21.01.2022 BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD STARTS ON THE 1ST OCTOBER 2020. Bush Fire Danger Period and Fire Permits... A Fire Permit is required for burning activities during the Bush Fire Danger Period. Fire Permits help ensure fire is used safely and minimise the danger to you, your property and the community. The key things to remember You need a fire permit if it's the Bush Fire Danger Period. Just because it's the Bush Fire Danger Period doesn't mean you can't use fire - but there are restrictions to ensure fire is used safely. Getting a permit is free and easy. Contact your local Fire Control Centre. There are heavy penalties if you don't follow restrictions or rules. Please note that other restrictions, approvals and/or permits may apply to council areas where the Bush Fire Danger Period has not been declared. For example, backyard burning is not permitted in many suburban areas due to Environmental Regulations and Council or Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) permission is required. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au

20.01.2022 In today's episode we are at Killara Rural Fire Brigade with RFS Captain Andrew, for a behind the scenes tour of their Category 7 Tanker. 20.01.2022 OLD NORTHERN ROAD (ONR) HR - DAY 3 Day 3 of the ONR HR! There is still a lot of important work to do on the ONR HR. As part of our Hazard Reduction work, NSWRFS conducts extensive post-fire assessments on controlled burn areas. ... This including 'mopping up' (putting water on burned area), assessing sites of historical and cultural significance, identifying damage, checking and rechecking roadways and dangerous trees and minimising the risk of reignition. These activities are some of the most important in a hazard reduction, but some of the lesser known. But we still need your help! Residents can minimise the risk and impact of bushfire by maintaining their own property. Get Ready Weekend is this weekend - get involved now to help keep you, your family and property safe! Hazard reductions can assist in reducing the risk of bushfires but cannot guarantee protection. Please be aware that: Trees may continue to fall after the burn and that the area may be unsafe. ALL walking tracks in the area will remain closed until further notice to allow for crews to ensure the safety of the area for residents and community. Please remember to only call 000 if you see a fire without any firefighting crews about.
