25.01.2022 Renovation Fail or Success? 2 examples of a renovation fail, and these fails we want to avoid right? But, to avoid any failure or mistake when we renovate can be as simple as PLANNING. Easy things like:... Is this a load bearing wall and can I put a door in there? If I put the stove here will the door open without hitting the cupboard? Will the fridge fit in the spot we built for it and is there a power point? Have we got room for the heater ducts under the floor or in the roof? These are some of the questions you should be asking to ensure your renovation is a success and not a fail. Planning your project out will make things work more smoothly. Below are a few examples of how to start. The biggest favour you can do yourselves is to seek professional advice. If you have a contact all is good, if you dont you may need to pay somebody to assist you. I see that as money well spent and could save you $$$$ associated with mistakes in the long run. 1) Assess your home, list the great things about it you will never change and then list the bits you hate. Plan your renovation so the changes will fit with what you want to keep. 2) Finance, do your costing and make sure you have enough money to finish. 3) List your goals and make a list of priorities. Unless there is an endless supply of funds renovations may have to be done in stages. Plan those stages in order of importance and bear in mind that you still have to live there. 4) Get advice on what is possible from somebody that is qualified. 5) Draw up your plans and follow them. 6) Permits, find out if you need permits for your changes and if you do, secure them. Remember illegal renovations can cost you dearly further down the track. 7) Choose a builder or do it yourself. If using a builder, ensure he is licenced. View some of his other work and get recommendations if possible. 8) Choose to live in or leave. If you stay during the renovations remember that it will be messy and dusty and it will disrupt the day to day running of your house. If you have small children can you keep them safe? If you choose to leave and live elsewhere while the renovations are going on, keep in mind that they may take longer than previously thought. 9) Finish the job. Especially for those making it a DIY project, it is important that you keep going till completion. Living in a half finished renovation can be stressful. Make sure you have the time and funds to complete the renovation, then just sit back and enjoy.

19.01.2022 People have asked us why we have moved to the Vermeer Loader in favour of the other brands? The answer is quite simple! They are better. In the last 2 years of operating these machines in our fleet they have proven themselves as a strong performer with reliability. With the option of Tyres or full time Tracks quite frankly they put their opposition to shame. The ergonomics of the controls and the single Joystick control has increased operator comfort and reduced fatigue assoc...iated with the use of this type of equipment. It doesnt end there because there are built in safety features all designed to help keep you safe, one in particular is the soft stop feature that brings the machine to a complete stop slowly. This is best noticed if you release your drive function suddenly, no longer will you be thrown to the front of the machine, a problem common with other brands. The Vermeer Loader is a capable worker, easily able to mix it up on most applications. With the increased weight and the addition of a Diesel Engine there is not much this little power house cant do. You know what the best part is? IT IS SO EASY TO USE! No longer will you have to struggle with a Pick and Shovel. Forget loading and unloading a Wheel Barrow. Scrapping an area in preparation for paving, laying a new lawn or sculpting a new driveway or path, now the power is at your fingertips. PSSST! This is just for the guys. Its a whole load of fun too. You get to play on it all day and your in the good books because of all the work you have done. (TIP: you have to pretend it is hard work) With a range of attachments available there is not much you cant achieve. Designed with the multitasker in mind. The addition of the S650TX mini skid steer to the Vermeer lineup offers do-it-yourselfers and contractors a versatile solution to their construction and landscaping needs. The unit is equipped with a four pump system for both hydraulic and overall machine performance allowing operators to power attachments effectively and save time on the jobsite. For those tough, heavy jobs, the S650TX showcases a rated operating capacity of 660 lb (299.4 kg) and a tipping capacity of 1890 lb (857.3 kg).

18.01.2022 Hi everyone, well summer is definitely on its way and according to the experts we may have a long dry one. I am sure I am not the only one who watched plants dry out and die last year from the prolonged heat and lack of water. These days plants are quite expensive to buy and take years to mature. We feed, water and prune them and some even talk to them and we all take pride in how they look and how your garden looks. But, then hits the heat and we can not protect our loved p...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Tax Return Time??? To make your return go further we are going to give away to 1 lucky Facebook friend a $200.00 hire voucher. Good Luck!

17.01.2022 New to our range is the Red Roo Chipper. This Chipper is easily able to do wood and cuttings up to 150mm (6") in diameter. Feed in rollers take the work out of using this unit. Once the wood is being fed in, you can head for your next bit. Intelligent programing of the feed in roller means overload of the engine and consequent stalling is virtually impossible. This Chipper is full featured in terms of safety. The safety bar that surrounds the feed in chute automatically reverses feed in roller when it is pushed on as well as emergency stop buttons on both sides. This Chipper is only suitable for use with green wood.

16.01.2022 Well hasnt it got so cold? You could be forgiven for thinking you lived in the first picture, with snow and ice. Then there is the wind that Melbourne is dishing out to us at the moment. Melbourne can certainly serve us up some nasty weather at times but we still love her. If youre anything like me, over the weekend as soon as the rain stops falling, we rug up and outside we go to attack the never ending jobs waiting to be attended to. As depressing as it seems we quietly e...at away at them every chance we get and notice that the list is getting smaller to spite the bad weather. With tax return time upon us once more, we eagerly look forward to that little extra injection of funds and most of us spend it on our biggest asset, our house. Well as much as a weekend away or a holiday somewhere warm looks good, reality drags us back to spending it on the house. I know it does make sense as it is the largest investment most of us ever make. So to help you along we are going to give away this month a $200.oo Hire Voucher. Everyone on our like list will be in the draw and 1 lucky person will be randomly selected. As always refer to our conditions of use in an earlier post right here on Facebook. Good Luck! See more

15.01.2022 SAFETY!!! Who really thinks about it? We sure do at work, but when we step into the protected world of our homes, do we pay much attention to it there? Thousands of people every year are admitted to emergency rooms across our hospital system with injuries sustained doing simple tasks at home. They range from simple cuts, fractures, bruising, sprains, strains to more serious things like compound fractures. Unfortunately, it can be much worse! With Spring just around the corner...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Well summer is fast approaching and with it comes fun in the sun, beach, BBQs and numerous social events with friends. But, it also brings with it, danger. None more frightening then the prospect of a bush fire. We continue to build our dream homes amongst the trees, most of us do it because we love it there. We know very well the risk is there, but our love of the bush, the solitude and peacefulness it brings, outweighs the risk.... We must not, however, become complacent. We must not forget that mother nature has her own way of reminding us just who is boss. We have witnessed her fury and some of us have experienced it first hand. But fire is not always the total destroyer. We can plan and prepare for survival. Now is the time! You must prepare your property to give it the best chance of surviving a fire. Too many leave preparation until its too late. My advice is CLEAN UP NOW! Make your evacuation plan, practice it and abide by it. The best way to survive a fire is not be there. Remember that your house, although precious, can be replaced. You can not! For the things that cant be replaced, Photos and important papers ETC, have them stored all together in a container that can be easily picked up and put in the car. When preparing your property and if a tree has to be removed, your local council may not make it easy for you to do that. Remember that the State Government introduced the 10/30 rule to assist home owners in bush fire prone areas to prepare. Not all Councils are covered under this rule so check first before you go clearing trees. Below is a the best site for info on the 10/30 Rule(10/50) http://www.dpcd.vic.gov.au//bushfire-/vegetationmanagement The following website address for the CFA will give you advice on how to properly prepare yourselves and your property to give you the best chance of surviving bushfire. Prepare now, dont wait until its too late. http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/

04.01.2022 Hi everyone, Wouldnt we all like a pond like these in our gardens? Would be nice but the fact is we mostly settle for something a little less grand. But, nevertheless, we love our water gardens and get an enormous amount of joy from then. However, they do need to be maintained and we are getting very close to the time that we need to do that. Here are a couple of tips to get you going.... Remove leaf litter from a pond, especially if you have fish. Decomposing leaves can have an adverse effect on water quality. Turn off the pump to make it easier to collect the leaves. While removing the leaves, you can also scoop out algae that may have formed. Do not over clean. Algae is very beneficial to your pond and will help kick start it if you needed to drain it and refill. Remember we have a little ecosystem going on here and Algae is an important part of that. Clean the pre-filter on the bottom of your pump. If you are using a Bio Filter this should also be cleaned. Most Bio-Filters need only to be cleaned once a year. Make sure you do not use Chlorinated water to clean these filters as this will kill off the beneficial bacteria, I use rainwater. Check your hoses for leaks and inspect that any electrical leads running to the pump have not been damaged. When youre finished, turn the pump back on and check that the water is still running down your water feature correctly, this is a common source of water loss. If weeds have sprouted in the path that surrounds the water feature, remove them by hoeing or pulling. Never use herbicides near a pond, especially if it contains fish, because nearly all herbicides are toxic to fish. They may also destroy aquatic plants in and around the pond. Wait to remove or transplant overgrown or misplaced plants in or around the pond until the temperatures are warmer. Late winter is not an ideal time to transplant herbaceous plants, and the water may be too cold. As temperatures begin to rise controlling that Algae can be a chore. 1 tip I learnt a few years ago was to use a filter with UV light to kill off the Algae. UV Filters are not the end all and be all for Algae control and with Spring out breaks they can actually make it worse. Remember there are different types of Algae. In Spring you may have to help with the use of an Algaecide. You should also have about 60% of the surface of the water covered and have other water plants that compete with the Algae for nutrients in the water. If you are in a shady spot that is probably ok, but if in the open, water plants such as Water Lilies can help. Of course there is always a negative and with this one it is harder to see your fish. We can go on with much more information here but there is plenty of info on the net. Good luck!

03.01.2022 Not a Hero The ANZAC Day march was over - the old Digger had done his best. His body ached from marching - it was time to sit and rest. He made his way to a park bench and sat with lowered head.... A young boy passing saw him - approached and politely said, "Please sir do you mind if I ask you what the medals you wear are for? Did you get them for being a hero, when fighting in a war?" Startled, the old Digger moved over and beckoned the boy to sit. Eagerly the lad accepted - he had not expected this! "First of all I was not a hero," said the old Digger in solemn tone, "But I served with many heroes, the ones that never came home. So when you talk of heroes, its important to understand, The greatest of all heroes gave their lives defending this land. "The medals are worn in their honour, as a symbol of respect. All diggers wear them on ANZAC Day - it shows they dont forget." The old digger then climbed to his feet and asked the boy to stand. Carefully he removed the medals and placed them in his hand. He told him he could keep them - to treasure throughout his life, A legacy of a kind - left behind - paid for in sacrifice. Overwhelmed the young boy was speechless - he couldnt find words to say. It was there the old Digger left him - going quietly on his way. In the distance the young boy glimpsed him - saw him turn and wave goodbye. Saddened he sat alone on the bench - tears welled in his eyes. He never again saw him ever - but still remembers with pride, When the old Digger told him of Heroes and a young boy sat and cried. Clyde Hamilton "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."

03.01.2022 Blocked Drain? This raises some questions about what you should do when the inevitable happens to you. I know, you have seen it all before, you watched your neighbour wrestle the very same problem pushing the garden hose up the drain and 3 hours later phone call to the plumber. Now, you know he cant make it till Tuesday! You have 2 options: 3 days with no shower and lots of crossed legs or go stay in a motel. Neither is high on my list of priorities.... So is there a third option? Well yes there is but before you go running off to your hire shop, you need some information. There are various machines designed to clear drains and all of these are used by your plumber and in most cases will remedy your issue. In some cases he will have to dig up the offending pipe and replace it, but lets not write any open cheques yet. You need some basic information to assist with the correct choice of Drain Cleaner. What you need to establish is: Type of drain to be cleaned Do you have access to an opening? How far down is the blockage? What is blocking it? Is your pipe damaged, broken or crushed? You may be lucky and be able to fix this problem with a sink cleaner or manual Drain Rods or you may need Electric Drain Cleaner to remove roots or even a Water Jet Drain Machine. The basic operation of all of these units are pretty simple once you understand the machine and exactly what issue you are facing in your pipe. You also need an understanding of what can go wrong. If you have this problem develop in the future and decide to tackle it, arm yourself with as much information about the problem before your trip to hire a machine. With all this info we can assist you in correct choice of equipment to help achieve a successful outcome.

03.01.2022 Stump Removal? Who wants to do it really? Well for many reasons we will, from time to time, be faced with the prospects of having to take out a stump. There are a few methods to do this including chemical stump removal, digging it out, burning it out, leaving it to rot over time or grinding them away. Chemical Stump removal has been used around the world but is not really used all that much here in Australia, Some issues such as having to keep children and animals away while... the process is happening makes this option somewhat difficult. Digging the stump out is one of those jobs that can be easy or not so, depending on the type of tree stump to be removed. It usually involves lots of digging and levering, and if you have a tap root, more digging to get access to that so it can be cut. Burning them out is a bit hit and miss and during summer this isnt a great option. If the stump can be left there it will rot away over time, but that is usually a long time. That leaves the grinding option. This method is easier on your body and the fastest way to remove the offending stump. It is generally suggested that grinding to approx. 300mm under the surface is optimal. There are various types of stump grinder available for hire. We carry 2 types of Red Roo grinder, both very effective with the larger self drive designed for larger jobs and multiple stumps. 01.01.2022 SPRING!!! "Spring is the season of new beginnings. Fresh buds bloom and animals awaken and the earth seems to come to life again. Farmers and gardeners plant their seeds, and temperatures slowly rise. Changes vary depending upon location, as most equatorial regions see fairly constant temperatures throughout the year. What most people call spring relies on the astronomical definition of the word, the period between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Defined by the an...gle of Earths tilt toward the sun, astronomical spring relies on equinoxes and solstices to define it." Well thats what the book says, but to us it comes with a different meaning and it signals the time that we wake from our winter hibernation. A time to get out and about with family and friends. It tells us that Summer is around the corner. A time to lever the children away from the computer and reacquaint them with the beauty of nature. A time to bask in the warm sunshine and enjoy the freedom that comes with this season. Picnics in one of the numerous parks and botanical gardens scattered around our city or simply taking the kids and dog out to throw the ball. The ways to celebrate this truly amazing time of year is limited only to your imagination. But, it also heralds the need to attend to your house and garden, to clean and repair the toll that winter has taken on your pride and joy. Dig and weed before Summer hardens the earth. Mulch and put in new garden beds. Landscape that dead area of your yard. Build a Water Feature. Liven up that tired old BBQ area and re-stain the deck. Clean out the gutters, paint and prepare for the hotter months to follow. Then sit back and enjoy. "Lifes not the breathes you take, but the moments that take your breath away"
