24.01.2022 An epic day with legends out on the Walrus had a typical dawny start with a light troll through some baiters in close before heading out to the shelf off Hippolyte rocks. A few hours of entertaining but unsuccessful swordy rig drops and loosing a coupla bottom bomb rigs dropped the previously chirpy morale to a dutiful "wtf no bites on the shelf at all!! But plenty of day left...". The lures were back in and the slow bumpy troll in a freshening sou'wester back towards Hippoly...te Rocks with not a bird in the sky sent morale into an all time low with barely a chirp outta the boys the whole way back. Hippolyte rocks were a hive of activity with seals, birds, and bait schools with mackerel schools pumping along with the 5 or so other trolling game fishing boats out vying for position. Morale ebbed and waned as mackerel were caught by the tail on spinners and the zero strike rate continued - but we weren't alone there. Fuel was getting low and with daylight on the way out, we were close to calling it even though bait boils were still frothing... until a few Tuna barrels started jumping - oh, she on boys! But after an hour, no boats had any strikes - wtf, tuna not hungry?! Big splashes! Ah just Dolphins, and heaps of them. But wait that fin is more like... Tuna!! And there's a big school getting pushed in by the dolphins. There's three other boats but we're in prime position and whzzzzzz - fish on boys and it's a big bastard that's for sure!! It smashed the Hippolyte lure from the long corner. The Hippo go to lure dressed with Yo-Zuri glow skirts with blue stripes and one vertical red line. I'm first to the rod, jam the butt in my groin hard and hold on as the line is going out hard - so this is what a big fish feels like... the boys are hooting, cracking tinnies, and giving me technique tips whilst the other boats are holding their hand on their heads, spewing. Morale and chirp was high and round 1 of the fight was on! He went deep and hard first up then I gained heaps as he rose a bit later then settled in for a spinning session under the boat with plenty of hurt on both sides but bugger all gain either way. We were defiantly staring darkness in the face and there was concern on fuel but another boat hung around to make sure we and our jumbo got home safely. The fish came up once and it was in easy reach to gaff. We got one secure gaff in and we knew we had it, so we thought. We worked hard trying to lift the fish into the boat, with not much luck. Big cheers to the boys in the boat who stuck around to help out, one jumped ship and helped bring it in to the tinnie. Some great banter from the boys paying out on our shit gaff! My first southern blue fin tuna weighed in at 118kg and Hippolyte lures first jumbo on the 2018 season! Going to be a great year! Words by Lincoln Quilliam. See more

22.01.2022 A good weekend away at Eaglehawk Neck. Some nice crays and a feed of abalone. We had a quick fish in the bay with no luck and returned to the boat ramp ready to call it for the day. Spoke to a legend at the boat ramp who mentioned some Blue fin Tuna had been seen out at the Hippolyte rocks. We headed back out in rough windy and wet conditions. Moral was high and once we found the birds diving and saw fish busting up and sure enough we hooked up. The Hippo lure was first followed by the Nugget. With two SBT on deck and on ice we were done and cruised back to EagleHawk.

18.01.2022 A local commercial fisherman Lochie Hardwick sent me this picture of his epic catch that he caught on a spin outfit, 91kg gilled and gutted. Caught on the "Hippo" lure with double lumo skirts. Great to see local commercial fisherman supporting local fishing shops and local lure companies. Lochie and team are selling fresh tuna from the Margate wharf, check out Jedsea Fishing co. on facebook for selling times.

17.01.2022 This prototype lure accounted for five out of seven fish, safe to say its a winner! Thanks @shaunkumphotos for running the lure and epic shot. Legend!

14.01.2022 Number two in the Hippo lure head core range. Not actually a top pour with this lure. Stoked with the result! Yeeeeiw The inside of these Yo-Zuri skirts are covered with sparkly silver glitter. If the purple on the bottom of the skirts was a little more silver and blue it would be a red bait dead ringer.

12.01.2022 Introducing the Lipstick prototype.
