24.01.2022 Keep going, Townsville! It's nearly time to enjoy showers again The latest from Council: Council staff and contractors have worked through the night to undertake further works to restore the pipeline to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant.... Pumping at the treatment plant overnight and during today is expected to replenish the city’s water reservoirs to a level which would allow council to ease water restrictions for domestic customers to in-house use.

22.01.2022 HOORAY for clean work clothes and dishes! A big THANK YOU to Council staff who have worked hard on the repairs and behind the scenes. Townsville residents will be able to resume using water within their homes only from 4pm today (Sunday, 13 December). Water use outside of houses will remain restricted. Emergency water use remains in place until 4pm. Council staff and contractors continue to undertake further works to restore the pipeline to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant.... Pumping at the Douglas Water Treatment Plant overnight and during today has helped replenish the city’s water reservoirs. Levels at all city reservoirs will continue to be monitored. This means that from 4pm today households can shower and wash clothes and dishes, however residents are asked to conserve water where possible. Water restrictions remain in place outside the house meaning no irrigation, no handheld watering, no filling of pools and no washing of vehicles or boats.

17.01.2022 Council staff and external contractors have now replaced a 1.3 metre diameter pipe supplying the Douglas Water Treatment Plant, the city’s primary water treatment facility, which ruptured yesterday. The pipeline is currently being tested, which is expected to be completed by around 5pm. It is expected to take at least 24 hours to fully re-charge the system. During this time, some parts of Townsville may experience issues with water supply. Emergency water use only will help maintain basic supply for everyone and help Council restore full supply to the city sooner.

03.01.2022 Testing of the replacement pipeline to the Douglas Water Treatment Plant this afternoon has identified the need to undertake further works to restore the infrastructure. As a result, Townsville City Council continues to call on residents and commercial water users to limit water use to emergency use only. Council has enacted section 43 of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability Act) 2008 to formally restrict the use of water across the city and Magnetic Island. ... Under this legislation, Council can issue penalties to those residents and businesses found not complying with the water restrictions.
