11.01.2022 Hi All, Want to inform that although my name appears on the facebook page, it is NOT my personal page but that of the Historical Society of Mareeba page. And as we are not only a SELF-FUNDED, not-for-profit organisation but we are also non-political and non-sectarian, so there fore we can't like, approve of, or endorse any political party at any time, even if some standing are our members. I'm posting this for understanding. As individuals, any member can post what they like on their own pages long as the Society's name is not mentioned. Wish everyone success in the coming months. Cheers, Helen Kindt (Hon Sec)

05.01.2022 Just wanted to show off a bit. This handsome male is my nephew. He was at the Pentagon 9/11 when the plane crashed through it. Luckily he was on the opposite side so was not harmed.

03.01.2022 Sad, hols are OVER! First Mareeba Market Day over as well, wood fired pizza man perfumed the place, yum pizzas. Cleared our donation box recently, as you know we are a SELF -FUNDED organisation and rely on people donating , at least a gold coin, to receive a personal 'walk-around' our Rooms. Nearly had a heart attack, (thought it was a $100 note) then had to laugh, glad I do have a sense of humour though it's eroding fast. Wonder if the bank will honour it! Shall I try?

02.01.2022 ANZAC DAY. To all those who have been involved in conflict, we are thinking, praying for you this day. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts not only on this special day and also every day. There are too, too many names to list but each and everyone is remembered in our hearts. You did what you had to so generations later can live free and without fear, in safety. Love to you all.Thank you so much. WE. WILL REMEMBER!

02.01.2022 Lots of people to thank! Bear with me, I'm having a LONG drawn-out dialogue with a telco. Practically tearing my hair out. Maybe it will be resolved before Christmas? I'll sigh with relief if it does happens. So, Many thanks to all who 'Liked' our page and what the Society is doing. It is not hard work as in digging ditches, but it can be hard when researching. Please get back to me via the Email addy, at least that comes through. [email protected] Thank you Dunca...n Rae. Do you realise the Society holds the burial records of our local cemetries plus the Monumental Inscriptions, That part took a few of the members visiting every cemetery in the Shire, voice taping them, then transcribing, then going back to check that it was all correct. Lots of work and throughly enjoyable. The Honour Roll at Costin Street Pioneer Cemetery took 4 members nearly 4 years to research. We looked in every record we could find, so we had a complete list. That list , in the rotunda is to honour every one in the cemetery whether a head stone was available not not. Plot numbers were put through a database, turned up side down, back to front but little made sense. This cemetery is an old one, so let's keep the age, tidy it up a little, right the headstones that are leaning and fill in those graves that have subsided. Again that is age. Clean headstones correctly so they will be around in the next 100 years. Stay tuned for the next episode from the Historical Society of Mareeba, and remember we do need your support both physical and money wise. Take care and stay safe. Helen Kindt (Hon Sec)
