24.01.2022 The council officers recommended closing 2 of Altona's kindergartens early this year (in addition to the one they closed last year), and a report and recommendation about the future of Altona's kindergartens will be coming back to the public council meeting at 7pm, 12 September 2017. Please sign the petition and attend the meeting to show your support for our kindergartens.

24.01.2022 Please share this from former Mayor Tony Briffa's Facebook page: "The Hobsons Bay City Council (which I resigned from a few months ago) has announced it will increase rates by 5% and get a loan of over $7 million so that some councillors can expedite works in their own wards. Disgusting! Worse still, the council refuses to release details outlining how much money has been allocated to each suburb and each ward. This is because the councillors are too scared the information w...ill politically damage them. Suburbs like Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn, Laverton, Seabrook and Seaholme are being shafted. They are not getting their fair share of rate revenue and more funding is being given to the pet projects of the ruling councillor block - Sandra Wilson, Peter Hemphill, Colleen Gates and Carl Marsich and Angela Altair. I am frustrated with the inequity in funding between the three council wards. The 2013/14 capital works budget for the three wards speaks for itself: Cherry Lake Ward (Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn & Seaholme) $1.571 million Strand Ward (Williamstown, Newport and Spotswood) $8.037 million Wetlands Ward (Altona Meadows, Laverton and Seabrook) $1.109 million I should note two councillors - Paul Morgan and Jason Price - have refused to support this latest budget. At least 2 councillors are representing the community! If you oppose the budget, please write an email to the CEO - [email protected]" http://www.maribyrnong.starweekly.com.au//hobsons-bay-res/

24.01.2022 The Hobsons Bay Residents Association continues to oppose the sale of the former Altona West Primary School site to enable the future expansion of the Altona P-9 College to provide years 10, 11 and 12. The suburbs of Altona, Altona Meadows and Seaholme do not have a public high school providing years 10, 11 and 12 since the state government merged the Altona High School and Altona West Primary School some years ago. http://www.maribyrnong.starweekly.com.au//school-site-sal/

23.01.2022 Surely there has to be other priorities than doing this?? What do you think? https://www.facebook.com/Jan.A.A.J/posts/10208992584239211

21.01.2022 Are you interested in our shared pedestrian and cycling trails around Hobsons Bay? If you are, you should provide feedback to this consultation! This project is seeking input about how local residents use the existing trails and how they might be improved. We encourage people to fill out the online questionnaire and attend one of the drop-in sessions. Please see the attached Community Bulletin for more information or visit www.west-trails.com

20.01.2022 With the Hobsons Bay City Council's planned obscene rate increase and huge $7,000,000 + loan, this is what the Mayor and Councillors are hoping for....

19.01.2022 FYI - COMMUNITY... Can you guess which suburb this is?

18.01.2022 This is how the Mayor and Councillors are allocating funding across Hobsons Bay. Do you think this is equitable? We don't!

16.01.2022 The residents association is standing up against the proposed council budget. The council has already backed down on their planned levy to family day care workers, but we want them to reconsider their politically motivated $8 million loan and the way funds are distributed across the suburbs. Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn, Laverton, Seabrook and Seaholme are not getting their fair share! http://www.maribyrnong.starweekly.com.au//hobsons-bay-res/

16.01.2022 Not what anyone wanted to hear today

15.01.2022 The council's planned Mayoral Ball has been cancelled. It was too expensive for most people and comes on the back of other decisions to reduce funding for the Altona Beach Festival etc. http://briffa.org/mayoral-ball-flop

14.01.2022 Brooklyn Residents - Please attend these meetings to remain informed of work being done to address air quality issues in Brooklyn, and to keep the EPA, council and other stakeholders accountable. Residents have the opportunity to ask questions about specific concerns at these meetings.

13.01.2022 Local residents are welcome to join us for our Annual General Meeting on the evening of Thursday 17th October at the Altona RSL (Sargood St, Altona). The meeting starts at 7.30pm, but you are also welcome to join us for dinner at 6pm if you like - come along and get to meet us over a meal! You are also welcome to join the association and help make a difference in our community. The Hobsons Bay Residents Association was formed 10 years ago by a passionate group of local resi...dents to advocate on issues of importance to our community. We've successfully fought plans against inappropriate developments and made a real difference in our council. We've even saved a park from being sold off by the council! Two of our members have been elected to the council since we were formed, including former Mayor (and current councillor) Tony Briffa, and former Deputy Mayor John Hogg. Our current Convenor is Jason Price. Cr Tony Briffa and will also be joining us for dinner and the meeting, and will be happy to take questions and discuss local issues. 13.01.2022 FYI - Community...

12.01.2022 Here's a copy of HBRA's latest newsletter for Brooklyn and Altona North! Please share with any friends or neighbours in the area.

11.01.2022 Blue light disco in Point Cook!

10.01.2022 The Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek are a great local community group that have done lots of wonderful work along Kororoit Creek over the years. Please support them if you can. Kororoit Creek is definitely one of the hidden gems in Melbourne's west. Please share this with your facebook friends.

10.01.2022 The council is not telling the community lots of things - why they're taking out huge loans and increasing rates, how much funding they're allocating to each suburb, and now they're not telling us why they want to buy the former Laverton Primary School site for $2.3 million (only 5 years after selling prime real estate across the road from Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows for only $1.7 million). What are they hiding? http://www.maribyrnong.starweekly.com.au//hobsons-bay-res/

09.01.2022 AUSTRALIA DAY IN ALTONA - is going to be HUGE!! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=756726364340484&l=64bcae5751

09.01.2022 The Hobsons Bay Residents Association has just lodged its budget submission to the council opposing the rate increases, opposing the huge debt levels, raising issues with the way rates are inequitably distributed across the city, and opposing the new fees for Family Day Care Educators (amongst other things). If you would like to read a copy of our submission, please email [email protected]

08.01.2022 Can you help find Kym?

07.01.2022 We're so pleased we at least have one councillor willing to stand up for ratepayers. How dare the council even consider raising rates and getting such a large surplus at the time our community is suffering so much? The Hobsons Bay Residents Association is calling on the council to commit to not raising rates, to not reaping such a hugh surplus at this time, and to provide discounts to ratepayers (including residents, businesses and landlords) who have been financially affected by COVID-19. https://maribyrnonghobsonsbay.starweekly.com.au//rates-ri/

06.01.2022 The Council appears to have decided to stop delivering in-home support to elderly residents, so they will no longer directly provide any care to assist elderly people by providing them with someone to give them a shower, clean their bed, provide food or provide other sort of care. The council receives over $2 million dollars a year from the government to provide these important services but now they will be subcontracted to another provider who will want to deliver these ser...vices with cost savings and efficiencies in mind. This is likely to result in reduced hours and services to residents - if not now, it will happen. Shame Shame Shame!! Be very careful who you vote for. It could mean services you and your family rely on! https://www.willyandhobby.com.au//cut-above-the-rest-the-/

06.01.2022 Please support the Altona Miniature Railway by having fun at their Open Day!

05.01.2022 The Bendigo Bank are a great local bank that has provided over $1,000,000 to our community in grants over the last 10 years. Please support the bank that supports our community! https://www.facebook.com/BendigoBank http://williamstown.starcommunity.com.au//banking-renovat/

05.01.2022 Interesting information by HBRA former convenor Councillor Tony Briffa about inequity in the way council funds works across the city. http://briffa.org/altona-football-club
