24.01.2022 Happy 17th Birthday HMAS Parramatta. Today marks 17 years since Commissioning Lady, Mrs Jill Green welcomed Parramatta into service. The Commanding Officer, CMDR Anita Nemarich RAN and Ship's Company celebrated the milestone on Friday with the cutting of a birthday cake. In Naval tradition the two youngest members of the crew, MIDN Jade Ferguson and SMNCIS Eden Wilks joined the Commanding Officer for the ceremonial cutting.
22.01.2022 At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the guns fell silent across Europe to mark the end of WW1 hostilities. Today, Remembrance Day is an opportunity to commemorate those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice across all conflicts. Lest We Forget... #WeHaveTheWatch

18.01.2022 During NAIDOC Week 2020, the Royal Australian Navy profiles the ongoing achievements of its Indigenous Australian service personnel and celebrates the histories..., cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Navy is committed to a culturally inclusive workplace that enables our respected fighting force to deliver on its duties to Australians and actively encourages all its people to be involved in deepening their knowledge and cultural understanding during NAIDOC Week. 17.01.2022 At about midnight on 26th November, the three ships were positioned approximately 25 miles north of Bardia. It was pitch black, raining with a heavy surging sea. Commanding Officer, Commander Jefferson Walker, MVO, RAN, closes the supply ship Hanne, who had become confused as to her route, to hail by megaphone. The two ships remained lay close alongside, steaming slowly at 3 knots towards Tobruk. At the going down of the sun and in the morning Leading Stoker, Victor George... 14.01.2022 At 12 minutes past midnight, U559 closes to a range of 2200 yards and fires three torpedoes at Parramatta as she closely escorts Hanne. All three torpedoes miss. Then at 12:45am on 27 November 1941, U559 fires a single torpedo at a range of 1500 yards, hitting Parramatta amidships. Two simultaneous explosions critically cripples Parramatta, before she rapidly rolls to starboard and disappears below the waves. Twenty One survivors were pulled from the water by HMS Avon Vale..., with three more reaching the Libyan coast and being rescued by advancing British troops. 147 persons (including passengers) was lost. We will remember then. Lest we forget. He’s there. But you can to the ocean go See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride In and out with every tide. And when your span of life is passed, He’ll meet you at the Captain’s Mast. And they who mourn on distant shore For sailors who’ll come home no more, Can dry their tears and pray for these Who rest beneath the heaving seas For stars that shine and winds that blow And whitecaps marching row on row. And they can never lonely be For when they lived they chose the sea. Images courtesy of Australian War Memorial and Navy Image Gallery
13.01.2022 23rd November 1941 - Having safely re-supplied the garrisons at Tobruk, HMAS Parramatta returns to Alexandria for what would ultimately be her last visit. 08.01.2022 At dawn on 18 November 1941 the British Eighth Army launched its long planned offensive in Libya. Two Units from the 'Tobruk Ferry', HMA Ships Parramatta (II) and Yarra (II) left Alexandria escorting a slow convoy to Tobruk, on what would become Parramatta's penultimate voyage. In the lead up to the anniversary of the sinking of Parramatta (II), we will pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Yeoman of Signals, William John Allsop (27)...
