25.01.2022 What a weekend! We thought we’d dodged it Saturday afternoon with just a small amount of hail.. but Saturday evening told us otherwise! About 5 trees down but no real damage thank goodness , no power til this morning some time, communications cut til now, laden peach and plum trees looking like they are upside down but actually only a few limbs broken .. but guess what! Hardly any damage to the Feijoas .. they are so hardy! Some flowers off but lots still on and no trees down! Phew! Thank goodness for a chainsaw and generator, and thinking about all the people who copped the giant hail #hinterlandfeijoas #feijoas #stormseason #farmlife

18.01.2022 No introduction needed .. hello blueberry season! Mind you we are still picking peaches and nectarines and soon the plums will be ready! This is the first year we’ve really had time to look after our home orchard and boy is it nice to reap these rewards . 17.01.2022 This weekend was sheep vaccination weekend .. which may not sound hard with a tiny flock but without yards is actually quite a challenge! I’ve still got a knack of catching them after years of working in the sheep yards with my Dad, but Pete is totally new to the unique psyche of the sheep and how darn strong and fast they suddenly are . When I stopped laughing hard at the misses on the stable floor and concentrated on the job at hand we got the 14 sheep and 2 mini goats done in about 2 hours .. next year less laughing .. perhaps #hinterlandfeijoas #smallfarming #sheep #needsomeyards!

16.01.2022 Just in case you missed the notice .. a reminder that we are not meeting for quilting this month cause I double booked myself (Sat 5th) but don’t stop creating! This quilt is nearly finished and it’s going to be a surprise for my younger brother stuck in Tassie and missing out on seeing family like so many of us It’s all about the birds and the trees and includes bits from his nephews and grand-nephews quilts, plus Petes quilt! 15.01.2022 We have a rainbow of climbing beans feeding us at the moment.. scarlet runners about to set, purple beans that cook up green , and blue lake beans that are actually green . It’s our first try of scarlet runners .. can’t believe the flower colour! Will they be bright red beans too? I have heard so many of my kiwi customers talking about these ! 13.01.2022 I thought my days of being tubby-tubby girl were over, but alas we decided to move some nets, so tubby-tubby is back in action One of the many disadvantages of being a short-stuff. 13.01.2022 Winter becomes spring becomes summer in the blink of an eye here... so we are actually a bit behind schedule prepping some spring /summer vege beds .. but who’s counting! Better late than never, and we are still harvesting the end of the winter crops of sugar snaps,broccoli, kale and spinach, plus a mountain of pumpkins and sweet potatoes so no need to panic and go to a shop yet . 11.01.2022 It’s just starting to warm up here and feel like spring, so I’m hoping we don’t just skip straight into summer cause I love these wispy warm spring days. 08.01.2022 What’s everyone up to for the New Year? I managed to finish a quilt for Pete’s mum Margaret. She loves pink and flowers and birds .. so pretty sure I hit the brief . Keeping my tradition of using at least one fabric from a past quilt to connect family this one has some material from my first ever quilt... For my precious firstborn Gracie, who’ll be 28 tomorrow!
