16.01.2022 Fides, an Altona Meadows resident of over 30 years, has spent majority of her career working with local government until she started her own business venture in consultancy. Unfortunately this came to a halt when COVID-19 hit and the Mum of two was left without work for six months. Now, as the new Hobsons Bay Working for Victoria’s Senior Business Communications Officer, Fides works on the Hobsons Bay Business Has Heart program, which is all about business recovery and suppo...rting local businesses affected by COVID-19. 07.01.2022 Hobsons Bay Business has Heart Outdoors - Trader Profile Cheeky Chewies Cafe, Laverton’s Asian fusion café and restaurant, has been a dine in and takeaway favourite for families in the west for the past few years. Despite previously offering a dine-in service, co-owners, Erika and her husband John Chew swiftly moved to takeaway only, with the addition of a 10km delivery service. One of the biggest challenges they faced was finding a way to reach their customers outside... of the 5km radius. Being situated just off the Princes freeway on Aviation road in Laverton, most of their customers were travellers making their way to Avalon airport or down the coast towards Geelong and the Great Ocean Road. Changing to delivery also brought about its own challenges. Cheeky Chewies suddenly had to source more takeaway containers but wanted them to be environmentally friendly and be able to support the style of food they were serving, such as soups and curries so they didn’t leak or spill in transit. Cheeky Chewies are participating in the Hobsons Bay Business has Heart Outdoors program, we helped them extend their trading footprint to welcome more customers for a new alfresco experience this summer! 02.01.2022 Our community is growing and changing and we need your feedback to plan for the future ! It's your LAST CHANCE to have your say Hobsons Bay is currently home to 96,000 residents. That’s forecast to increase to 112,000 between now and 2036! That means we will need additional homes for over 16,000 residents Which works out at roughly 443 new homes constructed each year! We’ve been doing lots of research to guide our planning. Using the Neighbourhood Cha...racter Study, Activity Centres Strategy and Housing Strategy, Council has mapped out the application of three new residential planning zones. They are: The Neighbourhood Residential Zone The General Residential Zone The Residential Growth Zone The new residential zones may impact a property you live in, work in, or own. To view an interactive map and have your say on the proposed changes, head to: https://participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/amendmentC131 before 23 December 2020.
