Altered hormone levels, often combined with low vitamin d (which helps drive calcium into bones to keep them strong, often low post winter due to low sun exposure) can be the cause. Abnormal foot alignment/biomechanics, excess load in a bone along with unsupportive footwear are common co-factors. ... Stress fractures can manifest as a sudden or gradual onset of pain in the foot and swelling. Confusingly, these won’t show on plain x-ray, until healing is established. 06.01.2022 UPDATE & MESSAGE TO OUR LOYAL CLIENTS... OKAY so we are revising that last post! We realised that we are too busy to close fully on Wednesdays so decided we will just run on reduced hours from 10-2 each Wednesday for the next few weeks instead! Other days hours remain as per usual.... I'd also like to take the opportunity to THANK all our loyal clients for supporting our business during this time, appreciating that we are still here and open, avoiding our premises if they or their close contacts are unwell or quarantined, generally being respectful of other people’s space in the practice, using hand sanitiser on entry to the building, waiting on the deck or in the garden for their appointment if they prefer and so on. We really do have a great community here and our practice has become a comforting place to be at this time of uncertainty for many. I'd also like to thank our staff for their immense cleaning and sterilising of every pen, door knob and surface in the place after every client, and for respecting people's personal space and being friendly and familiar faces to all at a time when people are craving normality in their lives! Podiatry is considered an essential service and we are permitted to stay open but rest assured we evaluate this every single day as the health and safety of our clients and staff is our priority. This study presents some other factors linked to diet that may also be relevant to fracture risk.
