 0406 022 404 The initial lessons will cover a number of Shanthi Mantras and Sukthams primarily from Rig and Yajur Veda Shaakhaas as well as shlokas composed by our Rishis and Acharyas. 08.01.2022 The Hindu Society of South Australia is supporting Vinnies in the BankSA Sleep Out Program. Last year Vinnies used money raised through this program to set up a women's crisis accommodation facility in Adelaide's north. Women are at greater risk of homelessness and young children are also exposed due to this this. Our President, Usha Rajagopalan is raising money for this good cause. Usually in the Sleep Out program, participants rug up for the night in a public park. This yea...r, to adhere to the COVID restrictions, Usha will sleep in her car on the night of 12th June to raise funds for this great cause and to help one of the most vulnerable groups in our community. Please consider making a donation. It does not matter how big or small because every bit helps. The whole community is invited to this Harmony Week event at the Shri Ganesha Temple Adelaide. All are welcome and entry is FREE.... Held on Saturday 20 March, from 3pm to 5pm, this is a special opportunity to step inside Shri Ganesha Temple and learn about its history, beautiful art, architecture and the Hindu faith. During the afternoon there is a tour of the temple, enlightening guest speakers discussing art, architecture and the Hindu faith, and a dance performance. There will also be a screening of a short video about the history of the Temple. All are invited to discover this unique cultural landmark in Marion. Again, Mr Srirama Srinivasan has kindly agreed to donate his time to start the weekly classes on: Sundays 10:30 AM from 31st May 2020 Please register with Srirama Srinivasan... Phone: +61 450 375 631 Email: [email protected] Zoom meeting invitation will be provided upon registration Fee $20 for 10 lessons to be paid in advance The main objectives of are: 1 To learn the letters (vowel, consonants) in Devanagari 2 To identify, read and write the words in Sanskrit 3 To read the Vedic hymns from Sanskrit textbook The classes won't cover the following at this stage 1 Grammar or meaning of the Vedic hymns 2 Spoken skills won't be covered. The classes are open for all from age 8 years and above. Adults are also most welcome to join the classes. Classes must be attended regularly except for health or other unavoidable circumstances. The classes will be for 45 minutes. Homework and practical research work are expected to be completed from students on time. Parents must provide approval, in writing, for their children to attend the classes.
