25.01.2022 It gives us pleasure to introduce our fourth of the six lucky Hip Hop Bounce students, Imogen Cadd, who were invited to The Australian Ballet Virtual Mentoring Program. Imogen was lucky enough to be mentored by Valerie Tereshchenko. Valerie joined The Australian Ballet in 2009. She was promoted to coryphe in 2015, soloist in 2017 and senior artist in 2018. Imogen found Valerie to be an inspirational mentor who was not only able to communicate with her as a teacher but als...o on a more personable level, really supporting her and her feelings for ballet and dance in general. Imogen found the hardest part of the sessions was initially communicating with and dancing for someone she didnt know. Valerie and Imogen had conversations about ballet, performance anxiety, favourite costumes, pointe shoes, dancing in isolation and training hours. Valerie helped Imogen with her turn technique and spent time explaining how turns should feel and how to best practice them. She also conveyed to Imogen the importance of connecting with your audience by showing them your whole face when performing, a skill she finds hard, but is a goal she will be working on this year.
