21.01.2022 Helsal IV and Magic Miles are both 62 foot maxi veterans of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Match Races between the two on the harbour in Hobart are extremely popular with corporate and other groups; perfect for team building or just having fun. After the race we usually retire to a local dockside bar to 'debrief' over some nibbles and drinks. 20.01.2022 HOBART YACHTS HEADS FOR HAMO Helsal IV haas a charter to Hamilton Island and return and Magic Miles will be joining us there to compete in the Hamilton Island Race Week - the biggest race regatta in Australia. We have had a great start to the trip with an exciting crossing of Bass Strait (35+ kts and 3-4 meter seas) that turned into a millpond off Eden. After an encounter with a very well camouflaged warship on the way through the heads!!! We are moored in Kirribilli, Sydney at Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, preparing for the next leg to Coffs Harbour. 20.01.2022 TEMPORARY CLOSURE Like so many people at the moment, we have been forced to close down in order to comply with the State and Federal governments' travel and social distancing rules. We'll be keeping our heads down and getting some extra maintenance done while riding out this viral storm. 15.01.2022 After just under 4 months of sailing adventures , taking in the Whitsundays and Hamilton Island Race Week, Helsal IV is operating out of King’s Pier Marina and looking forward to the sailing ahead. Magic Miles will be arriving home from the same trip this Friday. There was plenty of excitement, including bumping into a sleeping whale one night in Bass Strait, an attack by the infamous gympie gympie bush on Hook Island and being holed by an out of control catamaran in only o...ur third race at Hamilton Island. There were even more magic moments and we’ll bore you with them if you want to drop by for a chat. Or better still, come sailing with us. Let all your friends know we are back. 04.01.2022 PORT DAVEY with TIM FLANNERY We recently returned from a 7-Day trip to our favourite escape, Port Davey. Onboard were the incredible crew from Wild Pacific Media, Nick Robinson, Caspar Mazzotti and Cameron Batten, the ever watchful Stephen Oliver from ABC documentaries, and Prof Tim Flannery. Australian of the Year in 2007, past Chief Commissioner of the Climate Commission (abolished by the Liberal Government in 2013 and reformed as the independent Climate Council), Tim is ...also a genuine, generous natured bloke. It was an absolute pleasure to meet and work with all of them. Tim partnered up on camera with our own Peter Marmion (expert on all things Port Davey, Hobart Yachts guide, and also a good bloke) to discuss the importance of the SW wilderness and the current and potential impact of climate change and the warming ocean currents. Port Davey will feature in a three-part documentary, Australia's Ocean Highway, on the ABC in May 2020. I've seen some of the footage from the other two episodes; it is absolutely stunning. Heading out from Pearl Bay (near Rockhampton) and found ourselves scrapping a reef that wasn't on the charts. Tides go out very fast in this part of the world and within a matter of minutes the 4 meter tide had us listing; a perfect careening opportunity in preparation for Hamilton Island Race Week.
