You have the option of different head heights ranging from 1mm to 3/4". Thinner head heights are ideal when working with thin timber. 03.01.2022 Beautiful new workbench made by @chi_y fitted with our HNT Gordon Tail Vice and Front Vice. Finished my workbench!!... This reclaimed blackbutt knockdown bench is the biggest (and heaviest) piece I’ve ever made at 1700mm L x 800mm W. I’ve poured so much time and love into it it’s hard to count. I think of it as the heart of the workshop and the place where everything comes together The main reason it’s a knockdown bench was to make the assembly and weight more manageable. The other reason is because I want to take it with me wherever I go (workshop wise ;) I made the top really thick so I could plane it back as I need to over the next 50-60 yearsI have a ‘make it once, use it forever’ kind of policy. I also didn’t want to use any new timber so it’s all reclaimed blackbutt from barenjoey timbers on the northern beaches (including the floorboards I repurposed as a bottom shelf). The tail and bench vice are from H&T Gordon and work a treat! They are highly functionally and operate extremely smoothly with no racking. Easily the best vices I’ve ever used. Connector bolts with a cross joining metal dowels connect the side stretchers of the bench to the ends. The top is secured to the frame via metal brackets and some corner brackets to stop any racking. I’ve finished it with shellac and livos. If you’re interested in making your own work bench it’s ridiculously satisfying and I’d highly recommend it! Now to use it without being too precious about the unavoidable scratches and dints that are coming it’s way.
