18.01.2022 ***Great News*** The Federal Government recently eased dental service restrictions to 'Level 2', effective from Monday, 27th of April. The announcement means we can provide a broader range of services to our (and new) patients, so if you’ve been putting up with a sensitive tooth, need a filling or are due for a check up, give us a call. 11.01.2022 ***IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: COVID-19*** At North Hobart Dental we pride ourselves on our high standards when it comes to infection control and patient care. We would like to reassure you that in this unprecedented situation with COVID-19, we have added extra precautions and are following the guidelines set out by ADA. The safety and well being of our staff and patients are our number one priority.... All patients will be phoned a day before your appointment to make sure: 1 - you have not travelled into Tasmania in the last 2 weeks 2 - have not been in contact with anyone with known COVID-19 3 - do not have a sore throat, cough, fever or generally feel unwell. We have also added loss of smell to these symptoms. If anyone answers yes to any of these questions, their appointment will be postponed by at least 2 weeks. 1.On entry into waiting area: We ask everyone to sanitise their hands on entry into the waiting room and minimise contact to surfaces.We have removed all magazines and newspapers. We are doing our best to try and minimise waiting times. 2. In treatment rooms: We are wearing personal protective equipment as per our guidelines by ADA and DBA. We have sufficient stock to treat our patients. All equipment will be sterilised and all surfaces disinfected, like we usually do (as per infection control legislation) 3.On leaving the practice building: All surfaces will be cleaned, including door handles, benchtops, hicaps/eftpos machines, etc We understand this is a difficult time for everyone and we will do our best to accommodate you if you are in need of dental care. 08.01.2022 ***COVID-19 update*** We would like to reassure our patients and community that we are still OPEN. As you might know, dentists in Australia have been advised by ADA and the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) that level 3 restrictions now apply. This means we are only able to perform emergency and urgent dental treatments. All routine dental treatments will be postponed/rescheduled until further notice. Our staff will be making contact with patients with... existing bookings that doesn't fall under the allowed level 3 restrictions. Urgent or emergency dental treatments include: - toothache - broken tooth (will be triaged over the phone) - soft tissue pathology, like ulcers,etc - management of complex medically compromised patients with dental concerns (which might compromise their systemic disease) - management of patients with a higher risk of rapid progression of dental disease - management of patients referred by a medical practitioner for medically necessary dental care Treatment will be provided with strict adherence to ADA Guidelines in terms of additional infection control precautions (as per our previous post) Please be reassured that we are here to support you during this difficult time. 05.01.2022 Bruxism or Teeth grinding -------------------------------------- http://www.hobartdental.com.au/de/night-guards-splints-tmj/ --------------------------------------- Bruxism is an excessive clenching or grinding of the teeth that is not part of normal chewing movements. It can happen in adults or children, may happen during night or day and they typically have no conscious control over it.... The Causes: The causes of bruxism is still being studied. I combination of physical and psychological factors are believed to contribute to bruxism: - physical stress such as illness, nutritional deficiencies or dehydration - psycological stress, anxiety and tension - abnormal anatomy and occlusion of teeth can lead to bruxism - caffeine, alcohol or some medications may increase the risk of bruxism The Symptoms: - Worn or flattened teeth - Sensitive teeth - Broken or cracked teeth - Dull ache in a tooth that comes and goes or "moves" around in your mouth - Tight and tender jaw muscles, especially in the morning - Clicking TMJ joint (and tenderness on palpation) or "ear ache" - Headaches (dull and usually starts in temples) or stiff neck , especially in the morning - Tiredness in the morning (even after a good long sleep) The Complications: Severe grinding or clenching can cause: - severe damage to your teeth leading to root canal treatments , extractions or crowns. - damage to your TMJ joint - tension-type headaches - severe facial or jaw pain - sore or sensitive teeth The Treatment: If you suspect you grind or clench your teeth, call us to arrange a consult to discuss it further. Prior to this she has been working in private practice in Queensland for over 10 years.... Jo enjoys all aspects of general dentistry but particularly loves showing young kids they don’t have to be afraid of going to the dentist.
