09.01.2022 Chronic pelvic pain in women is a scourge that is hidden, ignored and disregarded. All too often, young women suffer in silence. Questions unanswered. Anguish unheeded. Their pain minimalised by the collective memory of the past. Their suffering leading to ostracism in the present. Their continued agony a gateway to misery in the future. The neuromuscular, psychological and social patterns of chronic pelvic pain are often set in motion at an early age when young women first s...tart their periods. If they are significantly painful and are not dealt with early on then abnormal patterns can be formed and early diagnoses are not made. The PPEP (Periods, Pain and Endometriosis Program) talk developed in South Australia brings the most modern knowledge of periods, endometriosis and pelvic pain into schools. Imagine what difference it would make if a young woman’s pain was diagnosed early; if they are taught the latest information about pelvic pain, and guided to the latest resources and effective treatments when they are a teen? This educational program has the capacity to be a game changer in the prevention of chronic pelvic pain. Each session is a 1 hour positive, fun, educational and interactive program that talks about pain, periods and endometriosis. There is an opportunity for individual girls to discuss their personal pain circumstances with a trained educator following the presentation. Educators are supported with medical advisers to ensure the information provided is accurate and helpful. I am working with a number of collaborators to bring this program to Tasmania. A pilot program going to 10 schools within the Hobart area can be carried out over a 2 week period and costs $25,000. Feedback from the pilot program is full evaluated and can be used in order to lobby State Government for extended and ongoing funding. In the near future I will be able to give you more information about bringing this very exciting program to Tasmania. We will be looking at various avenues to raise funds for the pilot program and this will include asking you to open up your wallets! Stay tuned for further information. In the meantime head on over to the Facebook page that we have started to get out information about this exciting project. https://www.facebook.com/PPEP-for-Tassie-100759634650996

02.01.2022 Some of you might recall a post recently about the PPEP talk for young women. Helping them navigate what to do about painful periods, pelvic pain and endometriosis. I have been in discussion with the Pelvic Pain Foundation about getting this to Tasmania. I will be working with consumer groups, gynaecologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, GPs, schools and other groups over the coming months to try and make this a reality. It is going to take a lot of time and effort and d...own the track..... MONEY to make this happen - but it needs to happen!! The first step will be a pilot program. I will keep you updated! https://www.pelvicpain.org.au/schools-ppep-program/
