15.01.2022 We encourage the horse to explore through pressure and seek relief in a desired response. The timing and means of both (pressure & relief) have everything to do with the horses' frame of mind and ultimately the retention of any intended outcome.

13.01.2022 I always work my #horses from the ground before any ride no matter how broke I figure they might be. It’s a good way to check out where the horse is at on any given day and a means to avoid a wreck on those days when something’s a little off. I’m equally as careful to make sure this pre-ride ritual carries meaning and has some basis in my ridden work. Too often people use this time to try to run the life out of the horse not aware they’re creating a real problem; a horse with little control and a good deal of fitness.

13.01.2022 The immense relevance of horsemanship to life is a sentiment shared by many horse men and women. A series of pervasive principles embodied by a way of livin’... a little more than big hats and tall boots but still just livin’. Beyond the foundations of this ethos, horsemanship offers a great deal of tangible learnings as relevant to the human as the horse. In the current state of the world, we like many, are settling into our second semester of home-schooling and as much as I... can figure, engagement of children and horses is not so different. Each morning when my youngest (6) daughter comes bouncing downstairs to start the day, it’s a little like stepping into the roundyard with a three year old colt. At first I’m just fixin’ to get her to ‘hook on’ as best I can and maybe convince her that what I’m hoping to impart might be worth her while. Admittedly she’s not always interested... there can be more exciting things for her to consider than school work. Though, eventually with time and consistency, she comes around and together we make it work. For the unacquainted ‘hooking on’ is a process aimed at establishing an initial connection with the horse based on a mutual respect for one another. Anyhow, I hope you’re all doing ok getting your youngsters to ‘hook on’. If you need some tips there’s an instructional video below for the horse that is (I’ll let you know if I get it working for my daughter).

05.01.2022 Most places have a story to tell... some just speak louder than others

04.01.2022 They say it’s just like dancing, except you’ve got two left feet... oh and two right feet too.

03.01.2022 It’s the little things that make the BIGGEST difference! I try take every opportunity to do a lil’ better by the #horse... it always comes around.
