25.01.2022 'Local residents are pushing for heritage protection of a house in Melbourne’s Hampton set to be featured on next year’s season of reality renovation TV show The Block. The house at 8 Bronte Court was designed by renowned Melbourne architect Neil Clerehan as part of the Small Homes Service a program that allowed members of the public to buy affordable off-the-shelf plans for architecturally designed homes and have them built... ...And, the design is rare, as it was only off...ered to the public for a limited time and few similar examples were sold.' https://www.domain.com.au//the-block-2021-heritage-protec/

25.01.2022 Many of us are using the COVID-19 border restrictions as an opportunity to explore our own backyards! Did you know that between 1926 and 1949 Hans Heysen did ex...actly that with eleven adventures to the Flinders Ranges? For later trips he was driven by his son David in a 1928 A20 Model Ford towing this custom-built 1931 camper-trailer their shelter whilst he explored the remarkable valleys and peaks and filled his folio and sketchbooks with drawings and watercolours. Once back home in his studio, he transposed this material into oil and watercolour paintings that have become treasures in numerous public and private collections. Make The Cedars a destination on one of your adventures and see the Model A Ford and remarkable poptop caravan on show in the garage, as well as some of Heysen's original Flinders Ranges pictures. 24.01.2022 HUNDREDS MARCH IN PROTEST AT GOVERNMENT PLANS FOR PARRA MUSEUM Hundreds of residents, combined with a strong presence from the CFMEU today marched in Parramat...ta CBD in support of the retention of heritage house Willow Grove. The group marched from Parramatta Park to Phillip Street in an approved protest march which saw streets closed to allow the participants unfettered access. Residents from two to eighty years old turned out to show their support for the 19th Century Italianate two-storey manor. Local and CFMEU speakers addressed the enthusiastic group, each calling for the Berejiklian Government to abandon a scheme to move a facsimile of the manor to North Parramatta, thus retaining it in its current position.

22.01.2022 Dyarubbin: The Real Secret River Wednesday 11 November 2020, 6.30pm - 8.00pm Online event... Free For Members $10 Non-members In 2017, historian Grace Karskens stumbled across an astonishing document in the Mitchell Library: a list of over 170 long-lost Aboriginal names for places on Dyarubbin, the Hawkesbury River. The list was compiled early in 1829 by a young Presbyterian minister, the Reverend John McGarvie, incumbent at Pitt Town. Not only did he carefully record the names given to him by Aboriginal informants, in many cases he included locations. Almost 100 of these names have been relocated and mapped through a collaborative project, Dyarubbin: The Real Secret River, funded by the State Library of New South Wales’ Coral Thomas Fellowship. Bit by bit, these names are revealing lost geographies of river forests, plants and animals, zones of saltwater and fresh, men’s, women’s and ceremonial places, and areas of profound sacred significance. Please join us for a fascinating webinar session, as Darug team members Leanne Watson and Erin Wilkins join historian Grace Karskens in a discussion of this significant project. 20.01.2022 HERITAGE FIGHT ROLLS ON The fight is still very much alive for Willow Grove as Suzette Meade outlines in this Parra News article. We’ve pushed hard for our heri...tage and it will be a great win for our community advocacy if St George’s Terrace is saved, but it must be more than the facade and incorporated into the new building design as a functional building if it is to be truly protected. 19.01.2022 Fascinating discovery and history from Property Network member Kilgour in Longford, Tasmania. @kilgour_tasmania Kilgour, Archer Street, Longford... While walking Luna yesterday I discovered in the grounds of Christ Church, Longford, the graves of the two Thomas Ritchies. I had thought they were buried elsewhere. Thomas Ritchie (2nd) purchased ‘Kilgour’ in Dec 1863 and died in Dec 1894. The house then passed to his son, Thomas Ritchie (3rd) who lived here until his death in 1934 when he passed the house to his house keeper, Beatrice Scully who lived here until 1969. #longfordtasmania #historytasmania #historictasmania #historichomestasmania #countryhouse #countryhousestyle #countrycottagestyle #countrycottage #historicaustralia #midlandstasmania #historic_houses_australia #historichomes #countryinterior #countrystyleaustralia #prettyoldhouse #aus_regional_architecture #australianarchitecture #australian_built_heritage #heritageaustralia #tasmania #georgianarchitecture #heritagehouse #MyHistoricHomeHHA #countryhomestyle #georgianrestoration #cottagegarden #houserestoration

16.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS - RESTRICTIONS TO BUILD ON WILLOWGROVE REMOVED FOR THE STATE GOVERNMENT. Protections preventing redevelopment of historic Willow Grove were quiet...ly removed last year paving the way for the building to be demolished for the Parramatta Powerhouse. Former Sydney Lord Mayor Jeremy Bingham, a lawyer specialising in local government law, described the removal of the restrictive covenant on the land in April 2019, which left the historic building and its grounds unprotected, as immoral and an act of "sheer bastardry".
