23.01.2022 It’s been very interesting this afternoon to see the discussion about Her Honour, Judge Gaynor’s address to offenders during a sentencing hearing for the stabbing of Tony Mockbel at Barwon prison... some negative, some positive, but mostly I think it’s refreshing to see some straight talking from people who we sometimes forget are human, and are often criticised for being out of touch with society. I know I have always enjoyed my appearances before Her Honour. Though, it did bring the sweat to my brow as it reminded me of a spray I copped from a coach during my lacklustre career at the great Dookie United football club, when I dropped a mark that ultimately cost us the game against Tungamah...circa 2001. Wins were few and far between back then! Ouch
13.01.2022 New home for Tim, I and H&L Legal coming soon! Due to unforeseen works at our current premises, we are moving on. A touch of paint, a lot of positivity and a new world of possibility. Spoiler alert.. we may not being doing it alone We can’t wait!
13.01.2022 Attending the Black Lives Matter March this afternoon (all PPE and distance measures followed) . Because this country has an appalling history of treatment of our First Nations people by authority. As lawyers we witness first hand the injustice of a system that lacks care for its most vulnerable people. In silence we lay separated from the reality. But together we stand so they can breathe. 06.01.2022 It probably can go without saying that this last few months have been definitely challenging. Our office has been collecting dust and Tim and I have hardly seen each other - don’t tell him but I’ve missed him a bit . For a new small businesses just gaining momentum this time has come with the anxiety of surviving and then starting all over again. Looking out above the Brisbane Ranges, I’ve been thinking not only about how I’m going to need a good physio but also about adven...ture and change. Every aspect of my own life has changed in the last 12 months but I realise I’m excited by the adventure. As we begin to open our practice again now I can’t wait to see the ways our work will change and the passion we have in advocacy for the vulnerable. You can’t have a shadow without a light. I hope you have had some chance this long weekend to find your light in the shadow also. 02.01.2022 When life gives you forced time, take the time to work on life. Amongst thinking about how we manage our business structure, the significant disruption to clients and justice as well as safe court attendances, I’ve found a little time for a home office renovation.
