20.01.2022 Boxing Day Family Challenge in action, via the Ku-ring-gai edition of Monopoly which was produced a couple of years ago, by Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank Branches. And lookie what we found in Community Chest! So much fun playing this age old game, which includes all our local haunts! This was a charity initiative and HKWS was one of the very lucky beneficiaries - and the joy just keeps on giving!

19.01.2022 Love this - Chores for a Cause ambassador, Sarrah le Marquand, introducing our awareness programme on TODAY. School holidays are upon us, so its a fabulous time to activate the kids into some chores - remember, anyone can do the washing up, mowing, sweeping, taking out the bins. They can put a 'price' on their chore and donate it to HKWS. All info here https://www.womenscommunityshelters.org.au/chores-for-a-ca/ Send pics of the chores in progress to [email protected]

16.01.2022 Our Chores for a Cause Campaign has kicked off beautifully with two energetic 11 year old Year 5 Knox Grammar School students gettting out and about doing chores to support HKWS. From James's heart comes the donation of his pocket money and the words "I have been thinking a lot about COVID-19 lately and its impact on people whose homes aren't safe places for them to be. I worry that for some women and children being made to stay in their homes more often will lead to an in...crease in domestic violence." And pictured is Tom living the dream on that ride-on mower at Granny & Grandad's place. This is the start of his $ target to support our Shelter. A huge THANK YOU to you both! At home or at school, this programme is a winner on all counts https://www.womenscommunityshelters.org.au/chores-for-a-ca/ or contact office@hkws for more info.
16.01.2022 On October 16, HKWS Treasurer, Chania will shave off her long locks! Support the shave and cheer her on here https://chuffed.org/project/chania-rodwell-shave-appeal photo @unsplash (not Chania's hair!)
15.01.2022 At home or at school, the Chores for a Cause campaign is important on so many levels. Get involved: https://www.womenscommunityshelters.org.au/chores-for-a-ca/ or [email protected]

12.01.2022 It is with a big sad sigh that we have made the decision to shut down our Christmas wrapping stall at Westfield Hornsby, as at close of business today, Sunday. The health and safety of our volunteers and their families are our priority and with the ever-changing COVID situation on the Northern Beaches and Greater Sydney, we felt this was the right decision. The biggest thank you's go out to all the gorgeous volunteers who gave their time to wrap beautifully and the graciou...s volunteers who unfortunately missed out on sharing the fun. Our photo shows only some of the fabulous faces who donned our aprons over the last couple of days. Three big public cheers to our Head Elf and Super Volunteer, Margaret Munnings, who, so calmy floor managed the stall this year <3 Margi, your big smile and 'can do' disposition is a gift to us. And a huge THANK YOU always to Westfield Hornsby for offering the opportunity to us year after year and we look forward to Christmas 2021! See more

10.01.2022 As we draw closer to the end of this challenging year, we wish you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday period! It is a special time to reflect on what’s important and show compassion for those who are suffering. Our Shelter team will be working hard over the Christmas period to support the women within our community who need extra care at this time of year. We send our heartfelt thanks to all of our many volunteers and supporters who helped the Shelter through such a diff...icult year. We achieved a great deal this year, successfully supporting over 80 women and children through the work of our Shelter team, Beecroft House and outreach. Through community support we achieved our long held goal of acquiring a permanent home for our Shelter which will allow us to create a wonderful temporary new home for women and their children impacted by homelessness. We look forward to a brighter 2021 and working again with our supporters to continue protecting those in need within our community. - Louise McCann, HKWS Board President See more
