25.01.2022 While things have been a little quieter on the airfield lately, our commitment to providing a safe and secure airport always remains. Meet our Operations Compliance Coordinator, Sam who helps make this happen! #myHBA

25.01.2022 Tasty Tassie treats are arriving soon!

23.01.2022 From today, travellers will notice a number of changes to our terminal as we start works to upgrade our food and beverage outlets. As previously announced, we will be welcoming iconic Tasmanian brands Cascade Brewery, Liv-Eat and Coal River Farm to the terminal. As a result, all food and beverage outlets will be temporarily closed, and we will be working closely with these businesses to ensure they are open ahead of the busy Christmas travel period. In the meantime, a selec...tion of sandwiches and deli items, a limited hot food menu and hot and cold beverages will be available at a temporary pop up outlet in our departures lounge. Additionally, a cart with grab and go food and beverage options will be set up in our arrivals hall. Snacks and beverages can also be purchased through our vending machines and retail outlets. We are mindful that undertaking works while maintaining operations will cause some congestion and construction noise within certain parts of the terminal. We will do everything we can to minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and ask that you please bear with us as we grow for the future. #myHBA #GrowWithUs

22.01.2022 Things have been a little quieter at HBA and you haven’t been hearing from us as much lately, so we wanted to reassure you we’re still here and show you what we’ve been up to. We’ve been working with our airline partners to make sure those who still need to travel can make it to their destination and to ensure important freight is delivered to Tasmanians. We helped FoodBank store and distribute packs full of essential items to those going into quarantine. ... We welcomed the arrival of a Qantas A330 freight flight with medical supplies and protective equipment from Hong Kong and saw it depart for Sydney full of fresh Tasmanian produce. We welcomed the media through our doors to keep our community up to date with changes to our operations. We spotted two Bettongs enjoying the peace and quiet on our camera traps. We welcomed the CSIRO as a new tenant in our freight and logistics precinct. We took to the quiet airfield to give mother nature a hand and removed bunches of African Lovegrass. We celebrated isolation birthdays and anniversaries, but most importantly we continue to come together (from a distance) to plan for a safe and comfortable return to operations at HBA. We look forward to welcoming you back when we’re cleared for take-off. Team HBA

20.01.2022 It’s been 12 months since the installation of our virtual fencing technology along Grueber Avenue and in that time, we have seen a 70 per cent reduction in wildlife deaths on this stretch of road. Following the devastation on animal populations from the recent bushfires, it has never been more important to look after our furry friends and we are thrilled at the success of this project to date. We can confirm no state listed threatened species have been found to be impacted b...y traffic on Grueber Avenue since installation, and we hope to see this trend continue. For more information on the virtual fencing technology, visit https://www.wildlifesafetysolutions.com.au/ #myHBA

19.01.2022 You might remember earlier in the year we announced our collaboration with Fifteen Trees to plant a tree for each day our airport is in operation this year. Last week we took a trip out to Brighton to see our trees being planted as part of a bigger environmental initiative by Brighton Council in conjunction with Spring Bay Mill and Verdant Way horticulturalist Marcus Ragus to reinvigorate the Polonia Park landscape. With a focus on flora that was once native to this area, so...me of the species planted include white peppermints, black gums, native primrose, spreading flax-lily and kangaroo grass. We are proud to be involved with this community project and look forward to seeing the area begin to flourish. #myHBA

18.01.2022 This Airport Safety Week we are taking the time to reflect on what has been a challenging year, with an unprecedented level of change to our operations. While our celebrations will look a little different in 2020, we are excited to kick things off with an introduction to our Risk and Safety Manager, Craig! Along with leading our Airport Safety Week activities, Craig has been busy ensuring everyone can return to a safe environment for work and travel at HBA.... #myHBA #ASW2020

18.01.2022 In addition to our tree a day project, we have once again teamed up with Fifteen Trees to donate 255 trees to Bruny Island District School. Students from Prep to Grade 5 along with some of their families, came together to plant the shrubs on National Tree Planting Day earlier this month. We are grateful for the work of our friends at Fifteen Trees who make it possible for us to be part of such wonderful projects that teach the next generation the importance of carbon resilien...ce and preserving our unique environment. 18.01.2022 Despite a tough start to 2020, we are humbled by the generosity of our business partners and members of the public who helped us raise more than $13,000 for the Alannah & Madeline Foundation during our Be a Buddy campaign. To everyone who purchased a leaf for the Be a Buddy Tree, supported our fundraiser BBQ, crafted a letter of hope to those in need or took the time to learn more about the foundation, we want to sincerely thank you for your kindness and support during what ...has been a challenging time for so many. We look forward to seeing the Alannah and Madeline Foundation continue their incredible work to help children in need. #myHBA

14.01.2022 Each year National Threatened Species Day is commemorated on September 7 to raise awareness of the plants and animals facing extinction across the country. Hobart Airport is home to a range of threatened species, including both plants and animals. At least ten threatened plant species are scattered throughout airport land and every year we monitor their presence to assess their health and distribution. ... Spring is our favourite time of year, when we see many of these species burst into full bloom, bringing splashes of colour to our airport landscape. #myHBA #NationalThreatenedSpeciesDay

14.01.2022 According to a study by Planet Ark, Australians consume around 6 billion cups of coffee each year with 93 per cent of waste from coffee grounds ending up in landfill. When added to landfill, coffee grounds produce methane which has a warming potential far greater than carbon dioxide. Together with our neighbours, Red Square Cafe and Westland Nurseries, we recently began our first circular economy project which aims to divert 50kg of coffee grounds from landfill each week. ... While this is an experiment to begin with, we are hoping this inspires others to move away from the linear waste model and look at ways in which they too can embed circular economy principles. #myHBA #sustainability
