05.01.2022 IS COVID-19 FOUND IN HUMAN TEARS? As a clinical Optometrist, Im monitoring all recent eye health reports on the virus. The good news is that the COVID-19 virus has not been found in tears unless sufferers arrived with red-eye conjunctivitis. This means that if your eyes look and feel healthy, you can safely continue to wear your contact lenses. Of course, hygienic handwashing before touching your contact lenses is now more crucial. Every time, please! ... Because the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting normal supply, even future supply of contact lenses cant be guaranteed. 05.01.2022 Tips for safe use of contact lenses during the time of COVID-19 Contact lenses can be safely worn on healthy eyes, but dont touch your lenses or eyes with contaminated fingers! We humans touch skin and so many surfaces every day.... The safest method every day is to: - Insert your lenses straight after the shower because you will have already washed both your face and EYELID/ EYELASH line with cleanser (Not just water please) and your hands. - Its important to dry off any water droplets with a clean towel. There are about 800 species of bacteria in water so never rinse your lens in water either! - Insert your lenses immediately before touching any lotions or potions. - Wash and dry your hands and fingertips before removing your contact lenses. - Thoughtfully dispose of your lenses in the bin not down the toilet, please. #HineSight
