08.01.2022 It's all happening at the historic community of Witta this Saturday September 15th! Wittafest where the community of Witta will gather at this lovely festival t...o honour their unique pioneering history. Open from 10.00 am, entry is FREE! Experience guided tours of the area and some festive local music. Scenes and vestiges of the original settlement - Teutoberg, the former Witta, will be captured and on display, including antique cars, old cultivating tools, maps and costumes. There's fun and games for the kids - sack race, marbles, horse she throw and more, homemade food, locally brewed craft German beers for tasting - and of course, delicious German sausage and sauerkraut. Or pose for your family portrait, dressed in the old-fashioned garb of a bygone era. A guided tour of the cemetery, an original reminder of ‘Teutoburg', memorialising the first German settlers, is bound to be popular, and the Witta Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be open for visitors. This year's festival moves toward a "fair" theme with local community groups participating with a range of stalls. The event is free, providing fun for the kids and family, and is a great opportunity to learn about Witta's interesting, industrious history. German settlers arrived in the area in the late 1870's and cultivated the land, establishing their first crops and farming stock. Through hard manual labour, they built the foundations of a place to call home. The town was originally named Teutoburg by the German settlers, and in 1916 it was renamed Witta. Come and find out how the Witta area was settled and by whom! Witta a small, hidden gem of a town characterised by lush green vistas and a peaceful atmosphere Wittafest is preserving and celebrating the history of a small yet thriving present day community. The excellent once a month Witta Market will also be in full swing on Saturday from 7.00 am to 12 midday. Witta will definitely be the place to be!
