Meeting all of the World Powerlifting required specs, we are keen to watch some PBs be annihilated on this. A huge thank you to Shaw Contracting for making this possible. Lifters: see you on the platform!

19.01.2022 Hobart Powerlifting Club represented at their first competition on Sunday at the Raw Strength Tasmania Open. Terry's performance included 9/9 with PBs in each lift and a 27kg total PB. Avril and Declan had some very sound displays of composure and strength, both going 9/9 with total PBs despite quite erratic preparations . Avril impressively totalled 393kg at 71kg including a 175kg deadlift with more in the tank.... Esther, Gene and Sara all dropped a weight class into this competition and successfully qualified for nationals which was their primary goals. Darryl squatted 120kg, benched 87kg, and deadlifted 144kg in his first powerlifting competition at 70 years old! Flo squatted 102kg, benched 46kg and deadlifted 115kg in her first powerlifting competition at 17 years old! Lastly Holly had a ripper of a day going 9/9 and adding a huge 28kg to her total! Thanks to everyone involved to make the day such a success. If you're interested in competing with HPC don't hesitate to get in touch! @ Hobart, Tasmania
19.01.2022 It’s been an exciting time for HPC as we prep for our first meet as a club which is Junior + Master Nationals! Our youngest member, Florence Dobie, coached by Sophie Kuncio, will be competing in our youth category. It will be her second competition to date and she’s ready for a big day! We ask Flo a few questions about the upcoming event:... Q. How do you feel about competing at your first national event? Are you glad it’s become a satellite event here in Hobart? A. I'm really looking forward to competing at Nationals! The rescheduling of the competition has worked massively in my favour, and I’m excited to showcase the hard work that's gone into this prep here in Hobart. Q. What has been your training focus and driver over this prep? A. Since the gyms reopened, my training has been predominantly focusing on the big 3 lifts and building my strength back up again, the primary driver being a good performance at Nationals. Technical improvements and execution of my lifts have definitely come a long way and I’m feeling way more confident in my lifting even after a disrupted period of training over covid. Q. Where do you think you have grown the most in this space? What support and non-negotiables do you have in play to making it all work? A. This prep has shown me how much I can achieve. Sophie's coaching and unconditional support has helped me accomplish so much in such a short time. My own self driven motivation is detrimental to my training as I juggle this and school, and I have learnt so much about my own capabilities, physically and mentally, and it's all coming together! This girl is one of the hardest workers in the room for a young new lifter, she always shows up ready to learn more and be better. I don’t know who’s looking forward to her comp day more! Me or her!! We’ve become an unstoppable team and myself and HPC are so proud to have her representing our club in such a momentous event! Sophie says. We wish Flo all the best for her last few weeks of prep!
16.01.2022 James with a smooth PB squat of 163kg this week. James is just 19 years old and prepping for his first competition next weekend under coach Jeremy Fraser in the 94kg class.
16.01.2022 Last Friday HPC member Ruby Frankcombe and coach Sophie Kuncio ended a highly successful training block by testing Ruby’s squat and deadlift. While COVID was certainly a bump in the road for many over the last few months, Ruby was able to train with a barbell for 2 of her 4 training days since the end of March, which enabled her to keep her lifts progressing well! Making the most of the equipment available and some program changes, Ruby’s strength and technical execution prog...ressed better than expected! A combination of low bar, high bar and front squats saw her squat rise to 130 by testing day, with a little more in the tank! Sumo deadlifts and single leg RDL’s as her main deadlift accessories have helped both her squat and conventional deadlift progress over the last 12 weeks by significantly improving weak points in her glutes and adductors. Ruby finished with a huge 155kg deadlift, the perfect grind to finish a great day! Huge shout out to Pei Gan from PB Physio, who was a big help getting to the root cause of Ruby’s history of knee pain! Big things to come for this dream team!
