24.01.2022 We found these when cleaning out.

22.01.2022 Throwback to Thursday: It might feel like months since we've heard this sound, but just last week the entire Hobart Wind Symphony were in the same room for the first time since August. Thanks to The Friends' School staff and students for their continued support of our Annual Composers' Workshop. We recorded three pieces so composers could receive "real world" feedback on their works.

Brassbanned are streaming a 'best of' from the last decade of contests. Hobart Wind Symphony will feature late Saturday night. And our members will also be on show, representing a number of brass bands, across Saturday and Sunday.

The Hobart Brass Band recorded Two Places, composed by our MD Simon Reade as one of their project works. The venue is Mather's House in central Hobart and we thank City of Hobart for their support securing this venue for the recording. Again our great thanks to Dorian Broomhall for his work producing this video, and we would also like to thank Brolga Music Publishing Company f...or allowing us to share this video with you all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiqCxRJd4NE

Farrell's new work, From Fern Glade, evokes the stunning natural beauty of kunanyi/Mount Wellington. The work was composed for the Hobart Wind Symphony and this recording is it's premiere performance. We are very pleased to be able to share this wonderful new Tasmanian work with you all. Thanks to the City of Hobart for your grant that supported the hire of the beaut...iful Hobart Town Hall and to the Tasmanian Community Fund for assisting in the purchase of percussion equipment and sound shields. Finally thanks to Dorian Broomhall for producing this video. Enjoy - and keep an eye out for more videos to come! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuY27ILsIng

16.01.2022 Our Wind Symphony moved on from small to large sectionals this week in preparation for our 2020 Gala event next Saturday. Unfortunately, due to the size of our band, we are unable to have an audience next weekend, however we are videoing the event to share at a later date. Next Saturday may well be the only time our wind symphony can play in the same room for the remainder of 2020, so we’re making it a special day with a brand new work to be played by Claire Farrell titled ‘From Fern Glade’. We will also be playing something a little bit challenging by Philip Sparke... watch this space for the exciting results of our Gala day recording!

14.01.2022 Hobart City Band are excited to be an official supporter of MAMMA MIA! There's one week of shows left.

14.01.2022 Hobart City Band are pleased to announce that we will recommence sectional rehearsals for all ensembles as of the week beginning July 20. At this stage we have no confirmed date for a return to full rehearsals and no confirmed performances open to the public, however we are working through some exciting options in this challenging time and wish to thank all supporters of the Hobart City Band for their patience and good will. We hope to be playing for everyone again as soon as we can! Simon Reade Musical Director

The Committee continues to work with our partner organisations and venues, and is meeting later in the week to determine schedules/cancellations for future rehearsals and events. We will continue to keep you up to date as information comes to hand. Our Wind Symphony concert, Assorted Colours, due to be held on the 29th March, has also been cancelled. We anticipate that the programming will be postponed, or included in other future concerts.

Don Kay's 'March for the Republic, composed for our ensemble way back in 2001, is an exuberant work that we are very pleased to be able to share with you here. It doesn't take itself too seriously - and we certainly enjoyed that element of it when recording this video! 02.01.2022 At this time, Hobart City Band has made the decision to cancel all events and rehearsals until April 29. HCB is a true community organization our members, and families, represent every sector of the community including both essential service providers and vulnerable individuals. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our members. It is on this basis (with empathetic hearts, and open minds) that the Committee made their decision.
