24.01.2022 Weather not looking too promising for OWS tomorrow morning (Wed 19 Feb), with wind increasing to 30 kph from the SE in the morning, blowing onshore at Howrah, and 60% chance of showers in the morning. Maybe only for the brave...

22.01.2022 Tomorrow (26 Feb) morning's forecast for possible showers (but we get wet anyway?) and moderate north westerlies suggests Bellerive Beach (bluff end) will be the best prospect for a swim. Aiming to be in the water at 7am, see you there. Pia, if u see this can you bring the SS Anne pls?

22.01.2022 Forecast for Bellerive (using my local knowledge about what seems to happen with what’s forecast): Thurs good all day Friday less so but ok before 9am Saturday should be beaut Beach safe site says Water is 15C at Bellerive, not sure what thermometer they’re using ... Pics from last official Dolphins OWS 25 March, from the pontoon at Bellerive (pink cap is FiZi) See more

22.01.2022 Entries for the Winter SC Championships close on Saturday August 15 at 11.59PM. Get your entry in. More details and entry is available on the MST website: https://mastersswimmingtasmania.com.au//2020-mst-winter-c/

19.01.2022 It was grey, cold and you could argue it was raining a little, but it didn’t stop the Dolphins doing some dry land training (yoga for swimming) while the pools are closed. Keeping a sensible 1.5 m minimum separation members warmed up with a walk along the bike path and shared (figuratively!) a thermos coffee after some getting down with the downward dogs. Working on our swim flexibility and form fully clothed could become a regular Saturday morning feature while the pools are out of action.

17.01.2022 Vale Rex Wise It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of much cherished club member Rex Wise. Rex is remembered as a very kind, gentle and humble man with a caring nature who showed a genuine interest in everyone he met. He is best remembered in his later years, sitting by the pool with his mates Doug and Peter B. critiquing their fellow swimmers and solving the problems of the world. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his family.

13.01.2022 VALE LES YOUNG 6 March 1926 - 17 March 2020 The Hobart Dolphins Masters Swimming Club is very sad to advise of the passing of Les Young. Les was a Life Member of our club. Les was a cherished team member, friend, confidant and advisor to many us. He will be remembered fondly as a true gentleman who made an enormous contribution to Masters Swimming in general, and our club in particular, as a swimmer, coach and administrator. ... Our fondest memories of Les, however, will be of his tenacity, good humour, generous spirit and kindness. Our deepest condolences to his family. See more

12.01.2022 Sorry for the late notice but conditions much windier and unpleasant than predicted, so no open water swim this morning.

12.01.2022 Finally! The weather gods have smiled and LHB is ON this Wednesday 4 March, in the water by 7 am. Some of us will be happy to keep going at 8 for the later risers. Woohoo! (Pia - can you bring "Anne" please?)

11.01.2022 Late breaking news - weather for tomorrow morning’s swim at LHB is good. In the water at 7am sharp.

11.01.2022 Huge thanks to the organisers of yesterday’s MegaSwim, a fantastic job in difficult circumstances. 9 teams and over a hundred swimmers provided a great atmosphere! Very happy to report that Hobart Dolphins raised the most funds for an individual team with over $4,000, great job by Ella for winning the prize as highest youth fundraiser, also to Fiona Z who was our next highest fundraiser. Big thank you to all those members and supporters who helped us raise this money for suc...h a great cause and particularly to Annaliese for her hard work in organising our team. Ps. Next year we’re gunning for the fancy dress prize!

11.01.2022 Popular OWS at LHB this morning with more than a dozen swimmers enjoying calm conditions and 17C water. With Steve, Di, Megan, Fiona R, Judi, KD, Darryl, Michelle C, Siska (bravely sans wettie), James, & ring-ins Joe, Dean E, Jayde (may have missed someone).

11.01.2022 Fantastic way to finish off 2020 at Waterworks Reserve yesterday. Lots of Friendship and Fun with good weather, superb food and just a little bit of entertainment thrown in. Thanks to Judi and everyone who helped make the day a success.

10.01.2022 Five souls went down to sea this morning, the lonely sea and the sky... The SS Anne C sailed on the high seas, well not sailed, anchored. And she dragged anchor in a small onshore swell (NTS: make anchor heavier) while 4 Dolphins plus Joe from 'over the road' completed 1-4 laps in 16oC water (it was fine once the ice cream headache left). Di, Pia, Steve, Megan and Joe enjoyed the lovely start to a beautiful day, but boy does this coffee taste good now. Still a few more swims left in the year we thinks.

09.01.2022 Glenorchy pool, still a best kept secret, this shot taken just after getting out today. I have a variety of programs with me, although Sue V and Ruth just did their own thing today. Sleep pretty well after an evening swim too, I have to say!

09.01.2022 OWS tomorrow morning 7:30 am (bit dark at 7:00) at Bellerive Beach, bluff end. Change of location from LHB to 1) get a bit more shelter from a predicted light westerly and 2) check out Dean's new pontoon and buoys! See you there.

09.01.2022 Five Dolphins were greeted by choppy conditions under a sunny sky for the Carlton Beach OWS this morning. Best placed was Pia who took 3rd in the senior masters female div behind Amanda Duggan in a time of 28:11.3 for the 1500 m course. Georgie was 4th in the masters female in 26:41.2 (winner Louise D’Amico in 20:34.1). I was 6th in the very competitive SM male div in 22:27.5 (winner Andrew Fisher in 17:49.3) edging out Tomatoes Doug Hughson (oh yeah - not competitive at all!). Mark’s time (scenic route) 27:34, Darryl Smith 39:17. Overall winners Sam Askey-Doran (16:16) and Jayde Richardson (19:08). Water 17C and clear.

06.01.2022 Hobart Dolphins are taking part in the MS Mega Swim tomorrow at the Hobart Aquatic Centre. We’re currently leading the fundraising race for individual teams but there are a few teams closely on our heels - we would love your support for this great cause

06.01.2022 Gold, Gold, GOLD Australia! (Or Tasmania...). Dolphins at the recent Summer Long Course Championships in Hobart scored well in the medals, and made lots of new PB's in the pool. Among the successes was Kathryn Osborn who, with 2809 FINA points, narrowly missed being awarded Female Swimmer of the Meet behind winner Christine Brown of Hobart Aquatic with 2997 points. Kath's swims included an impressive 622 point swim for her 200 BR. Megan Stronach continued to amaze us by break...ing her own state age group record in the 100 BA by almost 4 seconds in a time of 1:42.25, as well as breaking 2 state records as part of what is becoming the "dream team" along with Kathy's Osborn and Daft, and Fiona Ziegeler. The guys beat both of their relay times in the 240+ age group for the 200 free and medley relays, clocking 7 and 14 second improvements respectively. The club also managed to field a rare men's relay team in the 4x50 free, with newbie David Wightman joining the "veteran" team of Bill Cohen, Steve Richards and Peter Tucker (taking time out of his gruelling Catalina training to support our efforts at the meet). Most importantly, everyone had a terrific time, and commented on what a great meet it was: relaxed, and very smoothly run by Hobart Aquatic. A huge thanks to Phil Tyrrell and team. See more

05.01.2022 Fellow Dolphins interested in open water swimming, the "Devil of a Swim" event is planned for April 5 in Bicheno, and includes 'shorter' distances along with the grandaddy 5km swim for the truly game!

04.01.2022 Breakfast of champions. BIG turnout at training this morning with 29 swimmers, spilling over into a free 4th lane. Members had a bit of fun during training, racing 25-50 m off the blocks in pairs, doing free and form strokes. After a few rivalries had been exercised there was time for scrambled eggs, fritters and coffee in our "reserved room" at Spencer's in Lindisfarne.

03.01.2022 Important Notice regarding the Port Sorell Swim on Saturday Unfortunately due to the inclement weather predicted for the weekend the ocean swim has been postpon...ed. The club will advise a revised date in due course. Refunds can be requested via Webscorer or Paypal. Next swim is scheduled for January 2nd. The Brooke Street Pier 1200 at Seven Mile Beach. See more

Annaliese Fiona Z/Kathryn O (equal) Silver Megan Mary Bronze Fiona R Steve David Three Branch Relay records broken (details on individual records to come) Congratulations to Launceston for winning top point scoring club but also putting on a great Meet under difficult circumstances. A great weekend of Friendship and Fun!

02.01.2022 Looking good for OWS at Bellerive (bluff end, same as last week) from the pontoon tomorrow (Mar 25) at 7:30 am, to the green buoy and back. Maybe more than once. Noice.

02.01.2022 Strong showing by Dolphins swimmers at the Australia Day swim at Kingston Beach on Saturday, with Michelle's Cochrane and Sampson coming in 2nd and 16th in the female masters div and Kathryn Osborne taking out 3rd in the highly competitive senior masters div, along with Megan Stronach (5th) and Sue Muir (6th). Megan's son Finn was 2nd in his div and Kath Daft, Judy Adams and Di Gregory completed the 500 m "novice" event. Well done guys!

01.01.2022 The lunatics have taken over LHB. Yes, that's the moon in the background. Compared to the air temp, the water felt warm! With Joe, James, Pia, Megan (photo credit: Megs/Gary), Di & Steve this morning.
